Having stayed in a lot of local hotels in the Whitehaven and Cockermouth Area, in my experience and in my opinion, this is by far the best place to stay. Upon entering the hotel I received a very warm welcome and I was shown to a very well presented, clean and well maintained room which looks to be recently decorated too. A warm welcome in the bar and the food was delicious Breakfast is amazing and fantastic views. I still have a further night to stay but I feel comfortable enough to leave my review and book for my next stay too. Thank you!

Food was gorgeous and great service the only reason I didn't give five stars was the portion size of my chicken, but I must give a special mention about the lovely white wine sauce that came with it 👌 beautiful

Lovely room, good view. Great location for visiting nearby lakes and ideal for walking. Although we had rain, it looked beautiful. As we arrived late, the restaurant was closed. Good breakfast, just a bit disappointed with my egg being slightly over cooked.

Stayed Christmas night. Christmas dinner was excellent staff very efficient and helpful. Room was very comfortable and clean couldn’t wish for a better place to spend Christmas Day and night. Breakfast was very good plenty of choices. Phil and his team went out of their way to make mine and Edwards stay enjoyable.

Had a reservation for lunch. Blue badge parking right outside the door. Beautiful old building but level entry at the front for wheelchair. Helpful staff. Lovely light dining room with doors opening onto the gardens. Good lunch menu with choices for large and smaller appetites. Service good and food delicious. Will definitely revisit.

Our daughter got married here this year and had the buffet and night do as well, several guest parties also stopped overnight, and overall couldn't fault the experience, the staff were friendly and attentive but without being full on, the buffet was great as was the full English breakfast in the morning (appreciated by some of the more hungover). The hotel itself is a lovely old building extensively renovated and added to with rooms for functions but without losing it's charm and appeal and the views down the Lorton valley are stunning. The bedrooms are ok and certainly the room we we're in had a large bathroom with bath and integrated shower. If I had a gripe and it's only a small one is that the upstairs rooms don't have a lift for access so if you have mobility issues this could be a problem but they do have ground floor rooms in external buildings, but overall a very nice country hotel definitely recommend it if you want easy access to the western lakes

Traditional style hotel. Went for a bar meal and sat outside for a drink first. Beautiful well kept surroundings with views of the mountains to the east. Wide selection of gins. The delicious mains were quite traditional and well presented. Would recommend this ‘off the beaten track’ hotel for a bar meal.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. We had a room with a balcony looking over the valley. It was stunning waking up to the horses and sheep outside the window. Food was fantastic and staff were knowledgeable when it came to gluten free options, offering lots of choice. The room was gorgeous and spotlessly clean and the bathroom was stunning with a great power rain shower. I would definitely recommend a stay. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Will be booking again for next year.
