We visited today for Sunday lunch. A lovely varied menu, friendly, attentive service and beautiful food - such an improvement on the previous owner. I was apprehensive as to whether portions would be small but we were all stuffed full and never could have managed the 3 courses! The staff were very helpful and served our daughter's meal with the starters, and what a lovely treat for her to be able to have a dish from the menu rather than a boring children's menu . Look forward to returning soon.

We visited the beautiful Five Bells Inn on a sunny Saturday afternoon and we loved everything about it. From the beautiful garden, through speciality menu to hospitality of the owners James and Charlie, the experience we had was exceptional. We’ve found out that all the ingredients are sourced locally and that the menu changes daily, depending on what is currently available in the local area. Between the 4 of us, we tasted asparagus, salmon, lemon sole, hake, lamb and a vegan special - all really tasty and very fresh! If you’re in the area, I highly recommend that you pay this brilliant country pub a visit!

My girlfriend and I were visiting the area on holiday and everyone said this was the place to go. It did not disappoint. The staff were great fun and could not have been more friendly and welcoming, the food was cooked to perfection! And what we both liked and appreciated the most was the fact that all of the food was locally sourced and they listed exactly where it was from. For us this was the cherry on top of an amazing pub. We will 100% be returning to both the area and the pub. Thank you to all of you for making our last evening so terrific, really made our holiday!

Excellent meal at The Five Bells last night. Highlights were delicious British asparagus served with white bean hummus, hazelnut and spring onion pesto followed by hay smoked loin of Dartmoor lamb with nettle gnocchi. Just sublime. A lemon posset with beautifully sharp berry compote and darling little button shaped shortbread biscuits and a chocolate torte with caramel marscapone and a praline ice cream just about finished us off! Stunning Montepulciano wine. Great service by James and his colleague. Chic decor sensitive to the old building and subtle relaxing music made for a lovely, refined evening out. We shall be recommending to guests at our holiday cottages and glamping site Halsbeer Farm and Blackdown Yurts just 20 minutes away from this fantastic pub/restaurant.

Thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner at this gorgeous pub this weekend :D My lamb was amazing and the accompaniements were delicious and well chosen. My husband particularly enjoyed his asparagus and hummous starter and my favourite bit was the white chocolate parfait I had for dessert. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be back.

We called in for a spur of the moment lunch yesterday at 13:50 half expecting them to have finished serving. But James and his team were very accommodating. Even though there wasn't anything vegan on the menu, James spoke to the chef who immediately came up with 5 different options. Absolutely delicious! Looking forward to seeing vegan dishes on the main menu, which is happening soon .... Thank you James ... This will definitely become one of our regular places to eat!

We (Jack, Paddington the border terrier and I) decided to try out the new menu at The Five Bellls. We’ve not been there since the new owners took over at the end of last year and I genuinely don’t think I could fault anything. The food was amazing - the crispy hen’s egg stood out for me in particular - the service was faultless, lovely atmosphere and venue as stunning as ever. Well done to all the team there - a winning combination!

I'm not a vegan but I thought I would try the Salted Carrots with Lentils and it was incredible. Packed full if flavour and texture. As reward for my virtuous behaviour I opted for a big fat serving of Honeycomb Cheesecake and I certainly wasn't disappointed their. All the sins and all the flavour. Lovely setting too with beautiful gardens and fine selection of ales and wines. I was driving so opted for water and really good coffee.

We were inspired to come here after seeing their head chef Charlotte on "Great British Menu" as her food looked lovely. The inn is cosy inside but you can also eat in their lovely garden, with beautiful views of open countryside. To get here you have to drive through several very narrow & windy country lanes with only a few passing places so you need to go along cautiously. Once you eventually reach the inn, they have a nice spacious car park. We went for Sunday lunch & there is a set menu which costs £28 for 2 courses or £35 for 3. I recommend the puddings especially as ours were both lovely. They offer a wide selection of locally produced soft drinks & an extensive wine list. They use milk from a nearby local farm in their cooking & hot beverages. All of the staff were very friendly & attentive.

Went here on a week night and as soon as we walked in there was a lovely cosy feel to the restaurant, first we were seated by a fireplace with comfy chairs and we're offered drinks and menus. The staff were all very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. When shown to our table we were presented with some fresh bread and balsamic vinagar before our first Course, the food was absolutely delicious, from the presentation to the flavours coming through each dish. Would definitely recommend visiting here, and hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Lovely atmosphere in this country pub. They got a new chef 6 weeks ago and the food was fantastic. Celeriac starter had delicious flavours. Lamb and pork main were fabulous, the sauces were particularly nice. The burger was also really good and had a tasty but not over powering sauce. Decent chips too. Pictures don't do it justice and ate the other bits before remembering to take a pic! Would definitely recommend.
