We went to the Freemasons Arms on Sunday 17th, there were ten of us in total for our family fake Christmas lunch. The whole experience from start to finish was superb. Not one out of our ten had a problem with anything. I personally had the beef which was cooked to perfection. Thus place us an absolute must try...
Fantastic night with great friends had the 7 course taste menu would highly recommend the restaurant & menu to anyone thanks to a fantastic chef & staff will see you all soon 5 stars ✨
First time at the Freemason's and we will be back soon.
We had the 'Simple' Sunday Dinner which was fabulous, there was nothing on the short menu that didn't sound good so we each choose something different. Unfortunatly, little sharing went on as the food was so good!
They have a very goid wine list and the rose cava we picked was out of this world.
Amazing food! I savoured every mouthful....I didn't want it to end. Rabbit and langoustine starter was heaven and the fillet steak was the best steak I've ever had!
Enjoyed the AA menu very much. Fantastic food especially the salted caramel custard tart- worth the trip on its own. Lovely place, nice service. Decent beer too.
Unreal dining experience! We had the taste of the freemasons menu. Food A1 and i loved all the little touches and theatre with the meal. The chef bringing your food and explaining the dish and the produce used to make it was an excellent touch. Will be back!!
I visited the Freemasons last night for the first time and it was 'Chippy tea'. Never tasted a dab so fab!! Then my fish and chips, as good as the chips were I had to finish my whale of a fish, the batter just crunched and melted along with the beautiful white haddock. Where do I start with my pudding, Devine.. Thankyou Steven and team your hospitality was fantastic and those chocolates well..... scrumptious. xx
We had a lovely meal in a fb setting . Good food served by friendly staff... well worth a visit
Great menu of beatifully prepared food in lovely surroundings. Enjoyed a 4 hour lunch of plaice followed by the Amalfi lemon meringue, both superb. It was our first visit and we would happily return.
Wow! We have eaten here a number of times and came yesterday evening for my partner's birthday. The food was unreal! My partner was the first person to try a new starter they had just put onto the menu and it was excellent.
The food and service was great and will definitely be eating here again
Delicious lunch yesterday. Would especially recommend the lemon meringue pie. 😋
Freemasons at Wiswell is the no.1 ranked pub in the Good Food Guide's Top 50 UK pubs 2015. It is also ranked 41st in the Top 50 Good Food Guide. The surrounding area is a haven for good food in the North West with the likes of Northcote and Parkers Arms for company. The pub is set in the quiet village of Wiswell and parking can be found along the tight roads outside residential houses. The food was presented exquisitely with well matched flavours and excellent cooking. We can see why the venue has amassed such accolades and the pictures below speak for themselves.
The Freemasons at Wiswell ticks all the boxes of somewhere I would love - hidden away in a small village within the Ribble Valley, serving local produce and highly recommended.
The pub has been recognised as a great food destination and was named the 'Top Pub in the UK' by The Good Food Guide.
Like a brick to the face. In some restaurants and the food dances around your pallet like a symphony flavour with all the subtle little combinations coming together to make a wondrous dining experience, In other restaurants it’s like being hit in the face with a brick of flavour, Freemasons definitely falls into the brick in the face category.
Do not be mistaken in thinking food is bad, it is in fact the food is quite the opposite but with it being both pub and a restaurant you should go there with the expectation of strong bold flavours that will enlighten your pallet even if you order a pint of bitter.
My most recent trip to Freemasons was 01/04/2013 but I will confess I have attended this restaurant probably 10 times in the last 2 years and it is a favourite of mine.
The menu at Freemasons is a 3/3/3 so, 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 deserts now the menu changes pretty much weekly so if you don’t like it then don’t worry there will be a new menu next week, if you are a vegetarian Freemasons does not cater for you, even if you are one of those PESKY’tarians who eat fish it comes with duck fat chips and all other unhealthy loveliness so probably best you stay away.
Now onto my meal
To start I ordered the Munster Crab which slapped my around the face with fishy crabby amazing’ness, the fennel and apple puree offer a sweet and crunchy contrast in both flavour and texture making it a amazing starter. My parter ordered the pea soup with smoked haddock cream again the flavours were amazing with pieces of haddock in the soup some sort of haddock rice crispy on top to add texture.
For main we both ordered roast beef and when it came it looked fantastic with a little pot of cauliflower cheese came for the side. The flavours in the sauce were unreal it had power and punch everything on the plate was perfect.
My only slight complaint if I was being critical would be, I think the beef was cooked in a water bath and while that gives you perfectly cooked pink meat, the flavours you can impart using other methods sometimes makes for a more intense flavour.
This however is the only thing I can pick on about the food, everything else from the mash, the Yorkshire, the parsnip, THE ROAST POTATOS IN DUCK FAT, everything was cooked perfectly and that incredible sauce made sure everything combined perfectly on the fork no matter what you decided to have a taste of.
WARNING: The horseradish sauce could launch a rocket into outer space be careful, but get it as it is amazing.
For desert I ordered the Chocolate Pave with hazelnut I cream which I thought I was onto a winner, rich chocolate nutty yet refreshing ice cream and popcorn (they don’t make it like that at the cinema) which was rich refreshing and light enough to end the meal.
I then made a mistake I tried my partners lemon tart with pistachio I cream, I think I will carry this food envy with me to the grave. The tart had a brulee top to it for texture, so after the initial crunch you would get this smack of sharp lemon which you think it a little too strong but a milky ice cream taste mellows out the pallet and just as you think it’s finished this pistachio flavour coats your mouth in a nutty hug, My partners desert was one of the nicest things I have tasted in a long time and I only got one spoon full..
This is not the place for fussy eaters or vegetarians but if you like flavour this is without doubt the place for you. Finally whatever you do if you see the words lemon & tart on the menu order it, otherwise you will be living in a eternal state of food envy!
Bill with no alcohol was £60
A lovely half way house between good pub food and fine dining; Freemasons is a comfortable venue is a picturesque little village. The food was fantastic, as we're the staff.
The surroundings are amazing, the welcome is warm, the beers on offer were very good and if you like your wine, the list here will keep you entertained for a good while. Aside from the error the food is also incredible. Gorgeous to look at and delicious to taste. B has a bit of a fear of choking but if I can convince her, I’m sure we’ll be back.
Game Week 2013 at the Freemasons, Wiswell with guest chef Roger Jones of the Harrow at Little Bedwyn.
One glance at the menu and I tried to tweet a picture saying, "Yes, that is going to do very nicely." But the signal in Wiswell is too bad to do that.
Freemasons is a gastropub with serious ambition. Service is slick and dishes are well presented and cooked to a high standard.
A happy return to the Freemasons for our wedding anniversary. Beautifully prepared and presented dishes which were all absolutely delicious as well as excellent. Some of the entrées are ingenious!
Plus friendly and very professional service. The standard here is consistently excellent and we always leave feeling it was both a treat and great culinary experience to dine here. Our favourite eatery in the North West and we'll be back for the next special occasion. Highly recommended!
Be warned - parking can be a challenge in Wiswell.
So I didn't stop in the rooms it was a last minute decision to try the Tuesday Taster Menu. Mr B who suggested the outing has eaten at the Freemason a few times but it was my first visit, will I go back? Most definitely.
We were seated just before 7pm and were in for a treat the front of house staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Mr B was on alcohol free however I had a glass or two ( be rude not to).
The taster menu consists of 5 courses but we got a couple of treats before first course which were tasty. The menu was slightly different from the one listed but we weren't disappointed there were some excellent elements. Not to go though every dish my highlights were the Brioche it was served with a mint dip which was so fresh. The pork and peach combo was stroke of genius my only one criticism is the cauliflower puree, I know it's a trendy thing but I'm not six months old and I love vegetables after having grown up in farming and growing area. However that's just my personal opinion Mr B tucked in and enjoyed it.
The dessert was brilliant a deconstructed lemon meringue pie I loved it.
We had a wonderful evening, the front of house staff were very well informed about each course. So thanks to the chef and to kitchen brigade for a terrific Tuesday what a treat. Can't wait to go again.
Nice place in quaint village. Ambiance is good but slow service let's it down, too long between starter and main course. Food was tasty enough but the Yorkshire pudding was more like an Accrington brick. A bit pricy for red wine, £12.50 a glass. Happy we went but doubt we will return.
Wonderful stay... Lovely, comfortable room with large luxurious bathroom. But we were there for the food - the Taste of Freemasons was up there with the best tasting menu, from the snacks to the sweet treats and everything in between. The wine flight was also perfectly matched and generous. The chicken course was absolutely stunning... And then there was breakfast! Far too much but when it's chef-created it would be churlish to leave anything... A wonderful anniversary treat, completed by the exemplary service from all the staff.
Lovely, quiet and stylish room (Hare).
Delicious food on the tasting menu - some of the best (of many) that we have eaten.
The service was a bit odd, though: we were booked in to eat at 6 30, advised on the website to go down half an hour earlier for a drink, but the pre - dinner snacks didn't arrive until 7 15, by which time the G and Ts were long gone and we were starving!
Once the courses started arriving, each one seemed to follow rather too quickly after the last. All of which could easily be improved.
And I would still love to return. The food itself was a treat.
Second time here and did was absolutely amazing as usual. We also stayed in Mr Fox next door to the restaurant. Overall a wonderful stay with exceptional service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommended
Following morning we had their breakfast, what we thought was just going to be a full English is actually a five course event. Mate sure you are ready for an absolute feast if you stay over
Will be back for a Sunday dinner soon
Went for lunch yesterday and it was extremely good. Had the tasting menu and matched wines. Will be back soon
A stunning stay. Gorgeous room in a gorgeous village. The taster menu was simply fantastic with highlights the deconstructed lemon meringue and the duck. Great staff in unstuffy idyllic surroundings
Came for the lunch menu, which was delicious. The lamb fat brioche are so so good! Staff were lovely and the ambience friendly and casual gastro pub.

Didn't stay in the rooms but went there for Sunday lunch. The food was beautifully presented and delicious and of course the location is great too. Not cheap but recommended as a treat.
Best Sunday lunch around. Food and service is as amazing, vey relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely return
Lovely fish and chip supper. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere.
Booked Sunday lunch. It was a set course meal for £45 with a bonus pre-starter. Unfortunately I didn't realise this and I can never manage more than a starter and a small main so I was pretty much overfaced from the get go, totally my fault.
The food was simply amazing. Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. This isour kind of food. We will definitely return but on aday where I can choose how many courses.
This top gastro pub lived up to expectations. Brilliant food. We had the set menu. I'm vegetarian and was catered for without any problems.
Fantastic really enjoyed the food it was the best sunday roast i've ever had & the rooms were spot on highly recommended
Absolutely love this place !
The roast beef Sunday lunch is first class truly special
We can’t wait to return !
Exceptional food , service and ambiance. Friendly , knowledgeable staff , a great wine selection and a fabulous menu , beautifully crafted. It rightly deserves a place on every foodies list of places to visit .
Wonderful dining experience. Beautiful rooms. Excellent location. Staff excellent
We booked the New Year package (meal, room and breakfast).
We have eaten here before and, as ever, the meal was exceptional.
It's the first time we have stayed over and we booked the 'Mr Fox' room. it was one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in - spacious, beautifully furnished, large bathroom plus bath on the mezzanine floor.
Breakfast was superb, effectively 3 courses - a delight and rather than being a rushed experience, we enjoyed an hour of delicious food.
Staff are all really helpful.
Overall a 5 star experience.
