Lovely village pub B&B with the perfect balance of space for the bar and that allocated for dining. Cool artworks. Reasonable value. Prompt service. Food ordered was well prepared. One thing.... please don't interrupt to ask if everything is OK....if it wasn't I would have told you 🙂.

Travelled to the UK from Australia in June / July 2023 As part of our (wife and I) holiday, I wanted to stay in Chrishall as this is where my ancestors lived before they came out to South Australia way back in 1861, so we booked a room for 2 nights at the Red Cow. We drove up to Chrishall from London on a Sunday and arrived at the Red Cow about 3:00 PM to find the pub packed due to the Sunday roast lunch!! We booked in, dropped our suitcases off in our room and went back to the Red Cow and politely asked if we could order the roast ourselves, understanding that it was now 3:30 PM and the kitchen was probably closed. But this was not a problem as the Staff were only too happy for us to have our roast (which were excellent!) We then enjoyed a couple of drinks out in the beer garden on what was a great afternoon weather wise. They don't do dinner on Mondays but had a food van in the car park which served Mexican food which was of good quality. Again we had a few drinks in the beer garden with lots of other people around providing a good atmosphere. We stayed in the Drage room which was spotlessly clean and spacious. Unfortunately, we could only stay for 2 nights due to our timetable but I can say that this is a gem of a little pub & credit must go to the owners and friendly Staff for a welcoming 'vibe'. Would not hesitate to recommend staying here. If you do, make sure you visit Audley House in the small town of Saffron Walden (approx. 15 minutes from Chrishall) which is excellent.

The food was amazing, the service was top notch, but the wait was long, understanable as we came in late but it was worth the wait, with prices on the slightly higher side an expected quality of food was had, which was deffintly meet. The atmosphere was lovely with a pet friendly and lovlely staff base I would deffintly recommend this to anyone passing through as I'm sure it's already a local gem.

Excellent food and friendly service. We were camping nearby and ended up walking to this pub. The only reason why the review isn't 5 stars is because of the waiting times of the food while taking into account the near empty restaurant area at the time we were there. It could be because the kitchen has just opened, but regardless, afterwards, there was an additional waiting time for desserts that was longer than expected...

Loved this place, the rooms are modern. Bathroom super lots of good little extras that make the stay very comfortable. The dinner on both nights was great, and so was the breakfast. The staff are very attentive, good humour, a fun placecto stay. The only downside was no network coverage in this area.

I had the pleasure of staying at The Red Cow in Chrishall for two nights and I must say it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The room was spotlessly clean and modern, with all the amenities one could need. The food was delicious both at breakfast and dinner time, and the service was impeccable. The staff were friendly and attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly recommend The Red Cow to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in the Chrishall area. The combination of comfortable accommodations, delicious food, and excellent service make it a top choice for anyone seeking a high-quality experience. Thank you to the team at The Red Cow for making our stay so memorable!

Enjoyed a wonderful relaxing experience here, looked after well by Amelie and her fantastic team of welcoming staff at The Red Cow, throughout our stay, along with my sheep dogs. The accommodation is modern, tidy, clean and well presented, I cannot fault it. (Lots of safe easy parking next to pub too is convenient) The food is really tasty - wide selection of meals, the specials menu is delicious, puddings very seductive. Great selection of beers in cosy bar with authentic woodwork, interesting pictures of red cows, and proper real enticing fire, so friendly with mix of sociable locals and other guests to talk to if you want. Dog friendly in main bar, including treats, and lots of space, and super service, no waiting, friendly / professional staff looking after you always. Lots to do locally, including Norman flint made Churches, bridleways, walks, air museum at Duxford, etc. Thank you Red Cow, we will be returning to stay soon- for the yummy pheasant, pork, turkey, and sweet rice pudding, sticky toffee pud....full english cooked breakfasts, ace company, relaxing times X Nick X

What fantastic a fantastic country pub, the rooms that we had for our stay were above 5 star rating. Also we had the best fish and chips ever, however, that said the breakfast and the dinner menue was also exceptional. Lastly, the staff were friendly and attentive plus it was great to meet up with Amelie again. "Just a fabulous stay"

We can thoroughly recommend The Red Cow as both a pub for a meal or for a celebration. We, together with 13 friends and family plus a toddler, had the most marvellous celebration for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary at The Red Cow on Sunday, 28th August. Prior to the day Amelie was extremely helpful with regard to menus, wines, table decorations, etc. On the Sunday she and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure that everything went smoothly, glasses were filled, courses served without anyone having to ask or even noticing. Toby and his sous chef produced an absolutely delicious meal of 3 courses plus teas and coffees. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. This is the second celebration we have held at The Red Cow (we were guests at a third) in the last few years and we wouldn’t hesitate to hold another one there. Thank you all for making it so special for us, Lesley and Keith

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch with friends. Every course was a delight. The service and atmosphere spot on. The beer perfection. This is a pub at the top of its game. My admiration and thanks to the owners and staff.
