This restaurant gets better every time we visit, but tonight it was absolutely outstanding. From the moment one of our party turned up early (first in the restaurant) and was looked after wonderfully to the very friendly farewell this was a wonderful evening. The staff were extraordinarily nice and efficient and really made the visit. There were complimentary olives, bread and cheese straightaway and we were made to feel welcome from the start. [Sidebar: why don't more restaurants give customers little complimentary treats? They cost pennies and customers love them. They are also a talking point.] The food was superb. For starters, the chorizo, the prawns in feta cheese and tomato (I know but it works) and the calamari were all exceptionally good. The Greek kleftiko lamb was absolutely out of this world. Cooked for three hours and served with a delicious vegetable stew like a ratatouille it really was the stand out dish. Another member of our party had the steak in peppercorn sauce and welcomed the large portion and rich sauce. The brandy and Tia Maria coffees have a whole new meaning to the phrase "generous measures". The only less than impressive element was the "cheesecake of the day" which seemed to be external sourced and rather pedestrian. All of the dishes were presented beautifully and served piping hot. There is no doubt that the food now matches the service at Bistecca. This was a Wednesday evening at 6pm and in the subsequent hour the restaurant became busy but not crowded. The word is clearly getting out. It would be premature to say it is on a par with the magnificent Retreat Restaurant a few hundred yards up the road but it it is certainly heading in that direction. Bistecca can't compete with Retreat on setting or ambience (who can?) but it is most certainly now competing with them on the quality of the food on the plate. And in the end that's where it matters.

We've been here several times and every time has been amazing! The staff are friendly and attentive which creates a lovely atmosphere. The food is just enough and always tastes scrumptious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.
