Lovely atmospheric pub. Service was attentive while waitress Debs gave us time and space to catch up telling us to shout when we were ready. Debs- you were really helpful and mindful of our communication needs thank you! Chicken & Ham pie with veg and mash was nice... pastry maybe a bit too crispy - amazed I cut it without it flying off! I asked for more gravy and a small jug was quickly delivered. Seafood grill was very highly rated- they said "one of the best I've had in a pub... worth every penny" Ham egg and chips was enjoyed as was the Risotto. Reasonable value for a meal. Quaint atmospheric pub with lots of interesting nooks, and historical features, spacious with outside dining areas too. Areas suitable for wheelchairs. We will return - thankyou for a lovely lunch!

Lovely little find on a bike ride along the canal from Wigan. Superb, fast, and friendly service. Beautiful setting and the food and drinks were great. Will definitely be returning for a longer evening at this lovely pub.

My dad recommended this place to me we went for my birthday family meal yesterday. The staff were extremely welcoming and the manager did everything in her power to have the 12 of us sat as close together as physically possible. This was greatly appreciated. The dedicated member of staff was literally there every single time someone needed a drink or anything else she was brilliant. The food came out extremely quick for 12 people. It was absolutely delicious. Thank you for making my birthday that extra special. Thank you to you all. Highly recommended and will return.

Upon arriving the fireplaces were lit and there was such a warm inviting atmosphere, there are dogs allowed here so I immediately got to stroke a puppy so... Day made! Haha I was seated within a minute of entering. The food was delicious and well presented I especially loved the desserts and the staff were efficient and polite. Would recommend to anyone! Topped it off with a lovely cappuccino too!

Food was utterly delicious. Couldn't fault it. Beef cheeks were totally gorgeous and my gammon with coke & whisky sauce was utterly YUM with chips cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef. Service really quick and friendly. Bar area only is dog friendly. Doggy treats and water readily available. Rubbish auto booking service - don't use! Managed to get a table as we were driving up north to Lancaster even though we'd tried to arrange to book by telephone via an automated system and they didn’t have a record of our booking or the message my husband had to leave. The manager and a member of staff kindly squeezed us in (with the dog) even though they'd just officially shut the kitchen (8pm on a Thurs - last orders 🍺🥂10pm). Really busy and bustling place even mid-week! Very cosy (but incredibly noisy due to a particular group of rowdy people who were walking to and from the restaurant to the bar area over and over again, getting more and more intoxicated and apparently upsetting the lovely staff, too. One of them almost poured his drink over my husband's coat as he walked/staggered past!) The manager apologised and asked if we wanted to move but we weren't staying long at all so it didn't bother us - but we did struggle to make each other heard, they were that loud! It was really kind of her, we were really grateful. The staff were really attentive but obviously harassed by this group and managed to keep their cool. Well done! I hope you at least got a big tip and they all left quietly (eventually!). Thank you for having us. We'll definitely come again x

We booked for a family 60th birthday meal. On arrival the table was decorated along with a card which was a lovely touch. Our waitress Mariangela was faultless, very friendly and helpful. Everyone’s food was amazing and we all had a great time. We’ve been here before and the food is always excellent. Thank you for making it a great birthday meal.

Lovely afternoon in the Malthouse, setting is lovely, decor is great lots of nice lighting. The food was excellent and served quickly. The sea food grill was lovely, and the gammon was. My only issue was the price of drinks Birra Moretti £6.25 plus a shandy from the same beer charged at the same price! Felt like London prices and I paid £6 in the centre of London only 2 weeks ago!

A lovely find of a pub! They managed to seat me last minute for a spot of light lunch despite having several bookings, it's a popular pub with the locals and for good reason. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced for the quality and serving size. The food is freshly prepared, and the chefs clearly take pride in their food as the presentation was good too. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and somewhat relaxed which I like. The outdoor seating by the canal is lovely in the hot weather and perfect for sipping an ice cold drink with lunch. Overall, a great atmosphere, great food and great staff. A great find, and if I'm the area again I will definitely be visiting again.

Really nice place with a lovely ambience, service was great, our waiter Jensen was fantastic. Potatoes were a little bit dry, and could've done with a bit more gravy, but these are minor quibbles and we'd definitely come again. Would recommend!

Great food in a beautiful location, great in the summer with a beer garden right by the canal. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend, especially the Sunday lunch.

Seriously picturesque. Never been before. Beautifully quiet location 2 mins from Junction 8 M61. Outside seating areas were 'taped off' which was a shame as we wanted to sit outside however...very nice inside, Sunday lunch time & was busy (should've reserved) but we managed to get in. Myself & Mrs P both went for the 28 day Sirloin with dressed courgette & Rocket salad, chips with sides of sautèd mushrooms & onion rings...washed down with draught Peroni. Delicious meals although the salad wasn't my first choice but still tasty. Steaks were 'bob on' tender, juicy & full of flavour (well worth the price). Service was quick, waitress was very attentive & overall a great visit. Highly recommended & definitely worth both 5 ***** & a return visit. 👌

This is a really cool place on the banks of the river. It was our first time here, and I have to say I was impressed. The staff are friendly and helpful, always smiling, and nothing seemed too much trouble. You know when you go somewhere for a meal and it just is right the place the staff the food and the alcohol well this is that place. We will be back. There's just something special here.

Delicious lunch. I chose the vegan flat bread and my husband had the steak baguette. I was asked if I was vegan (which I’m not), but I was given the option of how I wanted my chips cooked. Malthouse farm never disappoints the food is always spot on 😋👍

First visit at lunchtime today enjoyed the experience so have booked again. I was taken back when I saw my bill that 2 halves of lemonade were £6.60. Food was good value consider today's costs but not the drinks and there is no tax on lemonade. Looking forward to next visit.

We visited for our Anniversary, The pub was busy due to the weather being sunny but this did not hamper the service whatsoever. Nice to see all ages enjoying the pub, from Children to adults (even dogs). Food service was prompt and the food quality was amazing. The staff were very friendly too.

Just here for a drink. Enjoying a glass of NZ sav in the sun. Lovely breeze and overlooking the canal. We would have felt more welcomed if the signage had pointed drinks only customers to the drinks only area rather than making us wait in a queue with eating customers to be turned around to drinks only area. Just one or two well placed signs to save waiting would be very helpful for first impressions and save time for your staff as well.
