Stopped here after walking from Enfield Lock. Thought I was going to have to have crisps or jacket potato as a lot of places don't cater for vegans. Was very Impressed with selection and settled for the falafel wrap. Was excellent and worth every penny. Well done and thank you. Would certainly eat here again

Lovely little place to have a meal or just a drink whilst out walking across Chingford plains or pop in when in Epping. Food is delicious and the staff are always lovely and very helpful.

Set in the middle of the forest, perfect place on a sunny day to sit outside and enjoy food. The staff were really polite and helpful. Food was tasty. The coffee was not up to our taste. But overall an excellent venue with reasonable prices.

Good place to stop for a drink & snack after a short walk around Connaught Water or a longer walk through Epping Forest. Situated next to Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge & the Epping Forest Information Centre. The coffee is good as are the cakes. It can be quite pricey but for the location a valuable & worthwhile cafe. Indoor seating is provided up & downstairs as well as a good amount of seating outside at the front & back. A large water fountain at the rear provides drinking water for pets & bottle top-up. There is paid parking opposite & two free of charge spaces directly behind the Butlers Retreat for Blue Badge holders making it a good place to start/finish a circular walk through the Forest.

I'm quite happy to hope on a train for an hour just to have a late breakfast or light lunch at the Butlers Retreat. The food is reasonably priced and of good quality. Plenty of outside seating with good views of the forest. Lots of well marked dry paths to explore nearby as well as a hunting lodge and art exhibitions in the visitor's centre. Little gem of a place and we'll worth a visit.

Great place for a coffee and a snack! Sausage in a ciabatta was lovely, with a pot of tea. They serve all the usual coffees and drinks as well. The soups looked good, as did the breakfasts. If the weather is good, then sit on the picnic tables out the back and enjoy the views across Epping Forest. Plenty of seating inside, and lovely small function room upstairs, bookable for groups up to 35 I think? Anyway, enjoy the nearby woods and Chingford Plain, and then a coffee or two at Butler's.
