Excellent experience at Salt and Malt, even if they were extremely busy Sunday lunchtime. We had to queue and wait to be seated, but once seated were very impressed by the beautiful decor and stunning lake views. They run "order at the bar" system so everything was quick, we didn't need to wait long for drinks or food to be delivered to us. We aren't fish and chips eaters, but we ordered a burger meal and mussels. These were amazing, no surprise why so many people eat mussels there. Compliments to the chef! My burger was top class, perfect! We tried the cooked deserts, these were delicious too!
The staff were very helpful and friendly despite the busy time. Nice clean large toilets, large outdoor seating area. We had a superb experience in the restaurant and will recommend you to everyone! Thanks a lot!
I visited the place by the lake with my partner and friends yesterday and we all were very impressed. We had the traditional battered fish and chips and it was exceptional! Lovely juicy fish, crispy, not greasy batter, light tasty chips, lovely curry sauce and mushy peas. Very friendly and helpful staff as well. The only little downside is that it can get a bit noisy when the place is full of people, and the toilets were slightly "sticky", but nothing to worry about. Will be definitely coming back, well done!
We’ve been several times, yesterday I had my Father with me who is disabled and rather frail. The staff were amazing. The food is if the highest quality, the staff can’t do enough to make your visit the best possible experience. My father couldn’t stop praising the Salt & Malt.
Beautiful setting (Chew Lake) and excellent quality fish and chips. We really enjoyed it and will be back ASAP. The fish was very fresh and amazing batter, oh and don’t get us started on the curry sauce .... yum yum.

Went to chew valley salt and malt and it was lovely. Clean, friendly helpful staff and lovely cooked fish and chips for both adults and children. Also a great view of the lake and a playground.
Boxing day lunch 2017. We had booked, and although we were shown to a table immediately, as we sat down a waitress cleared a lake view table and came over and offered it to us!
The food came quickly and the front of house staff looked after us really well.
I had the Beef and Mushroom stew. what can I say? Never tasted a stew so good!!
Honestly if every batch of stew is that good, well lets just say I want the receipe!
Chew lake.
Visited several times & never been disappointed. First class setting, service & most importantly food. Would highly recommend.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting, lovely staff and ceoliac friendly menu! #heaven
Lovely place . Came over today with my 3 and 4 year old ( just for a coffee and an ice cream ) staff were really friendly , and welcoming to my children will be back soon
Exellent service, atmosphere and food. Very relaxed and great view of sun setting over the lake.
Really loved our Sunday lunch here. We reserved and were given a window table :)
Food was gorgeous, and there were no issues ordering extras, like peas. Cod was very tasty, light and flaked, batter was crisp and not oily at all. Lived the peas, half were mashed and then mixed with whole peas with some butter, very fresh tasting.
Half of our party was late, but they were very accommodating. Table water automatically served as well :)
Up on entry we were greeted with a smile and welcome very friendly. The service we received was very good. The food was good. The atmosphere at the time of our visit was very quiet there were only 6 other people in the restaurant, more people were seated outside.
Fish and chips freshly cooked to order. Specials board, cake and great coffee too. Outdoor seating available. Access good, toilet facilities good. Clean!
Really nice location, pretty pricey for a coffee and cake, parking is free. Little spot to walk along the lake. Friendly staff.
Had a nice selection of fish and chips. I tried the fish cake and chips. It was ok but nothing special. The chips were undercooked and fish cake could have come from a supermarket. The steamed mussels chosen by a fellow diner looked a better choice.
A great stop off for fish and chips. Unpretentious and friendly, and has a good menu if you don’t just want fish and chips. Lovely location too
Upon the entry, warm welcomed by a bunch of young customer services.
Great tasty FishNChips and Hamburger.
I particular love the Chocolate cake.
A short walk along the reservoir is always nice. Happy experience. Highly recommended.
Cheers.
My wife and I have been here quite a few times now as it's the half-way point of a long bike ride we enjoy. The chips are amazing, but quite expensive and the portions pretty small. The coffee is good and they kindly filled our water bottles for us. If it's not too busy, I'd recommend it as a stop off you're in the area. Beautiful view of the lake and several nice walks nearby.

As soon as I stepped in we were greeted with some of the best customer service I've experienced anywhere! Everyone was super attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and plentiful (as you can see from the picture). Not a lot of veggie options, but what we did have was great! Lovely restaurant that I look forward to going to again!
Outstanding place : beautiful views, super lovely and helpful staff with great atmosphere. Great choice of background music at an unobtrusive volume and the food is hot, fresh and tastes gorgeous, (peas were standout and tartare sauce tasted homemade). The Salt'n'Malt just gets better with every visit 😊
Pre booked and ordered as we were a large group of circa 36. My haddock was a little over cooked for my liking but others from the party said their choices were fine.
Air conditioning works well and probably a tad too cool. The hard furnishings and the size of our group meant the volume was loud and difficult to hear but that’s no fault of the venue.
The venue set aside some reserved parking which was much appreciated. Definitely worth a visit

We booked in for Lunch on a Sunday.
The view is definitely very special, and the sky is full of seagulls and the grass full of cute ducks.
The food was definitely tasty and arrived pretty quick. Most of the staff were kind too.
One extremely weird and awkward thing that happened is that we asked for the Wifi password while our food was being prepared (the data signal there is poor) and the waitress replied “I don’t know” and walked off… that was that. Did she come back with the password? Definitely not…
We had to ask another waitress ourselves, and funny enough it was the easiest password anyway… so weird!
We had a delicious lunch here with perfect, golden chips. The staff really make the place - they are so friendly and welcoming and were all lovely with our 10 month old granddaughter. We would highly recommend and will certainly be back.
Didn’t disappoint…Been there a few times over the years and a favourite with my parents. The food is very good and service efficient and friendly.
Always a great atmosphere and always popular. You need to book, especially weekends and school holidays.
As an aside, great location for walks and for children to run free.
Fantastic, love coming here, food is fresh and delicious, staff always friendly and what a perfect location. To save disappointment, remember to book. Very popular 👌
Unpretentious food, lovely view and very polite, friendly and accommodating staff whilst the place was very busy. Managed to move us inside as soon as a table got cleared and actually cared about delivering a very good service.
There is hope: service is not dead in this country. Thank you!
