This (as I told the owners), was the best meal out we had had for YEARS! Even though I had a main which had no meat, it was PACKED with delicious flavour. My wife loved her meal too. The wines they had on the menu, were fantastic and paired perfectly with the food. The waiting staff were SO pleasant and attentive. We asked for tap water and they kept topping us up if we finished a glass. The food, the wine and the staff were all perfect. I said this to the owner, and he just said "its simple food". When they explained the day's special, he explained all the ingredients in it which I have never had before. We left absolutely elated. I felt quite overwhelmed how good an experience it had been and how having a meal could do that to you! They really did go the extra mile. It was nice seeing how proud the owner and his son were to work there. Great value for money. I hope people reading this will go and have as good experience as we did. The owners should be proud of what they have created here.

Amazing location. I sat outside with a wonderful view of the Tudor buildings and the people down below, but with privacy and peace. Sam was brilliant, clearly passionate about food and drink, and Italian food and drink in particular. The wine was delightful, the pasta and chicken sublime. The price was frankly ridiculously cheap so I tipped well. Highly recommended

Turned up spontaneously on a busy Saturday night and the chef/owner could not be more accommodating for us. We wanted to sit outside but there were no free tables but within minutes a table appeared, we were so grateful. We ordered a table full of starters and every bite was delicious 😀

Went there for lunch on a Friday. It was quiet, and I got a seat outside where I got good views of the street below. The restaurant was run by father and son, and both attended to the guests very well. I got 2 course lunch meal, with carbonara as starter and sea bass fillet as main. The carbonara was creamy and cheezy, made the authentic way from egg yolks and no cream! They used pork cheeks instead of bacon, which was gave the perfect crunch to the pasta. The sea bass was a thin fillet, a bit crispy from the skin and soft inside from the meat. Deliciuous! The meal ended with a cup of cappucino. All these for £16.45 (including service fee). Highly recommend!

The only slight comment to make is that the place lacked atmosphere! Some lovely big pictures of Rome landmarks and Tuscany countryside on the walls would make a lot of difference! The staff were friendly and attentive and food is authentic, with perfect wine to partner it! Well worth a visit.

The best Italian meal we have had for a long time. The food was gorgeous and the staff were so attentive and friendly. Nice family run business and very well priced. The salmon was gorgeous. I would highly recommend.

It was the full Italian experience, we only stopped for a coffee and we were treated to an historic tour of the building and were treated like special relatives. We came back that evening and it just got better, it was an eating experience. We bought friends with us and again treated like their best and only clients yet they were understandably busy. We have eaten in a lot locations in many countries this was in the top five, we were made to feel like family, don’t miss a visit.

Excellent, delicious food. The service was outstanding, very friendly staff. The pasta was as good as any we have had in Italy, the tiramisu is probably the best I have ever had. We were with our Italian friend who confirmed the food was very authentic. The venue itself has a very nice feel and is spacious. The bathroom had proper baby-changing facilities which will be great for families - this is something other restaurants should aim for! I highly recommend this restaurant! We will definitely be going back!

Sorry to the hosts, my wife and I visited on 22/09, my wife's birthday, so a bit late with the review. Absolutely spot on, we could rave about it. I didn't mention it was a birthday meal, sorry now, the guys were so great, food and wine great, service great. Can't wait to return. Grazie.

Our dinner at Carbonara at No 49 was superb from start to finish. The service was warm and professional and made us feel like we were dining with friends. This family run restaurant goes out of their way to help you select the perfect meal and were very accommodating to my husband and I sharing our 4 courses. Don't miss the salmon or the tiramisu. The burrata will convince you that you must actually be in Italy! The cabernet by the glass was of a quality well above normal “per glass” offerings. We will definitely be back. I give it the highest of recommendations.

Drop everything you are doing and come here to have a wonderful Italian meal experience. Best salmon we have ever had! Carbonara was superb as was the tiramisu and the caprese con pesto Romano starter. This a Family run operation with care taken in all operations and excellent value. You will not be disappointed!

Lovely little restaurant, i would book a head as there isn't many tables. The service we got initially from the young lad who was waiting on us was fab. The food came out promptly and was delicious. We both had the cabonara which was a traditional recipe. Everything was perfect until the end when a group of loud lads came in, they seemed to be mates with the young waiter who had been serving us . They sat at the bar. When i walked past to go to the toilet a couple of them made inappropriate comments towards me. The waiter was sat with them at the bar and did not correct their behaviour. This ruined the experience for me i'm afraid and unfortunately lost them their tip.

The best Italian in Chester! The food is absolutely amazing, authentic dishes from Rome and beyond. Ask for the honey & chilli with your Pecorino Romano!
