Been here a few times now and always had a good experience. The platters are great if you like a good mix, but beware that the portions are pretty sizeable. Good selection too at the bar.

Hickory' Smokehouse is authentic American BBQ restaurant by the river in the historic city of Chester. Staff is helpfull and friendly. Sitting outside with a river view is amazing. Awesome. We went to Hickory’s on the 1st of March 2013 as my boyfriend had been once before and I have to say I absolutely loved it. We had Burnt Bits and Hot Links to start (shared) and had the platter between us to share for a main. We also ordered copious amounts of cocktails, all freshly made. We were bought water and popcorn as we sat down, this was a lovely touch. We had a private booth type table out of the way which I think made it as there were many tables in that night. I will definitely be going again and would highly recommend the food, drink and service.
Fantastic. What more can i say? Two hungry Geordies rolled up on Paddy's day and it was packed. Told a 30min wait, start a tab at the bar. Few Amstel's later and we are directed to our table. From where we were in the bar we could see the open kitchen and were drooling at the goodies lovingly churned out from there. Starter, we decided we wanted to try the nachos, at £9.50 they aint cheap, but i have to say tgey were fantastic, possibly the best ive had. Always a good sign when you realise they didnt use doritos. The chilli on top was perfect too. Main, keeping with the sharing theme we went for the platter, at £28 it sounded good. I would describe everything individually, but im knackered from the feast. Needless to say we didnt need the nachos and we couldnt finish it off! Staff are very friendly, service is quick, couldnt fault it really. We will be back before we have to leave for home!
Hickory's has a really friendly atmosphere, and has maintained a cosy feel despite the size of the restaurant. I can imagine that it's even better in nice weather, as the location is surely one of the best in the city.

Very American, which was good, as the food was entirely that. Bit noisy, as lots of kids, but it fitted the atmosphere. Food excellent, some better than others. Brisket superb, great fajitas and burgers, pulled pork was mixed in with beans, which wasn't so nice.
Great selection of food, friendly staff & very fast service too.
All the food that we had was cooked perfectly & all for a good price too.
Highly recommend to anyone that loves barbecue style food.
Love the Hickory Pale ale that’s brewed for this restaurant. It’s the perfect balance of malty & hoppy, with notes of caramel.
Friendly service. Great fries. Pretty good pulled pork served with beans and nice crispy pickles. Lovely spot to sit outside on their terrace with a view of the River Dee with an eclectic assortment of music playing, including American country.
Incredibly fantastic especially service and also food was amazing. The meal for 2 of us, we ordered full rack rib which was tender and the staff recommended me about selecting half flavours. So, I could have 2 combination of flavours, herb and spicy. He let me taste a selection of sauces which was fantastic from light spicy to the hottest. I loved the vibes too as it was next to the River Dee. I really appreciated the food and service.
This place is very famous, so there is always a line on the street to enter here. Therefore, it is better to book a table online. We were here for the first time. I looked for this place based on reviews. We wanted to taste delicious meat, salads and delicious beer. And we succeeded. Here they cook deliciously and serve quickly. This portion is for two. that in the photo with different types of meat was quite large (£55). It will be enough for 3, and maybe 4. The salad portion (£11.75) was enough for 2. A very tasty draft beer with a hint of citrus (£5.50). We were sitting at a table in the courtyard. I recommend this establishment for families, couples and groups of friends. We spent £170 here for 4 adults and 3 children, but we also took a lot of meat with us that we couldn't eat in the restaurant.
Hickory’s was recommended to the wife by a facebook group shes part of. We had the in-laws in from the US and thought we’d come here for a quick dinner.
Servers were lovely and managed to squeeze us in even though everything was booked. The food was brilliant. We definitely want to come back and take our time to enjoy some more food
This place is amazing, genuinely couldn’t fault one thing about it! Love the cinema for the kids, popcorn and water on the table is a nice touch, food is outstanding, friendly staff, what more could you want!
Called in after a walk along the river before heading up into town. My husband was very happy as they serve his favourite beer 'Pabst' which is rarely availablem in other establishments. I had the cocktail offer which was a nice tasting lemon one. Love the additional touches of free popcorn.
Amazing place with an American atmosphere. Authentic, delicious meat, full of flavours and we can't wait to visit this place again.
The only downside is lack of parking
As we was spending a couple of nights in Chester for my girlfriends birthday we decided to try hickorys and we absolutely loved it, everything was just amazing and to top it off the waitress Graziela did a birthday board with a sparkler donut and ice cream, we'll certainly be making a visit again
