Four of us visited Shy Horse of Vintage Inn in Chessington. Unfortunately, we had a poor experience with the service. I placed a number of negative reviews on the poor service in the Shy Horse and copied my comments to them.
However, Jessica from their organisation responded very honestly and positively to my comments. I can not speak highly of her professionalism and integrity in dealing with my negative experience. She has also genuinely assurance me that she will do her best to improve their service.
I am confident that she will succeed in eradicating any potential shortcomings in their establishments. Jessica has made genuine effort to encourage me and friends to return to their pubs/inns. We have now decided to go back to their pubs/inns.
I am now convinced that my experience was a small blip. In my view Jessica and her team are committed to and passionate about providing an excellent service. they will also do their best to provide enjoyable experiences for their customers in their pubs/inns.
Jessica’s passion to put things right, her caring and professional attitude as well as her determination to achieve excellence is to be valued and appreciated.
I have no hesitation in recommending their pubs/ inns for a hearty meal, a friendly and pleasant ambience.
Spent a day in Chessington World of Adventures and then gathered in The Shy Horse for a slap up meal.
Our choice of food, funny enough, was not that varied. The eight of us had bugers or the beef and ale pie.
The food was quite good and there was enough of it. The burgers seemed to go down well. The pies tasted nice but the beef could have done with an extra 30mins cooking to make it really tender, as it was a wee bit tough but still nice.
My only small complaint really is that there was no table service, as in a waiter or waitress taking your order. I say this because the place is set out as a restaurant/pub. It was a quiet night there, as it was a Monday, so it just would have added some more professionalism to the place.
The staff were friendly however and I would certainly go back.
Went with my mother using a complimentary 40% discount voucher recent on an email. Although very short staffed the service was reasonable.
Fortunately we were in time to have the last two home-made pies of the day each, beef in red wine sauce, as our main course which was extremely hot and flavoursome. One served with spring onion mash, the other with chunky fries. Both also had a good selection of fresh, steamed vegetables.
We both had a starter each, again very tasty! Crispy fried brie bites & creamy garlic mushrooms.
Only drawback were the group of children running through from the garden and leaving the doors open causing it to be a little chilly, but soon rectified by the waitress.
Very good food and friendly staff who sorted us a big table for a large group without any trouble at the last minute. Nice venue, although the interior is starting to look a little tired. Would definitely visit again!
A nice treat out for my birthday. Thr food is ok even if it was a bit on the cold side. Decided to try the cloudy lemonade with additional fruit in it. The cloudy lemonade and passion fruit was the winner. This was sharp and a good mixture. However if you like the sweeter ones the raspberry was my second choice with the strawberry one last as it was far too sweet for my palate. My starter was the prawn cocktail. This would have been better with shredded ice burg instead of little gems. There were no compaints about the calamari. The sticky chicken portion was small (3 pieces) but nice so i'm told. For the mains everyone had the roast except one who had the hunters chicken. The beef was extremely tender and my husband loved the gravy. Unfortunately i forgot to take pictures except for one.
We stopped here for lunch not realising that it was part of the Vintage Inns chain. The food was good, as was the service and value for money. I'm in my early 60s and my wife and I were the youngest customers there.
The only reason that I rated it four instead of five stars was the toilets. Whilst they were relatively clean both the gents and ladies smelt really bad.
We had a lovely evening meal.
Great service, delicious food. Very happy with our experience this evening. Thank you
Above average for this type of pub . Good quantity and quality of food overall, with exception of soaking wet lettuce leaf with the prawn cocktail starter - watered down the sauce. The Duck Parfait starter was also very good, but could have done with juSt one more slice of bread. The roast mains were good all round
Beautiful food, very helpful with food allergies, staff are very welcoming will bring family next time for a roast. Great venue for a special occasion, would definately reccomend
Great Sunday lunch! Food was lovely and staff were very friendly. Our server Grace was great. Highly recommend!
Lovely well decorated vintage pub with nice, well presented tables and a real fire. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A good choice of ales, wines and spirits. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the Nourish Bowl + chicken for £14.95 and it was fresh with lovely fruity flavours through it. My friend had Fish, Chips & peas for £14.75 and he said it was fabulous. Well worth a visit. 😋
My friends and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast today. The food was fresh and delicious, brought out in a timely way by our lovely waitress Caroline who couldn’t do enough for us. She was patient, friendly and extremely good at her job. Thank you very much, good service goes a long way!
Pleasant, evidently well maintained, establishment. Shame about the food.
I ate here last week as part of a party of 4 adults, three young children and a baby. The staff were attentive and friendly, but rushed off their feet. The menu choice was limited and the Adults food was mediocre when it arrived. But the kids all enjoyed their meals (which were all better than my meal) and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around outside (although no playground). If I lived locally I'd very probably visit again - but I'd make sure I was good and hungry before ordering food for myself.
I've been driving past this place for years when at work (lorry driver) always wanted to come here so when we went Chessington it was a welcome stop on the way home for food and a few drinks It was very quite when we went there but was a Tuesday around 16:00 but was very nice food was lovely and well priced especially after being Chessington world of adventure
We dropped into the shy horse on our travels - had some delicious dinner one evening and came back the next day for a delicious breakfast. Quick and lovely service (by Jade? and great options for breakfast - both healthy and those for the bigger appetites. Shame to hear they’re looking to stop the brunch menu - I think it’s time for the community to rally around the Shy Horse so they can bring back the brunch menu and keep the pub vibes going!
Lovely welcome to the pub from the staff.
Good selection of items on the menu together with the widest selection of gins I have seen for a long time.
With our grandchildren with us the staff bought over some games for them before the food arrived. Brilliant touch.
Would highly recommend.
Food very good, service was very nice. Chris - the Manager made us feel very welcome and even took our dog for a walk! We were served in a timely manner, our food was no less than perfect and the entire team appeared professional and attentive.
Well done and thank you James!
