Historic pub serving good wholesome food. The 'flight of pies' (steak, chicken and mushroom, potato and leek) was filling but tasty. Welcoming staff.

What can I say... Fabulous, entertaining afternoon playing dominoes and drinking G&T! Lovely salmon salad followed by an amazing rhubarb and custard tart with cream... Omg.. Yummy! The friendliest of landlord and landlady you could ever wish to meet. Well done chef too for your achievements recently! Definitely be back when visiting from "Up T'North". πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ˜‰πŸ˜˜

Went for a Sunday roast. Had been meaning to try one here for some time. It was good. The meat was a little dry... Sides were good, and the beer was what I expected. Service wasn't the best. Felt a bit ignored. For some reason there was confusion when we went to the bar to order more drinks for the table - like that particular act had never happened before. Dining area was nice to sit in, but I've never understood an open kitchen. I don't need to see a chef doing his job (and you can't anyway when sat down below the level of the window), and you just end up leaving the pub smelling of food. Anyway, maybe that's just me.

Bloody good sausage and mash. The mash was bubble and squeak which was even better, tasty sausages and crispy onion rings and a shed load of gravy. Can't beat the lovely staff either.

Nice, genuine pub, with good beers. The barman made us feel very welcome. He was always ready to take our drinks order, but his young assistant, looked bored and uninterested. Definitely recommended.

Honestly one of the nicest meals I have had in Cheltenham. Friendly staff who are happy to get you another pint. And taking responses for each order. I went for the Suffolk burger. Burger with cheese, gherkins, smoked bacon and burger jam. Honestly a fantastic burger and cannot fault how tasty it was. The next was dessert. I am a faller for sticky toffee pudding and am proud to say when I see it it's my way of verifying if the restraint is decent. This sticky toffee was lovely and hot with the sauce and a gorgeous dollop of vanilla ice cream. Not much for the price but it was still a lovely end to the meal and another pint. Total Β£29. For one person. I don't usually go for these, but on this occasion. The sticky toffee pulled me in. The area is quiet with an array of shops and the pub is made to match this. Quiet but soulful. I will be coming here again. They seem so interested in making sure I was okay with the burger and the pudding. And the bartender was happy to have simple conversation. Five out of five for me. Keep it up!

We went for Sunday lunch - I'm always skeptical about having a roast out as I find it's a very personal choice. I had the vegetarian option, it was really lovely but the veg was extremely hard and difficult to cut, only a small bowl of green veg to share between 4 people and the yorkie was a bit burnt. A positive though, plenty of gravy! The staff were lovely and super friendly and perhaps the usual weekday meals are better? I would return to during the week to try a different pub lunch but I wouldn't return for the roast.

Visited as part of a birthday celebration and booked for Sunday lunch. Great service, good food and the lady looking after us was lots of fun laughing with us at how hungover we all were. Great little pub!
