My wife and I have just enjoyed a superb meal for our anniversary, the atmosphere is lovely, the food is fantastic and the staff bend over backwards to make what is a truly remarkable experience even more special, I can’t recommend this establishment enough, it certainly is a hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle of other eateries, if you’re in Cheltenham then get yourself down there, book in advance though, it’s only small and a few people were disappointed to be told there we no tables left this evening. Exceptional, thank you for a wonderful evening Elisabeth and Yves.

Gorgeously presented and wonderful flavours. The service is exceptional and feels welcoming and not too formal. Nothing is too much trouble. We dined here yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised that our waiter was informed beforehand of my shellfish allergy AND remembered that it was a birthday meal (a birthday version of my dessert was served!). The chef came to ask us if we enjoyed our meal afterwards which is always nice as they're making sure your meal lived up to expectations. My favourite restaurant in Cheltenham! Thank you!

This was my Tripadvisor review. There is a reason the restaurant is named L'Artisan and it's because the level of skill required to produce some of the food in this restaurant is astounding. The chef obviously understands and loves the food he produces because it is apparent on the plate. Not only that, but the staff he employs to serve the food obviously have a thirst for knowledge and a passion for fabulous food. My friends and I were visiting Cheltenham for the weekend and had researched restaurant. L'Artisan came up high on the list, especially on Tripadvisor and so we decided to book ahead. I would recommend doing this, especially on a weekend because it's a small, intimate venue so you might not get a seat if you just turn up. Even before arriving at the restaurant, the customer service was lovely. I had a phone call confirming my booking and then another just to check that we were still able to come. Both times the people who rang were friendly and for me a French accent wins every time. The restaurant is in a good location, near some nice bars if you fancy a drink after. As you walk in the ambience is just wonderful. First of all, I love the fact that they employ French speakers which supports the authenticity of the restaurant. We were greeted with a lovely smile and the whole atmosphere was calm and quite romantic. The menu was phenomenal. We took so long to order because we truly could have eaten everything on it. For starters we ordered the red mullet, scallop and king prawn and the aubergine. Before this arrived, we were treated to an 'amuse bouche' of salmon and some homemade bread with a homemade butter; all delightful. The starters were a treat, absolutely no complaints there, for me they were perfect. With our dinner we did have wine. My friend and I had a beautiful sauvignon blanc, very easy drinking and tasty. My other friend had rose which she really enjoyed as well. For mains, two friends ordered the rib eye for two (to be honest, we probably could have shared it between three of us if you're not big eaters). I had the veal and my other friend had the lamb. We ordered French fries on the side (well when in Rome, really you have try French fries in a French restaurant!). Again, there was silence at the table (no mean feat for our group) because I just think we were overwhelmed by excellence. My taste buds were definitely happy and, yes, the French make the best French fries if this restaurant is anything to go by. Finally, we ordered desserts. The waiter had advised us well on portion sizes so we did have enough space for dessert. I had the strawberry crepes, my friend had the chocolate fondant, another had the creme brulee and finally my other friend had the sorbet. You will see from the pictures but they were just delicious. We were all happy with our choices but the chocolate fondue and creme brulee were exceptional. A few extras that we loved. My friend was heavily pregnant and suffers with a nut allergy which the chef was very attentive about. The only thing to note (this is being picky because it was so good) was that on the dessert there was a macaroon but as I say it wasn't a big deal for my friend with a nut allergy but could have been for someone else. The waiting staff were fantastic, Caroline was very sweet but Florian and another gentleman were also very attentive. I loved the information on their name badges which told us if they were studying at catering college, what a lovely touch. We also loved meeting the chef, it was great that he came and spoke to the tables. The personal touch is what really gets me here, it felt for an hour or so that I could have been in France somewhere. Absolute magic, I recommend this and would give it a 10 if I could.

Wow! We had a fair idea it would be wow as we were returning - we had a not unrealistic expectation of what that lovely food was going to do to our taste-buds! Whilst all 4 of us went for fish as the main, each of us had a different starter - rabbit, duck egg, scallops and aubergine. As I said.......wow!

Came for the horseoux desert and we had a lovely experience trying different ones! The decoration was gorgeous and the creme brûlée was great as well. However the coffee definitely needs to be improved. The different coffee were not very well made and some of them were very strong. The staff were nice and the main courses looked amazing so would love to come back for it.

A fabulous independent family run traditonal French Restaurant (actually run by a French family), which puts many of the so called French inspired restruant to shame. We ordered from the set lunchtime menu (two or three courses), which was good value with two choices for each course & freshly prepared. I would definitely recommend & also suggest you book ahead as the restruant was close to full when we arrived.

Such a delight!! The food was impeccable, very authentic French dishes and very nice presentation too. The owners really made this bistro a special place. Felt very well taken care of, they remembered all requests from the online booking, and were so friendly and fast with everything! Loved their own dessert creation horseshoe too! Defo will come back whenever close by and highly recommend!

Got a delicious choux pastry for 4.95£. It was a tad too sweet but the bitter chocolate balanced it just right. Very light & easy to eat.

I tried to book a table at l’Artisan literally for years, but every time there was a special occasion they were unfortunately closed or some other problem occurred. So this time I decided to pick a random day just to go and finally try this restaurant and I’m so glad I did it. The ambiance was nice, candles on the table, everything looked really elegant, the only downside is that it’s a tiny place so tables are quite close to each other. I had the ravioli as a starter, followed by the duo of duck, while my partner had the scallops and the beef fillet. Honestly the starter where amazing to see but I felt like my ravioli were missing something, maybe they were a bit too delicate in flavour. But the highlight of the dinner was definitely the duck, it was simply amazing and I loved every single bit of it. For dessert we ordered a cheeseboard and the chef’s special, the Horsechoux, which is available in different flavours and is in the shape of a horseshoe to represent the town of Cheltenham. I loved our meal from beginning to end and would definitely recommend this restaurant.
