Authentic Spanish Tapas - definitely πŸ’― This family run hidden gem is managed by staff who are warm, hospitable and excel at making you feel like part of the family ☺️ We enjoyed a selection of tapas (3 tapas for Β£18). The portions are generous and we even took some home to enjoy later.

This today became one of our favourite restaurants in Chelmsford alongside MOTO and ROK Kitchen. Finally went for lunch after multiple recommendations for the main restaurant, El Chigre. FOOD 5/5: Every tapa we had was outstanding like, better than or equalling what we've had in reputable places in Spain. Highly recommended: Surtido de Pan (Toasted bread served with dips), Patatas Bravas (Deep fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce), Croquetas (Breaded bechamel sauce with ham) and Berenjenas (Aubergine fingers served with manuka honey). A suggestion on portions for 2 adults out for a light lunch, I recommend 3 tapas. For a heavy lunch, add another 1 tapa and Sangria! We done that! πŸ† The best Sangria I've had to date. It's combined with rum, gin, vodka, aswell as the usual fun! VIBE 4/5: Do not let the cafe-look and posters on the windows outside fool you. The magic has to be tasted. I was also amazed by the number of Spanish people that were eating there; a great sign. SERVICE 5/5: This a very friendly family run restaurant and they care about serving you like you're in their home. The food was explained to us before ordering when we asked questions and also when it arrived, it was not just put on the table. They are proud of their food. Service was attentive, kind, polite and interested. VALUE 4/5: We spent Β£47 including service charge for 2 adults. We had 4 tapas and 2 sangrias of amazing quality. A suggestion would be to create a lunch menu to increase value if the portion sizes can remain the same size. We look forward to visiting the main restaurant El Chigre, to try the steak cooked on lava rocks next!

First time coming here and the staff were very friendly. The food tasted great and the hot chocolate was wonderful, better and cheaper than Costa next door. The churros also tasted lovely.

Kind of a hidden gem. Always been put off entering this place after they replaced Yo Sushi, but that was my misconception. Staff are lovely and the Tapas is on point and hits the mark. They also offer a diverse menu to cater for the mainstream (sandwiches and all day breakfast). Hope they achieve the success they deserve.

Lovely spot for a breakfast, lunch or brunch! Amazing staff who are attentive and show genuine care for their customers. Highly recommend! Their second premises (El Chigre) on Moulsham Street is also amazing for lunch or dinner - been many times and always had a fantastic experience so I'm super excited to continue to come and visit them in town as well ☺️

We only had a coffee but the service was good and I'm looking forward to trying out the food, particularly the churros. Update: we've now tried the churros (several times) and they are perfect - close my eyes and I could have been breakfasting in Seville.

I had the seafood paella, meatball tapas, calamari & patatas bravas. Food was fresh and tasty but the portion size was too small (referring to the Β£20 paella) and food is quite expensive. Love the staff. πŸ‘πŸ½

Highly recommended for coffee, breakfast, cake - frankly anything they sell. Absolutely love El Chigre on Moulsham Street and this contemporary cafe is a natural extension of this family owned business - they have retained the charm and quality of their service and their food as ever is excellent and reasonably priced. Especially recommend the chorizo and scrambled egg, coffee and any cake they sell...!
