We came here on Saturday and didn't book, there were a lot of tables so that was lucky. Early Eve so maybe a better time for a walk in. The food was excellent, very well cooked and all great flavours. Price was reasonable for the food too. Have to say service wasn't as good as hoped. When we arrived we were told no inside seating available as it was booked, but there were free tables until we left. Service outside was slow and almost felt forgotten, for example drink ordered wasn't available but took a while to mention it and bring an alternative. Would come back because the food was good and I've seen other great reviews so maybe we got an unlucky day.
Much like the other restaurants I've visited in this chain, the food was delicious. Their food always has a good level of spice and everything tasted fresh. I ordered the chicken Thai green curry and it was great.
We arrived for lunch and the portion sizes were perfect for us.
A few initial service issues were handled with candour and good humour. Great decor. The food really is very good. Reasonably priced for the standard.
We ate at this Giggling Squid restaurant in the middle of Chelmsford one Sunday lunchtime. It was pretty quiet when we were there but the restaurant is pretty large. It is also nicely decorated in a very floral theme!
The food was good and staff were friendly and helpful.
The food is great and the restaurant’s allergies menu, that you can access on your phone, is excellent. I chose the gluten free filter and it made my choice very easy. Probably the best experience I’ve had in finding gluten free food. I have to be honest the waiter was a little bit abrupt, but he still gave us good service.
Since seeing the first lot of signage go up the new Chelmsford location we were so excited for Giggling Squid to open.
Soon after opening we managed to get a last minute baby sitter and then a table to head to the Giggling Squid to celebrate our anniversary. 10 years since we met! Wow! crazy!
Anyway, from the moment we opened the door of the restaurant we were greeted warmly and welcomed in.
From the short walk to the table you appreciate the decor. A bright and airy room with many floral accents really brightens the restaurant on an icy winters day outside.
Even more amazing when you are sat at what we have dubbed the “lover’s snug”. A set of seats at a table with a Floral archway over each chair. Perfect setting for our anniversary meal, thank you.
The service was second to none, very attentive and friendly staff throughout our visit.
The food, oh the food!
There are no words to be fair.
Steamed pork buns… immense little bites of heaven.
Chicken massaman curry… the fragrance just wafts up through your nostrils when it’s placed in front of you. The flavour paired with the sticky rice and just the right amount of warmth/spice for you to enjoy throughout, without it being over powering.
The Hake Feast Bowl blew my mind! It certainly is a generous portion of fish, which I could barely finish (still had room for dessert don’t worry). A dish full of flavour and a little spice just to keep it flavourful without it being too spicy. And the chunks of hake! So fresh, cooked to perfection!
We genuinely cannot wait to go back to Giggling Squid again, but hopefully sooner than our next anniversary! There’s so much more of the menu for us to discover and the staff made us feel so welcome!
I'll be honest, I just prefer a small proper Thai place, this is just far too expensive with small served dishes with quite honestly medioka flavours.
It's not bad at all, it's just not brilliant but it's convenient.
We discovered Bond Street whilst driving to a near by John Lewis. We were very excited to see that options available at this location.
We like Thai food and we've dined at well known Thai restaurants and enjoyed at eating at family owned Thai restaurants.
Pros:
I was mainly impressed with the atmosphere, there is a sense that it is located in a much quaint part of town. The staffs were attentive, clean table and cutleries. I like when staffs makes an effort to engage with us, and try to find out what we fancy to eat.
Our food came reasonable within the expected time, it felt longer as we were both on the boarder of passing out after a long day.
Cons:
I felt like the food taste good, there's definitely less salt in their food preparation which I really like, but I think real authentic flavours were missing too.
I like simplicity of the cuisines we tried, although I did expect a more flavoursome experience.
Conclusion:
Good-ish, lovely staffs, nice location, reasonably priced.

Flavoursome!!! Delicious mouth-watering Thai food. The decor is pleasing, a little romantic but not overwhelming. A few tables have an intimate floral cage enclosure. As expected when the food is good, it's a busy restaurant, book to avoid disappointment. It's in Chelmsford City center with ample parking spaces nearby.
Awesome food....really nice taste....all the items ordered were delicious abd top class.I would rate 5 out of 5.
Food was delicious however portions were on the small size so make sure to order sides. The only downside was they forgot 2 cocktail orders and had to ask for them. But a great Birthday restaurant.
Good food ! Great service. Beautiful decors and clean thoughout . Will recommend to friends and familes.
Enjoyed a lovely meal here at Giggling Squid! Great staff, competive menu items, a good selection of items to choose from.
Kids enjoyed the meal selection here. The portion sizes were quite good (and filling 😉). Comes recommended when in the area.
Went for lunch with family. It was very empty which I didn't mind (Wednesday). We had starter and the main and everything was absolutely delicious. Curry, seafood, duck all was very nice indeed. You must try the Lychee liquor. Will definitely return. Oh and cocktails are great too.
Incredible new Thai experience at the previous location of the Loch Fyne restaurant in the heart of Chelmsford. The setting is very bright and spacious, the decor is unique and vibrant, the staff are welcoming, friendly and very competent and the food is delicious and affordable. The tapas menu is a great idea that lets you try several dishes and fills you up. Can’t wait to go back.
We went for lunch on a Sunday at 12pm, book ahead if you want to guarantee a table. The tapas lunch menu is great value for money as you get to try different things. Only downside is that you don't get so much meat in the curry but I think the rest of the tapas makes up for it. Our two boys had the children's menu, which was really good sized portions. Would definitely return.
