After a walk at Paper mill lock, we headed up the road to find this pub. It's a lovely looking pub set in a big garden. Inside is even more impressive with beams and low ceilings. We were met by a friendly landlord and lots of locals. It's a cosy little space around the bar, so we jostled in and chose drinks. At least the ales on tap, lots of other beers and ciders. Their speciality seems to be a Vodka list that takes up a full page of A4. The beers were lovely, plus the selection of crisps and Scratchings kept us all happy. A very pleasant way to spend an hour on Saturday afternoon. We'll definitely be going back.

A great little cosy pub to spend a sunny Sunday watching time fly by. Has a lovely decor and charm about the place, nice to see the horses go by on the road, a good beer garden also, and some really nice real ale & beer on tap 👌 and a perfect pint of Guinness ! Very friendly staff shall definitely be coming back again indeed

What a lovely pub. So quaint 😊 food is delicious. Owners are very friendly. There's a pool table too! Parking is great. They have lots of outdoor seating too, obviously not for this time of year but will be great in the summer. Only thing I would say is they don't have a massive selection of bottled wines, the standard size I mean. Apart from that, very nice indeed 😁

Finishing our walk around the nearby nature reserve, the pub was a welcome sight! It is beautifully set on the main street leading up to the top of Little Baddow, and proudly features a lovely beer garden on a slope to its Western side. There is a good selection of drinks, warm food and sandwiches. The place has quite a history (built around 1650) and the owners have made sure the interior is richly decorated with lots of items around a nautical theme. The collection of beer mats adorning the ceiling around the bar to the right of the entrance is worth admiring. Note: the pub serves food but you may have to wait to be served so don't be in a hurry! Enjoy the atmosphere and a good conversation. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, a great testimony of local hospitality.

A great pub. We've been going here for quite a few years. Lovely old pub interior with wooden floors and beams and immaculate beer garden with plenty of seating. The landlord always has a couple of real ales and ciders on tap which change regularly plus a good selection of gins and vodka shots. Highly recommended for a nice relaxing drink in a nice setting.

Had a lovely pint of Ruby Mild in perfect condition and very good ham, egg and homemade chips for lunch at a real "lighter meal" price. Wish this was my local. Landlord was friendly as well. 👍

Great pub in a beautiful area of Essex with lots of excellent public footpath based walks nearby. Good beer, a large garden and good reasonably priced food. Go for a walk then finish with a pInt and some grub knowing you earned it.

A proper real ale pub with three guest beers on cask. Steeped in history and artifacts. Large beer garden. Well worth a visit.

Very traditional English pub with an excellent beer garden and plenty of parking. Very good value for money compared to many other pubs. A nice walk to Paper Mill Lock if you like to stroll down a river.

Lovely traditional pub with nice garden. Great choice of gins and vodka! Cracking ploughmans for a fraction of the price charged by other local hostelries.
