Well worth a visit the grandkids loved it and it was extra lovely as they were with grandad and his mum nanny elaine who use to take him to visit 40 odd years ago xxxx
Lovely museum, larger and covered more than I expected. The staff and volunteers were so helpful, would definitely recommend :)
Really enjoyed the Culture in the Park day at the museum, we arrived quite late so missed a few things but there was still a really nice vibe and a great variety of street food stalls. Always a lovely day out regardless but it's great that these events are put on. Lots more please!
Fantastic sleepover with my Scout group this weekend. The children thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend a visit. Thank you to Caroline and Irene for organising the activities.
Had a lovely afternoon at the Make It at the Museum event. The kids enjoyed painting stones, fabric stamping, fun with clay and pot making in the sunshine. Great value for money and helpful friendly staff. Will definitely go to the next event!
We've been coming here regularly with the children for years and we never tire of the museum. The fact it is regularly updated, well managed and provides wonderful resources and days for the public makes it more than the 5 stars.
I've visited ever since I was a child and now bring my own kids back here throughout the year. Be it the park around the museum or engaging with the various exhibits inside, we love it here.
Spent a night at the museum with brownies and rainbows. With thanks to the staff for putting a very educational and fun-packed sleepover together.
Took my 2 Grandsons to the art and craft session thought it was very expensive for what it was
We came along for our first visit to the museum with our son and friends today for the relaxed autism session. Our son throughly enjoyed the exhibits (esp the live bee hive!)and he enjoyed joining with the crafts available in a calm and far less busy and loud environment. Staff were really friendly and helpful and we loved that little things such as having hand tissues available in toilet rather than having to use the very loud dyson hand dryers were on offer. Little things like this make outings less frought and we will def hope to come along to your next relaxed session! Will be great to see more next year too. Thank you for a lovely morning.
My family and I had such a great day at Chelmsford Museum's 'Culture in the Park' today. We tried on traditional outfits, did arts and crafts and even squeezed in a bit of Bollywood dancing and yoga. The diverse selection of food was fantastic and yummy! It was nicely planned out so there was plenty of space for all the activities and the trees provided plenty of shade to hide from the heat too. Thank you and I hope it'll become a regular event on the calendar. We look forward to seeing what's up next!
Loving the Chelmsford Star Co-op exhibition in there right now. Plus, for nostalgia, you gotta check in on the bear upstairs.
Amazing place for chelmsfordian families to spend a day 😊
This museum is always putting on craft days, open days and organising all sort of activity days- it's well worth coming to!
Good service, good food....
Menus need replacing - they are like pieces of scrap paper now and are what was used during pandemic
Eating area was very messy and grubby - a lot of tables uncleared .
Pity because we enjoy the place but on this occasion - a return to our former home - it was not great.
Lovely here food was excellent. Very busy little place.but well worth the wait.
Really good cafe. Prices are really good here and the food and drink was amazing. Lovely and fresh handmade sandwiches but there were plenty of full meals available all day. Good options for drinks, including syrups and alternative milks. You can also order from your table and have it brought to you. The staff we met were bubbly and friendly. A little hidden gem that we had wished we had known about before.
Wow,thanks for the excellent service and quality of the food, it was so scrummy. 👌 The staff were very accommodating and friendly too. Pleasant surroundings were to be enjoyed as we dined on our various dishes, which did not cost the earth to enjoy.
Well recommended and we will revisit at some point soon.
Nice atmosphere, lovely food, service a little slow but it was a busy day. Needs better provision of toilets and access to it.
This is likely because it is part of the museum and is an old building. Lively grounds.
My daughter and myself (sometimes husband) visit on a regular basis. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, have never had a problem. Food is always exceptional and inexpensive. Took our son, daughter-in-law and 3 boys for lunch (they visited from Peterborough), they thoroughly enjoyed it. It also gave the boys a chance to have fun in the grounds.
lovely building in the middle of a park, visit when you are able to take in the environment and not in a rush. Honest food at a reasonable price. definitely worth a visit 👍🏻

What a find. Was looking for a cafe close to home but in a nice area, and thought we'd try this out. Never knew it existed, but so glad we took the chance to try it out. Food was excellent, and the cafe is a pleasant welcoming place with friendly attentive staff. Inside the park area, with lovely big windows letting in lots of light and giving nice views across the gardens and park. Reasonably priced as well which is a bonus!! Will be back.
They have decent breakfast and good coffee. The surrounding atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. Free parking for 2 hours in Chelmsford Museum.
When travelling, I use Google Maps to find the best place for breakfast. Absolutely came up trumps with The Hive. An excellent café in the lovely surroundings of the Chelmsford Museum in the park. Opens early on a Sunday too
We breakfasted here after an overnight ferry crossing. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Food choice was good and very tasty. We will return next time we take the ferry.
We had a very tasty pasta dish that was pasta, chicken, sun dried tomatoes and chorizo which was very generous and which we would try again anytime. Dessert was basically chocolate brownies and ice cream not particularly adventurous but large portions. The coffee was also goid
Had a great meal at the Hive for my Friends Birthday. We had reserved a table and glad we did as very busy. Staff very helpful lovely friendly atmosphere. Food was great price very good staff excellent will be back, and can't recommend enough. Also the Museum next door and park land to sit in .
What a great little place, first visit today, a warm welcome, very friendly staff, seated quickly even though it was busy, great service and very reasonable prices + lovely rooms and surroundings. Wonderful. 🐝😍
Been here thrice, to try their vegan dishes that are awesome, veg on toast, vegan shephards pie and chickpeas aubergine curry (of the day) as well as the vegan banana loaf. Wish they would increase the vegan items and eliminate the cruel ones such as non vegan sausages, bacon, cheeses, cakes, eggs or meats. The amount of suffering and slaughter is not worth the taste and I am sure all customers will readily agree that violence is unnecessary and unbearable when we have vegan options for everything, why not go vegan?
Great homemade food, reasonably priced and lots of choice, including vegetarian options. A lovely café to have lunch in!
I have visited this cafe on a few occasions and every time it has been outstanding. Always welcomed by a friendly member of staff, service is top tier, even on a busy half term day. Food and cakes are delicious, my children loved the selection of Easter cakes on offer today. And of course the scenery is beautiful, Especially on a summers day ☀️ 5* what more can I say.
What a hidden gem! Wide selection on the menu and lovely atmosphere. Staff are polite and friendly too. Can’t wait to sit outside in the summer overlooking the beautiful gardens!
