Had a fantastic lunch here on the way to a long weekend nearby. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious and left feeling incredibly satisfied. Service was great, served at a good pace and didn't feel rushed even though we were the last customers of the sitting. Particular thanks to the restaurant manager who was great, made us feel valued rather than just another 2 covers which can be the way in some fine dining establishments.
Really standout meal and will be back if we're in the area.
A beautiful venue, tastefully and elegantly furnished with pleasing background music.
Professional, observant staff who noticed when a glass needed filling be it with wine or water.
Absolutely delicious food from the starter of complimentary bread and seasoned butters to the final mouthful.
Everything was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked, we opted for the 3 course a la carte menu at an all inclusive price of £45.00 and were very pleased with the options. One guest, being lactose intolerant, was very impressed with the thoughtfulness of the staff on her behalf.
My only concern and it's probably because I'm not familiar with the etiquette of fine dining, was how very small the portions were.
Between 4 of us we had 5 glasses of wine, 2 bottles of water and 2 x £10.00 "upgrades" for the duck option. We paid £67.00 each plus gratuities. Fairly expensive by our normal standards but we did have a wonderful time.
Thank you.
Incredible place, food and wine.
Discovered this as we’ve followed Thom for years and are big fans of his work. First time taster menu with matching wine flight and could not fault it (other than Thom being on holiday!)
Service was exceptional and the only problem was trying to rank the food as it was out of this world. Flavours I’ve never experienced before. “Best thing I’ve tasted” was the most common review on our table.
3 hour drive for us, but well worth it and I can honestly say we will be back.
Visited for a friends 40th and the area is great with some nice local pubs as a bonus.
5☆ & more. Definitely the best dining experience we have ever had, the attention to detail in every aspect from the size of table, spacing of tables, staff professionalism at their job, quality of food served, Tom is a professional chef in everything he portray's in his business. We have pasted his place SO many times without a 2nd thought, but never again. We will definitely be promoting the Flintlock & will be back. THANK YOU for a wonderful experience.
Wonderful Sunday lunch at the Flintlock. Relaxed surrounding with very friendly and attentive staff. Food was excellent and was the selection of wines. Nice little walk along the canal was good to have too as you won’t leave hungry. Met the Chef Owner Tom too who was really friendly and interesting to talk to. Well worthing a visit!
What an absolute dream of a meal. Mind blowing. We experienced flavours and textures that we didn’t even know could co
Exist.
From start to finish it was a journey in flavour and experience. The staff were fantastic, my
Only critique would be to smile more! The sommelier, what a fantastic representative to your establishment. Knowledgable, friendly, with an amazing palate!
Chef Thom, thank you to you and your team for a fantastic evening. I can’t wait to return!
I also hope the sommeliers conquest to pair bread and beer works out, I’m sure it will!
Thanks team!
Amazing restaurant, definitely lived up to expectations. We went for a Sunday lunch for my partners birthday, she’s a big fan of chef Thom so it was a real treat. The service was exceptional, attentive and friendly. We were welcomed at the door and had a cocktail in the lounge to relax before dining. The food was excellent, the starters were beautifully presented and full of fresh flavours, the Sunday roast was perfect, the portions were very generous, the cauliflower cheese was stand out and the beef was thick and cooked perfectly. We were super happy and Chef Thom even came out and had a quick chat wishing my partner a happy birthday to round off a perfect visit. Thank you team you all smashed it, we’ll be back for a tasting menu soon!
Visited for Sunday lunch set menu, the service received from the minute you walk through the door to when you leaveis good. The menu itself is £35 per person which is a lot for Sunday lunch but well worth it for a special occasion. The dishes were presented well and the food (beef in particular) tasted fantastic. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful setting right by the canal. Easy atmosphere complete with swivel chair. Food excellently presented. Local seasonal ingredients but room for improvement on flavours and seasonings. Young chef with bags of potential. Look forward to visiting again and being wowed
Lunch
By Chef Thom Bateman
We've been following Chef Thom for quite a while,as well as half the Internet.
He's changed from A la carte to tasting menus only recently.
Which suits us as it takes the hard decisions away on what to choose.
There are just two menus now.
An 8 course evening menu £70
Or a 4 course lunch menu £45.
Which changes each month.
We went for the lunch menu.
To kick things off, you are served a snack, which was a delightfully crunchy, slow cooked, hash brown.
Followed by house focaccia with a rapeseed oil & sherry vinegar caramel.
As it's coming into wild garlic season, next up was the wild garlic & ricotta tortellini.
It is absolutely delicious as we love anything garlicky.
The main course of Dunwood Farm glazed beef short rib was the star of the show for us.
It just fell apart and melted in the mouth.
Served with a miso butter onion with a beef fat crumb. Which makes a change to having potatoes.
Plus carrot cooked in carrot 🥕 Wow!
How could we not add the twice baked Dovedale blue cheese Soufflé £8.
Which was devoured in seconds.
To finish was a lovely soft and creamy 70% chocolate parfait.
Staff were very welcoming and attentive, especially the restaurant manager Patrick.
