Great place for a relaxed short break, close to all the attractions of the Mendips and the environs - sadly Shipham isn't exactly a vibrant cosmopolitan experience, so if you are happy to stay in one place of an evening (WIFI is excellent) it's worth checking out. Definitely need a car as public transport is non-existent.
Clean and comfortable rooms (we love the showers!) and a bar downstairs - what's not to like?
Food is of a good standard - the breakfast is huge and served with a smile.
Great local beer and ciders at the bar, well kept and reasonably priced - always a bonus!
There is plenty of parking at the rear.
Overall a positive experience and the Penscott team can be proud of what they have achieved in a short time.
We went for lunch and there was a long wait for food, despite not being busy. However, it was cooked from scratch to order and tasted amazing. Customer service was a little iffy from a dour older woman behind the bar who didn't want us to take a menu outside to look at but everyone else was really friendly. The table next to us spuriously sent back a meal because it had a bug in it - well, we were sitting outside so it was a real possibility it was going to happen - and the staff took back the meal without complaining and provided a fresh one. When our meals then came out, we were advised to watch out for bugs landing!
The toilets were clean and well-stocked with little extras.
We would visit again.
I was doing the West Mendip Way and this was night one after 12 miles and I was quite glad to stop here and rest my weary legs - they do evening meals until 7 pm I think - you can have breakfast or not as the case may be
Proprietors are welcoming and couldnot ask for more - nice to be able to just go down the stairs for breakfast and evening meal
Friendly polite staff, service very good .Family run and orientated ,doggy friendly too.
Great stay and definitely recommend.
Stayed on a local campsite Easter Saturday and walked to this pub for an evening meal. Staff were friendly and welcoming and even gave us a free lift back! Excellent service. Thank you.
Great, wonderful, landlady and landlord, so friendly and helpful. B&B lodgings were immaculate and clean, tea and sundries supplied foc. WiFi is supplied, just ask for password. Great food, cooked by landlord. Lovely dining room, outside tables, dogs and children welcome. Breakfast is supplied to order, with as much tea and coffee as you want, fruit juice and cereal can b eaten as well, but cooked breakfast is ample. Also pool table
We only stayed one night on our way from West Yorkshire to Cornwall but it we would have loved to stayed longer.
The well priced evening meal was great with onion rings and garlic bread starters to die for and breakfast was just something else, and all you needed until your evening meal.
We had to be careful with the locally produced (just down the road) cider as it goes down too easily and can creep up on you if you don't watch it.
We chatted to our down to earth and friendly hosts for hours, they even arranged to charge our electric vehicle overnight for the next leg of our journey.
Next time we do the trip to Cornwall we'll definitely have to book again.
Before we left for Cornwall we visited Cheddar Gorge, just down the road.
Village based pub, with very friendly hosts. Room was clean and had everything you needed. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Ideal base for seeing Somerset. Great value for money and would stay there again. Thank you.
Loved our visit. The owners son Ollie, was a real character. His manner came across quite abrupt initially but then you realise he really is a nice guy with plenty of entertaining stories. Food was how pub should be done and the pub is very clean and welcoming. Highly recommended.
Very happy with our staying. Homely room, good food (and portions), friendly and helpful management, good value all round. All in all a great experience. I would definitely recommend.
Very relaxing stay. Great value for money. It's in a quiet location in the center of Somerset close to Glastonbury, Wells and most places of interest. The bed was very comfortable and the staff are excellent. It's a family run inn, and is very welcoming. We are definitely going back!!

We have visited 3 times now with our young twins and dog and have always found the staff extremely inviting and helpful, and they will go out of their way to make us feel welcome. Lovely food, good beer and a charming pub setting. Highly recommmend!
What a find! We stumbled on this dog friendly pub by accident and have no hesitation recommending it. Friendly staff, fabulous food and the 'Hog Father mulled cider' is amazing. Enjoy.
Good location, very friendly staff and great service. The room is cosy with everything you need for a break away, it's clean, tea coffee and hot chocolate in every room, it's got rural charm. If you're looking for modern chrome and plastic look elsewhere, but if you want good old fashioned care for customers and olde world inn style this is the place. set in a village pretty close to the Gorge
Family run and very chatty staff giving us great service and lovely family food. Portion sizes are a bit small but by the time you've had pudding you're full.
Proprietor was knowledgeable especially concerning beer.
Thai chicken type curry was good and spicy but I prefer lemon grass, lime and curry leaves.
Chicken Cassoulet was ok.
The Havana Veggie burgers were disappointing, lacking in flavour and strangely textured.
All the desserts were good,- I especially liked the Lemon Meringue Roulade.
Location and parking were reasonably good, but the interior was in need of a face lift.
