Fabulous traditional pub. No loud music, just the noise of convivial chatter. Sunday roast beef was excellent. Very tasty, enhanced by a really strong horseradish sauce. Gluten free diners and drinkers catered for, with a selection of GF ales on offer. Loyalty discount scheme available on a Wednesday.
We enjoyed a great Sunday lunch as a large group (6 adults and 4 children). The team were attentive, the food was tasty and our dietary requirements - one vegan and one dairy free - were well catered for. I’d definitely recommend this pub
We had an evening meal with our family and stayed over night. Absolutely brilliant place! Beautiful pub and surroundings and delightful atmosphere! Great range of food on the menu! We had vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters at the table and everyone felt they had lots to choose from and we all enjoyed our evening meals! We tried a range of mains and sides and weren’t disappointed! Kes and the team were lovely and accommodating and looked after us well!
We stayed overnight in the family hotel room and it was perfect for us, plenty of room for the cot for the little one and a comfy bed and a clean, spacious bathroom (with a bath, which is always a plus for us, not having one at home!)
We felt very well looked after, would highly recommend a visit!
I stayed on a Monday, so no food available, which I knew of beforehand. Nice little bar tried 6 of their beers, all of which were either fine or good. All at a great price 😄. Great room with lots of care taken with decor.
Comfortable overnight stop, spacious room, complimentary drinks, lovely dinner menu, breakfast a tad limited and one preferable option not available. Friendly, courteous staff.
Only negative was the total impracticality of the shower which needs addressing.
We booked for a Sunday Roast whilst away on our family holiday in the Cotswolds. All communication from the beginning with Kes was great, we were a large party and she accommodated us well. We were really happy when we arrived as we got the stables to ourselves and the table setting was all beautiful. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! We all really enjoyed it- great portion sizes and great tasting! I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area!
Excellent food and great menu! We were pleased there was a good choice for vegans and vegetarians. We chose plant based dishes (I am vegan and my friend is vegetarian) and they were superb! Service was good too - friendly and helpful.
I love going to the Horse and Groom. Everything you want from a country pub. The staff are very friendly and attentive and make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. Lovely food, the chefs know their stuff. This pub is an asset to the Charlton community and deserves the support of the community in return.
Really good experience. Lovely pub. We watched Women’s WC before our lunch in the bar and then to the rear function area for a very good meal. Everything was excellent and would go again when passing.
Very friendly and overall excellent service. Loved the atmosphere of the whole accommodation. Beer superb. Food excellent. But above all special thanks to Rachel for making our stay memorable.
My family and I visited this pub on Sunday for Father’s Day and it was such an amazing experience. The staff were so fantastic and they couldn’t have worked any harder. The food was delicious and my Dad enjoyed it so much. The whole meal was presented so nicely and I would definitely recommend coming here in the future.

We love this pub so much we stayed over as a treat. The rooms are impeccable. It really felt like a little bit of heaven. Beautiful decor, attention to detail, and dog beds and bowls ready and waiting for our 2 dachshunds. Fresh milk in the fridge (which wasn’t noisy overnight) and a thoughtful range of bathroom toiletries too. Dinner was, as always, spectacular, and it was the best Continental breakfast we’ve ever had! Fresh fruit, sausage rolls, yoghurt with granola, croissants, and so much more! The place has plenty of seating outside and all the staff are friendly and attentive to needs. Thank you so very much! Perfect.
As usual an amazing time at the horse and groom. Fantastic food and service from Kes and the team as always, with a lovely atmosphere. Have been a number of times for food, family events and just for drinks.

I really liked this place. The service was friendly and the food was very good. It is a nice place to relax after a day of exploring. Being very dog friendly (allowed in the restaurant as well as the bar) made it even better. They gave my dog a treat and her own bowl of water. Very much appreciated.
Lovely lunch but I really wish menus online we're up to date not samples, we turned up expecting a lunch menu and maybe a ploughman's when only the main menu was available, everything else was good
