Well what can I say about this pub! It’s amazing! My husband and I have been coming here for 4 years now and we’re never disappointed! Steak is delicious, burgers are mouth watering, the pies are to die for and if we’re not too full the desserts are heavenly!! And the rest of the food always tastes amazing too! It’s our favourite pub and we love it here! Thanks for making it such a good old country style pub with hearty food and lovely staff!

After living less than 20 minutes away from here for just over a year We had our first 3 course meal here yesterday lunchtime . We have tried various pubs in the area but this was by far the best meal we have had on Exmoor and surrounding areas. The presentation and flavours were fantastic, service was friendly and very efficient . The pub was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. We loved the fact that The Black Venus offer the same menu at lunch time as they do in the evenings, that is hard to find around these parts. Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the choices! And if you are like me, a chip connoisseur these are to die for!

Always amazing when we go! Great locally sourced tasty food, lovely local brews, my fave is the Wicked Wolf Exmoor gin and hubby loves trying a new local brew from the tap each visit. Warm welcome from the staff, nothing is too much trouble! Parking, wi-fi and a beer garden! Amazing!

4 of us ate here Saturday night while we were staying just down the road and we were really pleased we did. Friendly staff, a good atmosphere and a great menu where we were spoiled for choice. 3 chose the duck breast, which was cooked perfectly and 1 had sea bass, which was also delicious, all washed down with a very good bottle of Malbec. We also somehow managed dessert, which everyone enjoyed too! We will definitely return if we come back to the area again.

A marvellous pub which is always busy. They don't take bookings so you have to hope there is a table available when you get there. The food is fantastic and that's all you need to know. The triple cooked chips are the best I have had and are worth the visit alone.

I have been road tripping for nearly a week. As I'm only in the area overnight, I was recommended to this pub. What a lovely place! I had the best meal here than I've had anywhere I've been all week! Lovely little place, lovely atmosphere, made to feel very welcome, and food in particular was amazing! Well done The Black Venus Inn!

Excellent food, good value for money. Staff friendly and professional. A proper English pub. Our last night here, but if we had found this place on the first night we would have come every night.

Fabulous lunch duck breast cooked perfectly and their chips can’t be bettered. Lovely spot on Exmoor ideal for a perfect day out. We try to go once every 6 months and would go more often if it wasn’t so far

We visited last year on a celebration and again this year. The owner whom I believe was tending the bar was so pleasant 10/10 really attentive to our needs and checking the food was ok and if we needed anything. The food was superb we are planned to go again in February with our friends ! It's a really welcoming place, food is great and really attentive staff

This place is amazing, we came as a big group whilst on holiday and they took us in their stride. All the food was amazing, beers and ciders were tasty and the server was friendly and never too far away. Couldn't recommend this place enough, a great little cosy pub with a car park over the road. Meant to take a picture of the meals but it was so tasty I only managed an empty plate. There were 15 of us on our booking and every single plate went back empty 👌

Booked a table for lunch without knowing anything about the pub. Great decision. Food was outstanding. Drinks were also excellent. Pub was busy but staff were very nice. More expensive than your typical pub but well worth it. Highly recommended.

So.... I'd like to give this place the worst review ever, just to keep it quiet and make sure nothing changes. However I can't! It was simply excellent! The meet and greet was spot on, very nice hello and welcome, happy e help with trying the local seasonal beers , which were in my opinion award worthy! Then there was the food! Local seasonal excellent! I had a fabulous chestnut soup, wonderful flavours and a real treat. Then the venison and mushroom pie, again really meaty and full of distinct flavours. The rest of my part only reported positively on all the starters and main courses, and sounds silly, but the chips! Wow the chips. So all in all if your looking for a proper Exmoor experience, put this stop on the list, lunch or dinner or just beers! We will return! Hopefully to the same place, and not over run and hard to get in following my review! Enjoy!

Got to say one of the best places I've eaten at..... had hake and pasta etc wife had mussels in cream sauce... venison sausages.... the cod chips etc... cant fault a thing and even though feeling a bit stuffed I'm going in for dessert big time... pray for me. 10/10 and if booking please book one day before Earley as I can understand why its fully booked. Just come here try and enjoy. Staff are top notched and very polite 👌

A brilliant pub. This is the most quint essential devon pub, we had to drive through a farm to get there. The pub is in a tiny village, low ceilings, exposed wood, pool table and local ales etc. The atmosphere is lovely and friendly. The food is brilliant, locally sourced with an updated menu every night. We had a fantastic meal. We live in an area where pubs are easy to find. But good ones are hard to come by. If this was our local we would be there every night. The dishes aren’t the cheapest but that is because they are so fresh, lovingly made and not defrosted and deep fried beige. If you are wondering whether to go, just go and make sure you order some chips.

Outstanding food, lovely staff, beautiful old pub. Soo happy I found it! The home made chicken pie and steak mains were superb, and soo nice to have good wine at a pub too. Who knew chips could be to die for. Will be back to try more, especially the desserts. Thank you

A lovely pub with a high standard of pub food and local produce. Recommended to me. The sirloin steak was delicious as were the chips. The chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream, fudge and sour cherries just blew my mind. Dogs welcome. You may need to reserve as they don't need to advertise. Word of mouth works just fine for them!

Menu choices were extensive, but the 2 hour dining slot felt a bit rushed. Service was excellent and food was delicious. Good selection of beers and cider. Probably best to choose last sitting to avoid the rushed feeling which spoilt the experience for me.

Absolutely amazing pub. Great atmosphere and first class friendly service. The food is the best we’ve had since moving to North Devon a year ago. Obviously the word has got out as the pub was very busy despite it being a wet evening. 100% recommended

The pub is located in a beautiful setting. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the chili, which was hearty and flavorful. The beans were cooked perfectly, and the chili was full of flavor. Overall, I had a great experience at The Black Venus. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great meal in the Exmoor National Park.

The food here is absolutely incredible! We’ve had two meals here in two days as we just had to come back (unfortunately we discovered this gem at the end of our holiday)! The staff are friendly and attentive, and it’s got that really authentic old English pub vibe. Genuinely some of the best food we’ve ever eaten. Can highly recommend the crab (bruschetta starter and dressed crab main), the mussels, the steak was delicious, and the meringue and crème brûlée were also winners!
