Fantastic old original pubs like these are getting very hard to find. Go there if you like quirky, quant and queer places but don’t if you read the Daily Mail! We loved the whole shebang including the Land Lady and friend Alan who even acted as our private chauffeur to and from our campsite for a small fee. The food we had was huge and tasty pub grub and the ale and cider selection great. Great experience, thank you!

Very quaint, traditional interiors with fantastic music and open fire. Simone the landlady was really friendly and had some great stories to share. Friendly locals too. Quite steep steps from the carpark if you have limited mobility. We didn't eat but the food looked terrific.

We had a lovely stay and were made to feel extremely welcome.Simone made ua feel very welcome and took an interest in the reason for our stay. The pub has a lovely atmosphere. We stayed overnight and the room was clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast was delicious and a fine example of proper home cooked food. Would definitely recommend and will be back. Nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely old pub with loads of character. We have been meaning to visit for years but it's always been shut. Not now, the new landlady Simone told us she is open all day. We stopped for food which was very reasonably priced. I had a pint of prawns which I haven't seen for years since I lived by the seaside. My husband had fish with hand cut chips. The food was great. The new owners are really friendly and welcoming and it's super dog friendly. Well worth a visit

We stayed in the holiday cottage opposite and loved this cute, traditional pub. Simone, the landlady, was so welcoming and gave us tips to find local attractions (our boys are still talking about Shilly pool!). Lovely ale, delicious lamb shank and scampi in massive portions and really friendly people. We will be back soon and thanks for making us feel at home.

Had a amazing time here on Friday night. The atmosphere was brilliant and the staff are lovely. Simone the landlady put out some chips and sausage for everyone. Nice touch. Will definitely be back.

Such a great pub with a good selection of drinks and food, and the best welcome. Simone and Alan are the nicest pub owners (with the best pub dog and cat!) and it's always a fantastic atmosphere whenever we visit. A must-visit if you're in the area!

I don't usually post reviews on both Google and TripAdvisor but feel the need for this glorious and totally unspoilt pub. A proper locals' freehouse pub. Rustic and unpretentious which is the whole point of its attraction. A rare breed in this day of chains and gastro pubs. Delicious pub grub. Cosy. Log fires. Doggy friendly. Obviously. Welcoming Simone. Thankyou my lovely. We plan to return with The Americans. Show them how it's done! TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa 🇬🇧 🇳🇿 Whoops! I am mistaken. 10 stars surely?

Earthy village pub. Popped in for Sunday lunch with our 2 dogs. Good atmosphere with friendly staff and customers. Wholesome food . Great beer, so says hubby! Very pleasant on a rainy Sunday.

Visited here today 01-04-23 having previously been recommend to visit by someone out-of-area. Wow, did NOT disappoint. These kinds of places are a dying presence in our highly commercialised pub trade. The pub itself is just oozing character and history; the new owners are absolutely enchanting. The combination is unforgettable. If an authentic and enchanting experience is what you seek. Make a visit. 5-Star rating.
