A beautiful modern restaurant offering a contemporary take on classic Indian dishes. You come away feeling like you've had a premium experience but very reasonably priced. It's unlike your standard Indian restaurant experience.

The food at Clay’s is so delicious that I forgot to take photos after the first couple dishes arrived! Really extraordinary flavours and ingredients, all very innovative and we were excited to see each plate. Super friendly and attentive (but not pushy!) staff. Everything feels considered and looks and tastes beautiful. Plenty of vegetarian / vegan options, we had a proper feast and definitely over ordered (we had a main course each - you can definitely share!). My friends organised the dinner as a surprise birthday and I couldn’t have had a better meal! Lots of beautiful decorative and interior design choices too. Highly recommend.

Clay's is a lovely and friendly restaurant. The food was delicious, probably the best Hyderabad and Indian food I've had. They have great vegan options, with a dedicated vegan section of the menu. We had the wild mushroom bathani masala, which was sublime. Clays has a great selection of beers, with many coming from locally breweries like Siren and Double-barrelled. I will definitely be visiting again, and plan on ordering from their "Clay's at home" online store.

Super friendly, very accommodating authentic Indian restaurant - hosted a party of 16 on Saturday and every guest said it was the best Indian food they'd ever had. No overly sweetened/sugared generic british/Indian curries, but plenty of real Indian recipes handed down through families. Food was exceptional, the setting is well thought out and has a great feel to it, accessible parking just round the back and the staff/atmosphere were a pleasure to be around. Will definitely be visiting again - thanks to all the team.

There’s no picture of the food as I ate it as it was so good, melt-in-the-mouth venison and lamb curries and the flatbreads are also so good. The coconut pudding is just delicious. Highly recommended. So good.

We were finally able to visit and use our crowdfunding contribution to enjoy a tasty and well spiced meal with excellent service and plenty of choices for all dietary requirements. The Andhra rice crackers were a welcome change from papadams with a well spiced coriander and mint chutney and a portion was enough to share between the 3 of us. The Indrahar curry was distinct, lentil cake cubes in a rich vegan sauce, and the others enjoyed their Lamb biriyani specials though not outstanding and we thought that a mixed vegetable curry side would have complimented these dishes. The aloo fry side was tasty though. High quality cuisine, which you pay for with a 12% service charge added and the meal was already over £100 for 3 of us including starter, mains, side and drinks so not somewhere we could afford to visit regularly. A pleasant atmosphere with much more space than the previous venue in London Street though the upgrade must have taken its toll on the owners. Perhaps for this reason we did not feel very welcomed by the owner; though this was just our impression, it is a really important part of a special occasion meal out, even if a bit of an act is put on for your benefit. The younger staff were on the other hand extremely proficient and helpful.

Delicious Hyderabadi cuisine on Prospect Street; the dishes we had were fresh, full of flavour and a refreshing twist to the Indian food we were used to. I would highly recommend visiting, but make sure you book well in advance as they’re usually quite booked up.

Just moved to the area and heard great things about this restaurant with a lot of hype. The menu looked interesting, including the specials and struggled to choose. However the food when it came was average-good, not exceptional as we had hoped. Sizes were small and prices were high. Crab donuts starter were a highlight. Service was exceptionally slow. We had to order crackers in-between main and starter and we did get an apology for the slow service. Thankfully we weren't in a rush but it wasn't very busy so I would worry about waiting time on a weekend. (We went on a Thursday). Would be a 3 star but our waiter ETHAN was absolute highlight so have pushed it to 4. Other staff seemed young and inexperienced but this guy had great chat, knew the menu and wasn't scared to give his own recommendations. I couldn't believe it when he told me he was only 17 when I asked. This guy will go far. Probably wouldn't be in a hurry to return but a fairly nice evening nonetheless.

Service was very good and all the recommendations were excellent. My only criticism is that some of the curries were a little over seasoned. Nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable evening. One last thing... try hard to not sit near the back of the restaurant. When people arrive or leave through the car park entrance at the back, there is a really cold draft that blows through and makes it very unpleasant.

An incredible experience from start to finish. We went on opening night and it was flawless. Get a table booked before the waiting list is months long! They have fantastic local craft beer on tap which pairs perfectly with their food.

If you’re looking for cheap South Asian food don’t come here. However, if you want to try some of the best food around, this is it. Flavours were delicate and rich. Every dish offered something new. The restaurant isn’t cheap but it isn’t astronomically expensive either. A great addition to Reading’s restaurant offerings.

We enjoyed a truly excellent meal at Clay's, following their relocation. We had been looking forward to this for some time and were not disappointed. Our main courses were the village style lamb and paneer and these are both to be recommended. The lamb was slow cooked in a clay pot and absolutely melted in the mouth. The paneer was deliciously spicy and accompanied by a rich, comforting sauce. We left very happy and intent on exploring more of the menu later.

What a gorgeous place! Such unique flavours and dishes but all the spice and warmth that you’re used to from the Indian cuisine. We went for the pork belly, fried chillies, crab and chicken fry starters. The pork belly was sweet and aromatic and very good, but the winner were the fried chillies. Such a unique dish, never had anything like it! For mains we had village style lamb in a clay pot and paneer curry. Both absolutely gorgeous in their own way, the lamb was rich and earthy, the paneer curry was creamy and aromatic. Nothing was disappointing! Will come here again soon:

I've known Clay's for a long time and it's so heart warming to see them expand in this wonderful, new space. The food is as mind blowingly delicious as I remember with unsual, bold flavours! The new space is soo lovely, filled with plants, lovely lighting and the signature clay pots on the skylight sill. The photos show two starters: cut mirchi chat and the prawn starter, two mains: gongura chicken and indrahar, plus our sides: bagara rice, aubergine fry, and aloo fry.
