To be fair, this is a pretty standard Green King pub with a distinct lack of real ales actually available on tap when we visited.
The food for the adults was good, but the reason I'm giving this pub 5 stars is for the staff.
One of our party is a toddler who has SEVERE reaction to eggs and dairy, so it is very difficult for his parents to take him anywhere to eat, due to the risks of cross contamination.
We informed the staff (Sam was on bar and Beth was in the kitchen) and they did an OUTSTANDING job of checking the ingredients on both the main meal (we had to change the main meal as it had a trace of egg in it, which Sam advised us of) and dessert, isolating his food and keeping us informed all the way.
Absolutely superb job by Sam and Beth as the toddler had a great time eating his food, and more importantly had zero reactions, all due to the care and attention of Sam and Beth.
Both are a credit to Green King.
Specifically went here to see what the recent refurb was like. We weren’t disappointed it was looking great. A good selection of drinks and a good menu. The only reason I’ve dropped a star on the food was because of the Mac n cheese, it could’ve done with putting under the grill for a few minutes just to crisp it up a bit. Overall really really good. The chip shop platter was excellent with well cooked fish with a crispy batter.
Myself and my boyfriend came in for a roast yesterday and it was amazing. Catherine was really helpful and recommended the roast beef. We were told the chef for the day was Jacob. Hats off too him the food was great and service was really quick
Came in on Friday tea time for a leaving do. The 2 barmen in loud shirts were absolutely fantastic. They were quick to serve ,and even though it was extremely busy they seemed to breeze through it. Their customer service was an absolute credit to the company. You made our evening so enjoyable and created a great atmosphere for everyone there. Thank you.
Stopped by for breakfast. Really nice and good value. Plenty of covered outside space for the lovely British weather. Shout out to Steve the chef, nice cooking.
Came for a late lunch on a Tuesday. The new look of the place is great and very inviting. Bringing our 6 year old, she felt very comfortable. The staff were very pleasant, Steve and Katherine were great and the food prepped by Sean and Tim was spot on. Considering the price of the food, it really was spot on. We’ve lived in the area for five years and this was our first visit, gutted we didn’t come sooner! We were drawn in by seeing how popular the place looks since it was done up. We’ll be back as soon as we can. Maybe a few days to let the grub down!
It was a surprisingly busy Wednesday evening but the service at the bar was so slow. Once served the beer was good. The food menu was vast but a lot was not available. It was tasty though. The atmosphere was good outside with lots of space.
Visiting family in the area and was told to try The Golden Eagle as it has recently been refurbished. The pub is very clean and tidy. The outside area has lots of seating to enjoy the sunshine. We had booked for 5 using website but 4 more friends joined us and the manager quickly accommodated this. We ordered for 6 adults and 3 kids, we were informed of a wait time due to being busy and food arrived in that time and altogether. The staff were very attentive and made sure everything was good with the food. We will definitely visit again and recommend the the Nachos and chicken wings as sharers.
Visited from Hampshire. Fantastic staff - especially Jacob, who went above and beyond when it came to food intolerance and overall service, felt like we had personal service, so accommodating and super friendly guy too! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Food was lush and really good cost. The overall atmosphere was very welcoming! So much to do here: they play all sports and have a great little games area along with activities every night! Also dogs welcome which was a plus!
I wish this was our local! Must have visit for a great pub feel!
Must admit I didn't expect to wait an hour and 30 minutes for our food to come out. If we had been warned when we ordered the food that it would take this long,then we could've made the choice whether to still have it or not. The food was delicious and well worth the money when it eventually got to us. The staff behind the bar were lovely and very polite. The refurbishment is very nice. Must admit I would definitely go there again for a drink.
A lively place with very reasonably priced food. Two Sunday roasts for £12.99. However, you get what you pay for. Ok food but nothing special. Friendly staff though.
The recent makeover has made a big improvement. Smart decor inside and out. More seating outside covered and not covered. Big choice of beers. New menu is very good and well priced. The staff work really hard, but they need more. We recently went on a warm Saturday evening and they were struggling to keep up. No.1 choice for food and drink in Carterton now.
Absolutely love this place! The food is amazing my favourite is mac and cheese.

Came to see the new refurb with grandparents who’d come from Essex for the day. Really wide variety of food including vegan options, was advised food would be a 45 minute wait but it came out in around 20 which was great!
Good good with huge portion sizes which was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Got 4 meals and 4 drinks for just under £10 per person which is more than reasonable.
-1 star on atmosphere as It was daytime and the music was a little bit too loud but overall atmosphere was good!
Tried it out today after the refurb and it's lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. Fliss was pleasant and offered extras like double burger and desert but not In a pushy manner. Food was brilliant too and reasonable priced. Will def return xx
The refurbishment of the place has been done really well. It has a really modern feel, with a great outdoor space for socialising.
The service could be better as ordering off the app, we had to wait around 40 mins to be table served. The staff were more interested in serving at the bar, than sorting app orders out.
If you ignore the app ordering issues; it is a really good pub for food and drinks.
Pub looked great, wonderful atmosphere. Only upside down was my burger as it was not properly cooked.
