The hotel was a pleasant experience. We were there for 4 nights and loved everyone and everything about the hotel and bar. We met Rob, the manager and he has put together a staff of family and friends that are delightful!
The food was outstanding and the drinks were plentiful and priced right. All in all, after 2 months of travel in Europe we have the fondest memories of that hotel and Carnoustie. Going back next year for another dose of old Scotland. A great experience!! Thank you all so much

What an unexpected gem of a restaurant!
Was visiting family in Carnoustie, and decided rather late to go and find somewhere for lunch. The first place we tried (generally regarded as a fairly decent hotel restaurant) had stopped serving lunch at 2pm, so 2:30pm was just too late.
Tried the Corner Hotel as a 'last resort' for food (and not expecting anything to be available at 2:45pm), but what a great 'last resort' this turned out to be!
Not only was lunch at ~2:45pm not a problem, but the whole experience was excellent.
The menu is fairly typical for a hotel restaurant with lots of favourites like breaded/battered fish & chips, Chicken Supreme/Cajun, etc.) which is fine - I don't feel there is a need to try hard to be 'different'..
The waiter was attentive and very pleasant (I also noticed he was careful with regards to hygene - bringing cutlery wraped in napkins, and placing them on the table without touching them before removing the napkin - a small detail, but didn't go unnoticed).
Food was ordered, and, pre-warned that food is prepared freshly, so may take a little bit of time to arrive, service was perfectly acceptable.
The food portions were generous (I eat a lot as a result of my athletic endeavours, and dread 'small' portions in restaurants - no worries here!). The restaurant can also provide smaller portions upon request.
More importantly, the food arrived piping hot, on preheated plates, and the food quality was high.
My Cajun Chicken was well seasoned which I found great (it may be on the spicy side for some, though). The potatoes were just right, and the veg was not boiled to death. Spot on.
My mother's dish, Chicken Supreme, was equally plentiful and good quality.
Overall, the food was excellent (I'll certainly be back), and the pricing was very keen - fairly typical hotel pub/restaurant pricing, but excellent value considering the quality and service!
My only comment to the hotel is: please, don't change anything!
I ordered the chicken supreme although I had to wait on this as it is made from scratch each time it was well worth it. So tender and tasty also the veg is NOT frozen. ..go on try it .
Had a fine lunch here 16th September, I had the steak pie plenty of melt in the mouth steak nice crisp chips and veg just the way I like it not mush just nice, missus had the chicken tikka tasted great and plenty for lunch, all cooked well and was hot when arrived, chef lady made our day giving us 4 free scones to take with us, barmaid was very miserable taking order, had to ask for cutlery and then napkins 😞.
The room was lovely and the bar food was proper pub grub and the portions were generous. I would stay again.
Stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely room. Staff very friendly. Had problem with car and they were very helpful.
Wonderful very helpful staff couldn't do enough to help. Beautiful room. Thank you for a lovely stay.
First time at the restaurant and it won't be the last. The food was excellent, as reported by the locals in Carnoustie. I have lived in Carnoustie now for 3 years and only heard lately about how good the food was here. My wife had the steak pie & trimmings, I had the gammon steak with trimmings. They were both very good and cooked to perfection. We will certainly be back to sample the rest of the menu very soon. Apparently it is a small kitchen, so booking is recommended, but not essential. The restaurant can seat 26, but you can also eat in the lounge and the bar. My only reason for not giving the restaurant 5 stars was being unable to sample my favourite beer (McEwan's 80/-) however, they have McEwan's 70/- & John Smith's, so all was not lost. I can see why this place is a favourite with the locals. I would recommend trying it out.
Had Sunday tea in the dining room… great value for money & enjoyed by all. Young waitress was lovely & very attentive….. looking forward to returning soon 👍
