Had a pretty nice meal here I ordered the Shakshuka which unfortunately didn’t come with any chorizo, but I did add the overnight bacon for an extra fee.
I have to say the overnight bacon was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend trying it.
The lady who served us was very welcoming and friendly and helped with recommendations on the menu.
Even though I didn’t ask for it, she even had my dirty chai remade as I had mentioned it wasn’t hot.
One of the greatest breakfast spots in Cardiff, their bacon is next level. If you've not been there and tried it, literally run now! Incredibly tasty food, staff are so lovely and helpful which only adds to a lovely independent dining experience.
Outstanding service food was delicious can't really ask for more coffee spot on great staff and the chefs are proper thanks
Called in on a Sunday for brunch, sat outside and had the granola. Overall, it was nice but there was a loooot of mint in the granola which overpowered the flavours of anything else. The service was a little slow but it was busy, some of the staff didn’t seem to know where food was supposed to be served (food coming out to wrong tables). They also had stopped serving some of the items on the menu which was a little disappointing. I’d definitely go back but a bit earlier in the day so everything on the menu would be available 🙂
From January-March 2023, Ground Bakery in Pontcanna are hosting Tom Waters Gorse Restaurant pop up. On the night we visited, it was fully booked and by the quality of the cooking I can see why.
The venue was a lovely setting for a pop up, clean and natural decor, with soft lighting and music. Really warm welcome and allowed to choose a table of our choice as we were early. We chose a table at the back where there is a window into the kitchen. The menu is a taster menu of 9 courses. Service was prompt and started with a lovely seaweed broth, which was delicious. Then we were served a trio of canapés with the Sika deer on hash brown being my favourite. The cute warm buttermilk roll with Nori butter was so smooth, with a glazed crust I could have eaten 3 or 4!
The star of the show & I feel it becoming a signature dish was the Mackerel, served with cris apple flowers and warming Horseradish. Desserts were all high quality, with brown butter ice cream being a surprise favourite. You can also opt for the wine tasting. The only dish that felt a mister was the turnip-I am not a cheese enthusiast so it was a struggle to digest. However this did not distract from a fantastic evening of food and highly recommend if you can make a booking before it finishes. Wish Tom all best on establishing a permanent residence in Cardiff
Overnight bacon is a must order. Great coffee and food. Dog friendly too.
We stayed upstairs in the apartment for a visit to Cardiff. So in the morning we went down to ground bakery to have breakfast and the food was AMAZING. The owner (I think) or the manager was so welcoming and lovely to talk to. All the staff are happy and love to chat. Highly recommended it
The best bacon and egg roll I've ever had! The bacon is coated / marinated in something and the flavour is incredible. Add in the great coffee, selection of cakes (I can recommend the custard filled croissant) and lovely staff and what's not to love. Well worth a visit.
I’ve been going to ground almost every week since it opened & have pretty much had everything on the menu + all bakery items over the years. Safe to say, it’s excellent 🙌🏽 Service is friendly, warm & inviting, food quality is unreal and I feel very at home there. Baristas & chefs wave hello when they see me, they love having the dogs + my baby is always welcomed with open arms. Cannot recommend it enough!
We went here for brunch today. The staff were attentive and knowledgable. The food was fabulous, so tasty and well presented. Will definitely be back. I loved the decor too. Ground is on point 👌
