First the food was great The staff couldn't do enough for us I can recommend to eat here
Bella Italia is one of the more insidious chain restaurants in the city; silently cropping up on every corner like an upmarket Starbucks. This is the second of their vicious trifecta, the first being on St. Mary's Street and the third living within the Brewery Quarter.
This one is also the worse off of the three. Whilst Bella on St. Mary's Street can at least avoid the street sounds now that that area has been pedestrianised, and Bella in the Brewery Quarter is situated within a cluster of other restaurants so the noise from outside is not so intrusive, Bella in the Red Dragon Centre has to suffer the hoots and whistles of the 15 year olds attending the cinema, or the bowling alley next door.
That kind of thing has a tendency to ruin the ambience.
Otherwise, the food is standard 3663 fare. Haven't quite had the epiphany I had once at St. Mary's Street, but it's passable. All in all, as good a-place as any to end up if you're doing the dinner-and-a-movie thing, you American swine.
Now I don't usually like the idea of eating in a multiplex, however I make an exception for this Bella Italia as nearly everything else about it is great.
First off I'd recommend eating inside the restaurant, which on the décor front seems to be going for the quaint Italian tavernna look, which it pulls off rather well. It becomes quite easy to forget that you're actually in a multiplex (especially when they start lighting candles everywhere.
The food is of course Italian (with a name like Bella Italia, you're hardly going to expect Indian are you?), and though the pasta and pizza are all good there is a salmon dish, that I've completely forgotten the name of, but which is covered in the most amazing sauce.
One slightly negative thing that I have noticed, is that the staff whilst friendly can often take quite a while with the bill (you'd think that being next door to a cinema they'd realise that many of their patrons probably have films to go to). Aside from that little niggle, a good place to eat, and if you're planning on seeing a film just make sure you leave plenty of time.
I adore all kind of pasta but my home-made Spaghetti never tasted like these in the Italian restaurants. That is why I eat often in Bella Italia, it's my favourite. Large portions, perfect service and of course all dishes taste heavenly, not only the pasta.
I loved the hospitality of Bella Italia Cardiff bay. The service was quite quick. The staff helped me with the vegetarian options available. The spaghetti Bolognese, the queen margarita pizza were great. The kids menu was really liked. The taste of the dishes were very good. The side of cauliflower wings was quite different and good. Overall a very positive experience.
Wonderful meal, friendly staff, pre-theatre dinner.
Crodino mocktail, mushroom crostini, meatballs, vegetarian pizza, papadelle cacciatore, tiramisu and chocolate/salted caramel/mango sorbet.
Delicious!
These meals are from the two or three course set menu offer.
Lovely surroundings with friendly and knowledgeable staff. A great choice of food on the menu too. Great social distancing provisions in a clean and fresh restaurant. The food and value were fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant when you're in the Cardiff Bay area.
Very very very good service. Food was lovely but the staff made the evening, especially our Italian server (I didn't catch your name - sorry!), who was very friendly, warm, and helpful. I'm so sorry we couldn't leave a decent tip! Would highly recommend this branch.
Have visited many times in the past, love the food @ Bella.
Checked website today for Thursday opening times as we intended to lunch there in May before a visit to Wales Millenium Centre to see Drifters Girl.
Sadly, that will not be possible as opening hours now start from 4.30pm on a Mon/Fri with extended hours on the weekend
Great food, great service. Staff really friendly and helpful. Love the dairy free options...one of the cookie dough desserts is dairy free!!
Really enjoyed the food here. Typical Italian menu great range of Pasta and Pizza dishes with steak and fish to choose as well. First class sercice we weren't rushed at all. Had a lot of help regarding our sons peanut allergy which made choosing his meal really easy.
Well, we were bought a groupon voucher for my wifes birthday..I have to say wow...the meal was outstanding, the best lasagne I have ever tasted. The staff were amazing, friendly and polite..nothing was too much trouble. The dessert was stunning too. Of you ever want to go out for a delicious Italian meal you wont go far wrong by going to Bella Italia. Well done all.
This Bella italia was not so busy loads of places to sit so we had a large selection of choice. Meal was lovely that staff were very accommodating!! The parking is free but enter your ref in the computer so the ANPR register you as a patron on the way out. I really liked this restaurant more than the others due to quiet location.
Great food, loved that they very good on allergens especially nice to enjoy gluten free pasta, breads etc. Fantastic service.
Reasonably priced chain Italian inside the Red Dragon Centre, Cardiff Bay. Wide menu choice including chilldrens options. New menu choice features lots of spiralzed veg dishes for veggies and healthy eaters, ice cream cart, vegan meatballs and Menabrea beer on tap also nice touches. Staff friendly if a little slow to clear. Overall a good option if visiting the cinema or Millennium Centre.
The staff were amazing and the food was lovely. Very accomodating to children with a very simple format for children to understand what food they are getting.
The food was amazing , piping hot and not rushed. Staff were brilliant, smiling chatty and helpful 😀
Lovely visit today with my 2 kids, friendly staff, great atmosphere & beautiful food, will be back again soon
Had the BEST birthday lunch today. The service was first class. Our waitress ( the blonde lady ) organised a table for us despite the fact that they were very busy.
The food was excellent & we would definitely recommend & will visit again.
Always receive great service from a lovely waiter who I believe has worked here for a while! Unfortunately, there's a few things that let this place down slightly. The food can be a bit hit and miss, and I've noticed that the drinks are now a bit pricey! Apart from that, there's often offers and good set menus to choose from! 😊
