South Asian fusion combining the best of Indian and the best of British cuisine to deliver a palate whomping experience in the most opulent of surroundings
Beer then curry, is there a more logical sequence of events? Lager followed by goat’s cheese tartlet...ale then Caesar salad...stout then trout… they just don’t have the same appeal. However, that last one does have a certain ring to it. So, after a clutch of post-work weekday pints down the Bay, there was only way the evening was going to go… The Duchess of Delhi’s Head Chef, Sundaramoorthy Krishnasamy, knows how to cook a damn fine curry. I’ve previously enjoyed his Southern Indian food when he was running the kitchen at Spiceberry . And with experience behind the stoves at Purple Poppadom and Mint & Mustard, Krishnasamy has an enviable Cardiff curry CV. Whilst The Duchess of Delhi’s a la carte menu encompasses specialities from across Southern Asian, including Nepalese momos and Indonesian Nasi-goreng alongside more familiar curry house staples, it’s reassuring to see there’s still a dominance of Southern Indian food. However, this is a little moot as we arrived just before 7pm and
Ate there last night and had a very enjoyable meal. Plenty of meat in the curry, nicely spiced and all the sides were good. Of course, we'd all like meals to be cheaper but that's the way it is now. Really pleasant waiter, good service.
I was very hungry 10pm and a nice lady let me order when they closed. I was not expecting much because the hour but they treat me very well and the food was nice too. All the place where closed but they save the day.
Pre theatre meal... second visit won't be the last ...the food is excellent, the service very high quality. And value for money. Would highly recommend.
Lovely range of dishes and a great vegetarian selection, warning though, it's all quite spicy. Only downside was they only accept cash on Sundays, which is odd as they accept card the rest of the week.
The Peshawari Naan was the best I've ever had, but the paneer masala lacked something. The mango lassy was very tasty though
Had one of the best Indian meals in ages. Great service in this family run restaurant.
Would recommend
Really enjoyable meal, kids had a korma, we had a kashmiri rogan josh, some dhal and baby potatoes and it was all amazing. Would go again
I came for a meal before the cinema yesterday with my friend. I would 100% recommend, it’s such a lovely place.
The service is excellent and they are so friendly. The hot towels after the meal are a lovely addition too.
The meal itself was really flavourful. I’m a vegetarian and they have loads of options including the meat mains with a vegetarian alternative; it’s so nice to have plenty to choose from and not miss out. Our meals were delicious and the naan was really fresh.
I would definitely recommend visiting!
It is an amazing restaurant with fantastic staff. Can't wait to go back again.
I had an early dinner there. Service was extra attentive. Food was spot on, spicy and tasty as I like it and, with a view to the Welsh Assembly Building.
Definitely worth a second, third and fourth visit 👍👍👍
Superb hospitality, divine cuisine and the perfect Cardiff Bay location. I took my grandmother here for a superb Saturday lunch. We ordered the beautifully delicate Goan Fish Curry with Swordfish which was the best I've ever had, the Beef Rendang which was beautifully balanced and the meat sublime, along with classic Pakoras and Tikka starters which were outstanding. The waiters and management were genuine and the atmosphere sings of a traditional family run restaurant where every aspect was pure and enjoyable. I highly recommend here for casual dining, family meals and evenings out. We will be back soon, thank you so much for a lovely afternoon.
What an incredible experience, the food was amazing, the staff were fantastic and cocktails were delicious.
Would recommend for a group night out or Date night.
The Food was nice, the taste was also amazing.
Ambience of the restaurant was also beautiful.
Paneer butter masala was tasting good. But, starter plater could have been better in portion size. However, the taste was good. Tandoori Roti was cooked perfectly.
Taste of the food was 80% matching to Indian restaurant in India.
Staff was also good. If I could remember I would have stated the names who served us. But they are well deserved.
Two diners, one vegan, one not. Both catered for. Good food, well prepared. It's worth mentioning that it's cash only on a Sunday. We were warned when we ordered, so no problem. I'm from North West England, so some things were unfamiliar. The poppadoms came already broken into pieces, and there were only three chutneys. Up north we're used to unbroken poppadoms and five chutneys. The other minor quibble was no-one was able to make any of the cocktails on the menu, but again that was because it was a Sunday. Plenty of other options, so not a major problem. A good selection of beers and lagers available.
