Ok…so as I may have mentioned in my ‘about me‘ blurb, this blog is prone to a bit of randomness; and I bet, based on some of the posts, you may have thought it was pretty random anyway! The Octopus Diaries is first and foremost about dining out, however sometimes I come across (yes…ok so I go out of my way to seek out) dining or drinking experiences that I really can’t categorise but have to write about, simply because they are so damn weird, wonderful or uniquely random.
Following three months of closure resulting from a flood back in July, Wales’ only liquid nitrogen ice cream parlour reopened its doors at the beginning of November. So, just as the weather has turned pants, Mrs G and I headed out for a Sunday sundae. Science Cream’s menu changes on a weekly basis with specials including vanilla ice cream topped with honeycomb & a white chocolate Oreo pyramid or dairy free peach ice cream topped with pecan crumble & peach sauce.
Really nice venue, a little small and there can be queues but don’t let that phase you, it is well worth the wait. Ice cream made with liquid nitrogen is different and awesome, combine that with all the other goodies on offer and you are in for a treat!
Came here with my partner of 27th Sept. Carly was our very friendly, very mad scientist. She explained the concept behind this very unique ice cream parlour, which is unlike any I can guarantee you that you have been to before. The set up was great, we loved the science theme. Ice cream with the pudding was out of this world. Carly kindly let us take some pics as well.
Fantastic selection of fresh ice-cream flavours that changes regularly. My favourite so far is the vanilla and caramelised white chocolate with honey comb and raspberry sauce. Friendly staff and occasional sightings of a 3 legged cute dog! A bit pricey, but worth it. Better to have great ice cream slightly less often than average regularly. Only downside is small seating area.
Just insane place. The experience of seeing your ice cream freshly made and the taste are unbeatable. Whatever you choose, you will love it! Prcies are around 5-6£
I love the ice cream here it is so delicious and since they have opened they have improved in the quality and size of their deserts they are just becoming so serious covered in ice cream and sauce and bits. Not cheap but worth it as a treat. Oh did I mention amazing french toast.
Nice little creamery at the Arcade across from the Cardiff castle. The service was quick but their ice cream was ok.
Gorgeous food, powered by science! Staff were very friendly and explained the menu choices easy for us to understand. Fully recommend!
Really amazing ice cream, some of the smoothest you can get in Cardiff. Really interesting rotating menu too with unique tastes and combinations!
An amazing experience and a must visit when you come to Cardiff! Try the caramel and white chocolate flavor
Amazing place for sugar fix, great service and a nice feature of allowing us to watch the ice cream being made!
Science Cream has been a favourite treat of mine for a long time, so my wife and I could not wait to book them for our wedding! Their unique liquid nitrogen ice cream menu and experience made our wedding reception truly special. Carly and her team were just wonderful and provided an amazing service.
The bespoke menu and the experience were incredible and all of our guests loved the ice cream. We have had so many lovely comments about them and could not recommend them enough. Thank you so much for making our special day even more special.
So yummy and fun.
Choose your ice cream then it is made fresh there and then with liquid nitrogen.
I had been wanting to try the ice cream from here for a long time and it certainly didn't disappoint. The honeycomb was absolutely mouth watering but I did find it quite pricey for myself and 3 children to all have an ice cream each. The staff were helpful and looked great in their lab coats.
The staff were amazing. They were genuinely nice informative people. As someone that has travelled the world this is the best ice cream I have ever had, the Salted Caramel with a salted caramel sauce topped off with honeycomb. My husband's vegan option was worth travelling half way round the world for. Who thought vegan could taste so good.
Fantastic little gem hidden in the centre of Cardiff, would recommend all ice cream lovers!
Bit pricy but you can really taste the difference, been here multiple times and never had a bad experience. Staff have always been super friendly
