Nata & Co has serious pastry pedigree – their baker has a family business back in Lisbon which has been dishing out tarts and cakes for decades. Having launched in Cardiff a year ago, this Portuguese bakery has been selling their carbohytreats from a stall at Splott Market and supplying the cafes and delis of the ‘diff too. Now, they’ve opened their own cafe on Clifton Street in Splott.  Their coffee is the robust continental type and their pastries are the shove-them-in-your-cakehole sort. Whilst perched at a stool in the window, I sampled a pillow-soft donut filled with wobbly custard as well as a bobby-dazzling pastel de nata (custard tart) – the layers of flaky pastry cradling more of the caramelised golden good stuff. Wanting to buy ALL the sweet stuff to takeaway, I showed restraint and plumped for a light coconut brioche, a coconut tart, a supremely crisp almond and coffee pastry and a glace fruitcake. Unsurprisingly, everything was lush and at around a pound a pop per pastry, i

Amazing! Hands down the best place to have breakfast/coffee/snack in Cardiff. The owner is a star: great customer service and even better food! Brilliant selection of typical Portuguese and Brazilian treats. I only wish I had taken more photos before jumping into it lol. Highly recommend the “bolinho de bacalhau”, “coxinha”, tostas, pastel de nata e “docinho de Azeitão”!!!

I like the Pastel de Nata that they sell. They are brilliant. The staff are great and nothing is too much trouble. My mother is Portuguese and in poor health so this helps me to reconnect with her too.

Absolutely lovely little Portuguese bakery hidden in one of the busiest streets outside of the city centre. The worst part is probably that you can't try everything at once! It's usually busy, but there's always a friendly atmosphere about the place, and its surprisingly inexpensive for the quality and quantity you get. Well worth a visit if you're nearby, but unlikely there'll be space to sit if that's what you're hoping for. Must try: Cheese and Spinach pasties and a few of the tasty Portuguese tarts!
