Good, honest food and friendly service. There's nothing pretentious about this restaurant from the menu right through to the decor. The food was fresh and flavoursome and there were items not seen in many other menus. We shared a dip and bread and the dolmas. Dip & bread good, dolmas great. For mains we shared a lamb grill which included one mince kebab and one fillet. Both good but I'd go back for the mince one. The other dish was a lovely moist chicken dish, served with a rice with pomegranate and a sauce. All good and ridiculously cheap; all this with 2 soft drinks was £26. Staff lovely as well.
Great atmosphere, decent service, lovely food and best of all, great prices. Looking forward to our next visit.
January always seems to be the hardest month to cobble together restaurants to review on the blog. Mrs G is on a diet and so won’t consider eating anything other than rice cakes, salad and 0% fat Greek yoghurt. Even I’m feeling ashamed of the girth I’ve gained from my winter diet of port and toffifee. It’s for this reason I found myself eating a solo kebab on the walk home from work on Friday night; it's a hard life. Mowlana, a Persian restaurant on the awkwardly located Four Elms Road, was the venue of choice. The kebab – Makhsoos (£12) Meat – One skewer of unfeasibly tender chicken shish, which had been char-grilled to perfection, and a wafer thin lamb fillet. Whilst the lamb was well flavoured, it had cooked so quickly on the grill that it barely had a chance to gain any smoky goodness. Bread – A whopper of a naan (£1) – soft, elastic, crisp and the size of two dinner plates. Salad – A fresh selection of tomato, cucumber and lettuce. A wonderfully smoky, char-grilled tomato stol
If you like Persian food or want to try, then this is the place to go in Cardiff. The lamb mince melts in your mouth. Great find on a quiet street with a few parking spots.
I loved how they served the grilled meat on a silver platter like in the middle east.
Update: been there multiple times and it's consistently great service and delicious
Right around the corner for our stay in Cardiff, we found this restaurant via Google Maps. It was a fantastic surprise. The interior was quiet, beautiful and had an excellent atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, personable and professional. We sampled a lot: hummus with pita bread, lamb, stew, chicken, beef, dolmeh (grape leaf wraps, I believe), doogh (a yogurt drink), mango drink and a Persian-made tea. The portions were very large and everything was delicious. We left with a very positive opinion of the restaurant; one of our best dining experiences in Cardiff.
One of the best Halal Persian restaurants in Cardiff, definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to try out Persian food! The Koobideh was soft and succulent. The atmosphere of the restaurant took us back in time. They have an ornate ancient Persian style seating bed.
Really great local Persian restaurant! Food was delicious and plentiful, we had the mixed grill platter and the babaganoush / fried aubergine dip with pita. Service was outstanding, they’re all really kind. I would definitely come back here.
Amazingly cooked to perfection Koobideh and very warm and friendly staff. I could not fault the chef or restaurant. I recommend the platter for a group and definitely the koobideh! Best Iranian food in Cardiff! I will come again!
First time at Mowlana and was blown away by the quality of food along with generous portions. Excellent service, very kind and attentive. Sea bass and mixed grill were delicious. Highly recommend and we would eat here again when visiting Cardiff!
Very good! My friend recommended me to go there and we have dinner together, I love lamb🤓
Wonderful atmosphere and lovely staff. Delicious food with big protions at a really good price. Highly recommended.
Visited Cardiff recently to go to my pre-pandemic favourite spot for Persian food, the food were lovely and the service is really nice.
The price is still a super deal and we came all the way from London to get one of UK’s best Persian restaurant.
No other place does a Koobideh as good as Mowlana Cardiff. Keep it up!
The owner was so lovely!!!
Out off this part of Cardiff it's really your best bet.
The food is delicious, fresh, special mention for the so so so good baklava.
