Cafe Citta is a TINY little restaurant tucked away and is very inconspicuous. If you didn't do extensive foodie research, you might end up missing it because from the outside it looks unimpressive. However, I highly recommend you make an effort to go because if you're looking for authentic Italian food in Cardiff, Cafe Citta should definitely be on your to-do list! ~ Atmosphere: It's a VERY TINY little restaurant with barely any walking space. The tables are small and cramped so if you are coming with any more than 3 people I highly recommend you make a booking well in advance. However, despite being small the decor is really charming. It felt more like going into someone's living room than an actual restaurant! There were flowers are each table with lovely wooden tables whose table legs were decorated in a very ornate style, and cool paintings on the wall as well! ~ Customer Service: Excellent, couldn't get any better. Not only were the staff friendly, but they were extremely attentive as well and kept ensuring that our table was nicely cleared without us even having to say anything! ~ Food: The food was excellent. As a starter we had the Caprese which was fresh buffalo mozzarella with a lovely sauce and fresh tomatoes. The mozzarella was terrific and really tasted very fresh. We also ordered the Polenta al Ragu and the bolognese sauce that accompanied the polenta was fantastic! For a main, I ordered the Pollo alla Romana which was a whole chicken breast cooked with sage, parma ham, and a side of potatoes and salad. We also had a garlic pizza to share. They gave us chilli oil and parmesan on the side for extra seasoning. Everything was great! I'm normally not too enthusiastic about ordering chicken breast at a restaurant but it was extremely juicy - I didn't know chicken breast could be that tender! There were great flavours all around. The only negative is that I recommend you pass on the garlic pizza. It was pretty bland and needed a heft amount of chilli oil and parmesan to save it. --- Overall, I highly recommend Cafe Citta. Next time, I would try one of their pasta dishes as my partner raved about his Tagliatelle Carbonara!

I was at Cardiff on a work trip from New York and stumbled upon this little gem of an Italian wine bar. Super cute and a lovely warm ambience as well. Outstanding food (better than a lot of places in NYC) and excellent service as well :)

Family business. Cosy place, always busy. They squeeze us near the entrance. Friendly staff.Delicious light Ricotta pizza. Tasty pasta ( not salty). I order another pasta to take home. All cost £39 . Highly recommended. I will try to visit it again to try other dishes. I

Book in advance. This is a very intimate space and an unassuming little restaurant in the heart of Cardiff . It also happens to be home to some of the most scrummy pasta and pizzas I've ever tasted. Seeking solace from the rain, early evening on a Wednesday we gave this place a punt and asked for a table for 2. The place was already very busy, but the waitress said she could fit us in for an hour. We got sat at the back by the smallest kitchen I've seen outside of a Yo Sushi in train stations. And oh the smells that came from that tiny kitchen were yummy. The whole menu looked great and reasonably priced for the city centre. The Mrs went for a ricotta and rocket pizza and I went for a prawn taglitelli with white wine and chilli sauce. It's always a good sign that they leave you with the pot of parmasan! It was gorgeous! Rich, creamy with a nice kick of heat. Again - checking out what the other eaters were having everything looked classic. Good potions good colour and mouth watering aromas. All washed down with the house red, which was also surprisingly yummy we were in and out within the hour, but could imagine coming here with a good group of friends and wiling away the evening with starters and gelato after! Get a few friends, get yourself to Cardiff centre and get on this authentic Italian.

We visited Cardiff from London and were hungry, so we decided to try yelp. Not sure about doing Italian in Wales but this place is wonderful. It seems family run (is that Mamma and Papa in the open kitchen?). Not sure but the food is clearly home cooked and just terrific. We ordered only from the specials which were presented to us on a blackboard and had broccoli and sausage for appetizer, a pizza with ham and cheese and rocket as well as a swordfish with a delicious caper anchovy vegetable topping and roasted potatoes for a main. Every dish was terrific, the waiting staff polite and to top it all of they played Elephant Revival on the stereo. Highly recommended.

Lovely place with a wonderful athmosphere. It is a small italian cafe, which offers remarkable service and quality of the meals. I have enjoyed my sword-fish steak, it was very well cooked. Highly recommended if you are looking for an intimate place with great food.

My oldest boy and I stopped at Cafe Citta after a trip to Cardiff Castle as tourists (from the US). We were really really happy with the meal we had, and that says a lot. My son has Aspergers and is very serious about his meals --- he refuses to eat anything that is even remotely different for him, but he enjoyed his meal at Cafe Citta. The space is very small and the atmosphere is a bit crowded, but the food more than makes up for what the space lacks. We did not find the service to be anything but awesome, and if we're ever back in Cardiff we'll definitely stop by.

I was in Cardiff on business and unfortunately, I tried this place on one of my last days in the UK, I wish I would have discovered it sooner. The restaurant was small, so unless you want to wait, I'd suggest trying to make reservations. The size of the restaurant actually added to its charm. The small size meant that you received very good service and it felt like you and your meal were really important. I can honestly say that I have never had a better Italian meal in my life. Every single thing that I ate at Cafe Citta was exceptional. My husband felt the same. He got to join me on my last leg of my business trip. His favorite dessert is tiramisu and he is very picky about it. He said that he has never had better tiramisu in his life. With all that being said, please go try this little gem of a restaurant. You won't be disappointed!

Tiny spot with about a dozen tables and an even smaller kitchen. Still, incredible food, service and ambiance. Felt very kind and warm. The pizza was delicious and so was the affogato. I'd love to return to try a pasta dish.

we loved our meal here, its a cosy restaurant, with an open kitchen. The food is divine, piping hot, tasty and plenty of it. The service is good too and so friendly. I would definitely recommend a visit. Three of us chose off the specials menu on the recommendation of a couple next to us who frequent the restaurant often and all of us were really happy with what we chose.

Visited here last night after hearing many, many strong recommendations and they absolutely did not disappoint! A small, charming Italian in the city centre, Cafe Citta offers some of the best Italian cuisine in Cardiff, and certainly the best in the city centre. With my Italian colleagues saying it is one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in Cardiff, I can see why. A delightfully fresh, and balanced flavour to every dish, Cafe Citta offers fantastic food where there is ample evidence of the freshly prepared nature of the food. Being such a small restaurant, I would definitely recommend booking in advance. Also, customers with mobility issues may wish to discuss with the restaurant ahead of time whether there is seating in some of the more spacious areas available. Definitely another strong recommendation from me!
