Lovely traditional pub (the oldest one in the city to be more accurate). Feels very homely and I always feel very safe there. The owner goes out of his way to be friendly and lots of things happening, from the free to enter weekly pub quiz, (currently on Wednesdays) to darts, open mic and board game nights. Often quiet as it gets overlooked due to being slightly out of the centre, but worth the 5 min walk. Excellent food and all at reasonable prices.
Amazing pub, with a very welcoming atmosphere.
Having visited several times, I have been able to sample a selection of the food from the kitchen and am always impressed with the quality and value for money.
Mark the landlord is friendly and welcoming. If you get a chance do pop into the kings head for a drink, chat and some good food, you won't be disappointed.
Lovely traditional pub serving a good selection of cask ales. Very friendly staff, especially Helen, who served us up a fantastic Sunday roast. As it's my local now, I can comfortably recommend this particular pub to anyone who happens to be in the area and to try out the food as it's the best I've tried in and around Canterbury. Edit...12/07/22. Closed briefly for circumstances beyond their control.
I've been to this pub more than any others in Canterbury because the staff are amazing! The owner makes you feel right at home and they have a stunning backyard/patio area. My favorite place to get a drink with friends.
Great, welcoming environment and the food is amazing. There's a great range of things you could have so you wouldn't find yourself short of choice. The bar staff and chef are very friendly and if you have any problems they are very quick to assist. AMAZING!
10/10 customer service and food. But talking about the food the curries there are amazing. They taste good, they look good, they are great and I would recommend anyone to stop by and try some!
If you meet the chef he is always happy and makes quick friends with customers and generally he is a very nice person!
Food and drink here is top tier, would go again!
We called at the last minute and Mark was able to get us a room. He was very flexible and very helpful. Same goes for the cook Nathan, just ask and he will be happy to oblige. We ended up having a great time, meeting new people, discovering local culture and games. We will definitely go back.
We stayed for 1 night. Great night. Friendly staff. Clean warm room. Slightly tired but nice. Excellent breakfast even the veggie order. Will see you all soon xx
Country pub in town with a great range of beer. Lovely staff make you feel really welcomed. Good decor and well-run pub.
Great atmosphere and selection of drinks. Local pub with real locals in there. Highlight is the bar billiards table which is great fun and you don't see many of them any more.
We loved the charm of our little room, the crisp white linen, the tiny but adequate ensuite, the view out the window of a busy wine shop and chippy, a full English breakfast, the convenient location, the friendly bar, and the ever present feeling of the history attached to this very old building.
Very nice place with some decent times but definitely need to go with a group and be prepared for a high charge on drinks, the company you bring determines the fun you'll have
A marvelously vintage public house, serving freshly cooked food a specified times with some excellent selections on tap and draught. There is a bat and trap green in the well presented garden along with a billiards table and on occasions with the most wonderfully hand crafted candles available to purchase.
Best pub in Canterbury, lots of wood and horse brass, traditional English style dinner menus in Gothic font. Dog friendly.
A very welcoming English Pub and the regulars very friendly. Landlord excellent bar staff five ***** to them. Recommend this pub Even though we were visitors from Perth Australia.. πππ
Great place to drink, play bat and trap and watch FA cup final on a sunny Saturday π
When myself and my partner arrived in Canterbury staying at a near by Bed and Breakfast we did our usual thing hunt for a local Pub as our local watering hole . We went into the Kings Head at Wincheap and found just what we wanted a local pub with friendly Staff and customers. The landlord Mark was more than accommodating and made us feel very welcome keeping us informed of any special meal nights ie the Friday fish and chip night cooked with beer batter !!! wow that was really good a must try and the nights we ate there all meals cooked to a high standard with the new chef jumping through hoops to please .. The beer selection was ok with some hand pump beers but I opted for my staple Guinness which was served perfectly by all the bar staff .so all in all you get what you pay for it is an old pub that is its charm its not a modern hyper polished teen magnet noise centre but if you want a good pub good food good beer you have it go in sit down and enjoy ..
