We visited the Orator for lunch yesterday and it was an amazing experience. My constant complaint about Cambridge is the lack of decent pet friendly restaurants which we have plenty of in Oxford (don't understand the reason why Cambridge restaurants are so hostile towards dogs) but The Orator was brilliant as we could take the pup in with us. The seating was plenty and the staff were very friendly. The facilities were clean and we were able to freshen up before lunch as we had a long day. We ordered a mix of dishes including burgers, chicken and pork on pita, sardines and vegetable sides which all came out quick. The overall cost was decent for a group of 5 and we had a good time. Highly recommended!

What a lovely place in the heart of Cambridge, can't believe I only just found out about it. We came in for dinner on a Friday night. The food was delicious and the prices were very competitive too. Charming building and absolutely beautiful garden. We ate inside and it was a bit stuffy on a hot summers day as there was no air conditioning. But we then continued with a few drinks outside in the garden and it was lovely. The only down point I will mention is the service outside - there were loads of tables with mountains of empty glasses on them and they weren't being taken away by the staff at all. We waited for a table to be cleaned but never got any service. We had to move the empty glasses ourselves and wipe the table down with wet wipes as it was very sticky.

We’ve got 2 favourite bars in Cambridge. The Orator is one of them! Nice chaps, and great cocktails they do. 10/10 for staff 10/10 for drinks 10/10 for prices! Purely love the outside area, especially when sunny. I normally don’t drink cocktails, but this time I’ve tried Point of Contention and I can say for my personal taste was great!

Dined here today on a visit to Cambridge, the staff were incredible, so attentive and friendly, they all handled my allergies amazingly, the chef came out and spoke through what they could produce for me and even suggested making something off of the menu so that I could eat, in the end they created a combination of two meals to make it suitable for my dairy, nut, and seed allergy! Felt so safe and looked after here when eating out is usually a stressful experience for me. Will 100% be visiting again when I’m next in Cambridge and recommend to anyone, especially those with allergies as the chef was amazing! Also cocktails were delicious, nice and sharp unlike some overly sweet ones you get these days, price point was great for the quality of the produce - made our day 😊

Stopped for a quick drink and sharing platter (x3 dips with flatbread) and loved it. Fantastic cocktails but only a few non-alcoholic (non-cocktail variety) drinks available. Building and location are stunning and a great beer garden. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Just grabbed a quick beer here on a Wednesday night, but my friend and I loved the friendly service and the live music - which was chilled enough not to overpower the conversation - as well as the super-atmospheric outdoor area. We'll be back!

Whether I’m meeting a friend for a visit and cocktail or a splendid meal The Orator does not disappoint. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere and excellent service will always make a bright spot in my day. The Trout Coley that I enjoyed last evening was prepared and cooked to perfection and the attention to detail was impressive. An entirely memorable experience.

I passed by by chance during a business trip. Really happy to have stopped at this address! The cook "Aurlian" took the time to come and discuss his very good cooking. Not to mention "Calvin" who was able to advise me on dish/wine pairings. Amazing ! Address not to be missed!

We hired the private room at the Orator for a birthday bash. We started with cocktails in the main bar area and then came into the dinning room for dinner. Some of the food timing could have been a bit better, but that did not detract from the night. The staff were very helpful and the evening was well orchestrated overall and enjoyable. People complimented the food - the ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and very tender. A huge thanks to the staff who made sure we were taken care of! Highly recommend for a lovely evening.

This is a hidden Cambridge gem that has a great atmosphere and a small but well formed menu. The bistro redevelopment had been done brilliantly well and the food standard is worthy of this lovely venue. Great garden space as well.

On Tuesday evening, the three of us decided to visit the Orator for dinner for the first time, and I’m so glad we did. Our food - including pigeon starter, superbly tender and tasty beef bourginon, and coley - was outstanding. It was also very reasonably priced. With an interesting, quirky and comfortable atmosphere and friendly and attentive staff, the Orator will be a regular for us from now on.

Calm and sophisticated. (Or is it just that the clientel and location clearly are?) Lots of photos of famous visitors/speakers. A little disappointed with the menu in that there could have been more vegan/plant-based options (no vegan burger, for example) plus a wider choice generally. It seems like quite a big enterprise so I would have hoped for more. Perhaps it's more of a wine-bar than restaurant? That said, it was a lovely environment with tasty food. Disappointed that there was no speaker while we were there. Could they have past speakers being rerun on a TV in one corner/separate room? Or is that tacky??
