Reviews Town And Gown Pub & Theatre

Town and Gown is a large, beautifully designed downtown pub in Cambridge. The spacious interior covers two levels (a second bar and the loos are on the upper level), and the décor is rather spectacular, certainly the most beautiful I've seen in the city centre. The outside seating area to the front is rather small by comparison. A limited cask selection is augmented by plenty of kegged beers. The loos are modern and clean. Prices aren't exactly low, but they aren't anywhere else in the area either. Really a place you have to visit in Cambridge when you're tired from visiting all those colleges.

Brilliant Mcmullens pub/theatre/events venue. A quite new opening (2020) converted from a bar and before that an arts cinema. Has that unique theatre bar feel. Full range of Mcmullens beers etc. Lots of varied seating spaces and levels. Love the shuffle puck table, spent an hour playing on it a big plus for the pub. 👍 from Matty x

We stopped by for a quick drink to shelter from the rain. There's nice and cosy seating downstairs, and the bar looks great. The cocktails were nice

Visited plenty of times for drinks and a few times for food. Service is quick at the bar, it's unclear when drinks are brought to the table and when one should wait for them at the bar, it's inconsistent (for hot drinks). Either way the staff are very friendly and get the job done. Food is OK, takes a bit of time to get out to you. Toilets are on the first floor and the interior Deco is pretty impressive. Probably won't go back for food but generally the experience is good.

We hired the upstairs bar, theatre and terrace area of the Town & Gown for the evening reception for about 100 people following our wedding in Cambridge. It was an absolutely excellent choice and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic events space with decent capacity right in the centre of Cambridge. The space itself was fantastic: we were able to set the theatre up with a dance floor and space for a live band to perform, which with the theatre lighting created a proper party atmosphere. The bar and terrace provided much more chilled spaces for guests to hang out and chat. The service we received was first-rate. In advance of the booking Harley, who was responsible for the event, went out of his way to ensure it would be exactly as we wanted it. He really could not have been more helpful. This included arranging for the theatre lighting to be configured as we wanted it, helping to set up and run a projector slideshow of photos in the bar area, and even arranging for the bar's Pride flags to be flying outside on the day of our event. On the night the service was friendly and super efficient. We had been worried there would be queues for drinks at the bar but it all ran incredibly smoothly. All in all we were delighted with the experience.

The place seems beautiful! Drinks are quite good but I still haven't tried food there. By skimming through the menu though I can tell that it offers some interesting choices.

Visited during the day on a Sunday and it was very quiet. Didn't eat but good selection of beer and the Rivertown Pilsner was spot on. I loved the way this place is designed mainly plus there's a free shuffleboard which is good fun and a good thing to get people chatting to each other. Probably my favourite pub in Cambridge during my weekend visit, taking in about 15 pubs.

Great atmosphere! My wife and I had a great evening at The Town and Gown. The food and cocktails were great quality and a generous size too. The staff were really friendly and the vibe of this unique place was relaxed but fun. The fun element was enhanced by the show we saw - absolutely hilarious. I love the combination of being able to eat, drink and be merrily entertained by a fringe-type show. I look forward to spending more evenings h=there

Firstly, the mixed drinks are a 5 or 6 star. The mojito and the Long Island were great. The food we tried to order was not available and the items we eventually ordered were ok, but lacked a lot of flavour.

Was very quiet when I visited as it was a Friday lunch time. Asked server for a few extra minutes to decide on order, though she didn't return so eventually ordered at the bar but no big deal. Food was quick, I assume as it was quiet, couldn't fault it- I have a club sandwich which was delicious. The only real moan is how squished the booth was, anyone with legs longer than a child will struggle! But I would happily return.

Very Impressed with this new pub in the old Arts Cinema in Cambridge. Good table service. Tasty food with very generous portions. Good selection of ales and comfortable surroundings. All at very reasonable prices for the city centre.

Really good place to eat and drink with buzzing atmosphere. Pre-show 2 course menu is perfect with no reduction in the size of your meal. Loved the Korean burger and Aspalls

It is a really big, clean, thematic and hidden place to go and have a drink in Cambridge. They have many Coctails, beers and a different main dishes x we tried the fish and chips and it was really nice

The quality of the food is good, the food choice ranges across classic pub food with some vegetarian options. The Roasted vegetable salad could do with some dressing but other than that very tasty. The key attraction here is the combination of pub and music & theatre. I have yet to see any shows but the lineup looks promising. Great interior and atmosphere inside. There is also outdoor seating in a narrow passage.
