We went past this place a few weeks ago, and looking in the window, it looked like a really cosy place, so we booked and went there last night.
The first thing to say is the staff are super friendly and really knowledgeable about their wines.
Our lovely waitress (with the delightful name of Treasure) brought us a number of wines to taste so we could make our selection. We chose a full-bodied, Spanish red, which we loved.
The only thing we were a little disappointed with was our food choices.
We chose the borek and the mackerel pate small plates.
We were advised that the borek was quite substantial, but the pastry was quite heavy (flaky pastry would have been better), and the potatoes overpowered the feta and spinach a bit too much.
The mackerel pate was better, but we didn't like the radishes too much, and the thick brown bread it was served on was too sweet.
We then decided on the meat platter and chose 3 different ones. Be aware that this is charcuterie, which wasn't made clear on the menu.
I hope the above is helpful feedback and not too critical.
It's a great place to go for an evening to enjoy wine and some food.
I attended a wine tasting about Jura but before that I had a glass of wine while waiting for the class to start. The waiter was very polite, friendly and professional. I like that he kindly offers clients if they want to have a small taste before committing to a full glass of a wine.
The Sommelier Gonzalo (I hope I'm writing his name correctly) doing the class was so good! I really enjoyed that he spent time going through the history, geography, type etc. of each wine. I finally have found a wine tasting at a level that I like. To me has been the best wine event I have ever attended in Cambridge. He was never bothered about all my questions, I felt like I learned a lot at this event. Just a recommendation: If you are going to the wine tasting make sure you eat before going as there are some nibbles to taste with the wine but not enough to fill up your stomach :)
Absolutely recommended!
Yet another great night at the Wine Rooms. The staff are always so warm and friendly. Tonight we were looked after by Levina who let us try some beautiful reds and made some great recommendations. Lovely date night.
The Wine Rooms was a delightful experience for all the senses. Located just opposite one of the Botanical Gardens entrances (on Hills Road), a short walk from the City Cente or the Train Station and very easy to find.
On arrival the staff were all very welcoming and greeted us with a smile. The interior design was a talking point for our group, it was clearly well thought out and the theme of the nearby gardens is reflected beautifully. The menus weren't intimadating but still had fantastic variety. We wanted to try everything!
We asked the staff for their suggestions and they were happy to share their expertise and experiences with us and were extremely helpful in providing us drink and food that was perfectly matched to our individual palates. Everything we had was delicious and fantastic value for money. A must visit!
We had a lovely evening in The Wine Rooms. The staff were very patient and extremely knowledgeable about the wines as we tried to decide what to order. The wines themselves were excellent and the food was great too. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the whole experience was perfect for our evening of celebration.
