The Castle is a good Cambridge pub with an excellent selection of beers, reasonable food and friendly service. The beers on tap are from Adnams, the Southwold brewery. They have tables in the rear garden which makes for a good setting when the weather obliges. For those of us that like beer, drinking a pint of Southwold bitter in the garden on a warm summers day is a perfect pastime.

On recommendation of a friend who used to study at Cambridge and lived nearby, my husband and I were excited for a different selection of beers on tap (rather than the usual Greene King). We tried some darker Adnam's porter on tap and were very happy for something a bit more rich than the usual pub ale. We were surprised to see a ton of food available on chalkboard menus, all made in house. This was just an afternoon snack for us, so we split a Bacon, Brie and Mushroom Bap, but it was amazing with a seemingly freshly baked wheat bun, fresh crisp lettuce, melty cheese, hearty mushroom and crispy bacon - a large portion and super cheap for under four pounds. The size of the pub is much larger than the other cozy ones we've visited like the Elm Tree and Free Press, with different rooms and multiple stalls for restrooms, but still achieved a feeling of coziness within each room. Would return if we had more time on our trip!

Wow! This is my favorite afternoon/night spot in all of Cambridge! The owners and staff have created a gorgeous space perfect for relaxing and entertaining. The selection of beers is top notch and the pints are graciously poured at all hours to perfection. The beer garden area is beautiful- especially right now in the summer! I cannot recommend the pints, food, and cozy space enough! Put this place on your MUST see today!

The Castle is a large pub serving lots of good ales and food. Broadside on tap along with a changing selection of guest beers. Food wise, the Castle Burger is a favorite of mine and it never fails to deliver. Also good is the lasagna and the Indian Burger. In fact, its all very tasty. The inside is well decorated and very traditional. It can also fit in a lot of people and you can reserve out the upstairs. It also has a large outside area that is amazing in the summer - lots of room to hangout with your mates. I would dock this a star for being a little pricey, but I can't because I always have a great time in this pub. It is docked 1 however for having a lack of cohesive bar staff - it appears to be a lot of students and I get the feeling that there isn't a lot of customer service past clearing the bar of people waiting.

The Castle Inn is a lovely pub close to the historic town centre of Cambridge. It's an Adnams pub, as the other reviews have mentioned, but while they do stock a big range of Adnams ales (including most of the seasonal options) they usually have a couple of guest beers on too. With only one smallish bar for quite a large pub, there is sometimes a bit of a wait for service, but this has never been a big issue when I've visited. Sometimes they also do a special beer tasting offer, where you can get three thirds of a pint of three different ales to try for a special price, which is good fun. The atmosphere is lively but cosy and quite rustic, with plenty of comfortable nooks and crannies to settle into. Old-fashioned wooden furniture, a beamed ceiling upstairs, and black and white photographs on the walls give the place a classic old country pub feel - it really is such a pleasure to spend whole evenings here eating, drinking, and chatting with mates in a corner. The food is an extensive range of classic pub fare done well, with a roast on Sundays and a good range of vegetarian options including veggie burgers, soups, sandwiches and baked potatoes - the spinach and lentil burger is particularly good. There is also usually a curry and plenty of hearty meaty dishes. The Castle really is the best place in the centre of Cambridge to go for a pub lunch and a crisp pint in the summer (in the sunny courtyard garden) or a proper porter enjoyed slowly on a long winter's night.

Good real ale specialist pub, but only ever seem to stock blonde and brown beers, never any mild, stout or porter.

The Castle is a brilliant pub. Its situated just north of the centre of town up Castle Hill (its the steepest in the town nb not steep at all - but watching the cyclist struggle up it is enough to make the trip worth it!) Its a great place for a cheeky pub lunch. Not that I'm a big fan of the drink myself, but they offer a variety of real ales which are pretty popular (its an adnams pub). There is a courtyard garden out the back for a summer's afternoon boozing. Inside the seating is a mish-mash of old wooden pews, benches and mismatched chairs. There are lots of interesting pictures on the wall too of random old bits of Cambridge and english gents. Food-wise its standard fare (although the breadth of the offering is pretty staggering catering for all tastes and price ranges) with the exception of the world famous Castle Burger (this includes huge beef burgers, stilton and a bit of pineapple(!). Staff are friendly and service is pretty fast. All in all a great place.

I like this pub! It's got a really good atmosphere - a good mix of 'Town and Gown'. The accommodation is varied - from pews to comfy seats to outdoor seating. Lots of little nooks too, so that it feels cosy. The staff are friendly and serve quickly so there's not long to wait, even when the pub's busy. It always has a good choice of real ales, including Timothy Taylor's Landlord. And the food is really good pub grub, and not expensive. The Chilli con Carne is particularly good.

We have always enjoyed visits to the Castle. Most recently we popped in for lunch on a Sunday. I am not always the biggest fan of a roast in a pub, but saw someone else having it and it looked great, so we ordered the same. There was a great variety of veg, the meat was good, nice Yorkie and potatoes. They have a decent beer range from Adnams and I thought the prices were reasonable for Cambridge. The lady running the place was very friendly and efficient which is lovely to see.

This pub is quite popular among the locals. I highly recommend trying their sweet potato dirty fries; they are incredibly delicious. Both the cider and beer are also tasty options.

On a hot summers night we met as a very large group in the beer garden. Ordered food and wine on line and behold it came out quickly. Well run and great choice of ales and lagers

I cannot compliment the staff here enough. We were on a school trip today and visited the castle hill. They let our children use the toilets and refilled loads of water bottles for us. So kind and helpful. We will be coming back for a visit to the pub to enjoy the food very soon.

Nice pub. I first visited a year ago and it was just as good this time. The beer garden at the back was nice and we had lovely falafel wrap and a great beer (as I would expect for an Adnans pub)

Great beer selection, pub grub, spacious for large groups and quiet social drinks alike. Service is usually slow whether it’s busy or quiet, but no big deal unless you are in a rush.

Superb Adnams beer choices and lovely pub inside, big upstairs, and nice beer garden. Food a bit limited, only burgers or nachos when I went.

As a fan of German beers the draft Benediktner and Köstritzer albeit somewhat pricey are the best points of the pub for me, as well as the multi-level beer garden when it's warm enough, and the variety of different spaces available. The book swap shelf is also a nice touch. I do wish it wasn't so food-focused, and I recommend avoiding peak eating hours when it tends to be overcrowded and have a somewhat overpowering food aroma.

I did not eat but drank a few beers, all Adnams, they used to have guest beers years ago.

Really friendly staff who didnt mind my slightly over excitable puppy, made sure to offer water for him without me asking. Truly a dog friendly venue. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I didn't try the food, but will remedy that on my next visit. Also slightly off the tourist routes so no annoying over inflated prices that you find vloser to the centre of town.
