First time to this spot in Cambridge and will most definitely be back. Really enjoyed the vibe and the food was amazing. Tried both the wine flight and the soda flight-highly recommend.
Thanks for a lovely date night, Vanderlyle.
A seasonal, vegetarian menu that never fails to impress. Incredible creativity with every dish, and it’s always absolutely delicious. I also love that you can watch the chefs work, the staff are extremely knowledgable about the menu, and the atmosphere is lovely.
I’ll be thinking about those bread and butter pudding bites for the rest of my life!
Very enjoyable dinner at Vanderlyle. Well worth the effort required to get a reservation.
Every course was unique and tasty. Salsify was the standout as well as the delicious tomatoes that were allowed to carry themselves. The menu as a whole left me satisfied with each dish and craving the next.
Service was welcoming happy to accommodate any requests or leave to enjoy the meal.
Highly recommended.
I visited Vanderlyle for dinner with a 9 year old. We waited for about 3 weeks for our reservation as it is very popular. I really liked the idea of a creative and friendly vegetarian cuisine with the focus on local vegetables and I am hoping to be back again to experience its other seasonal menus. We both really enjoyed the experience overall, the food was very good as well as the overall design (open kitchen, nice pottery). Petit fours were amazing as well as the cavolo nero confit and the cashew parfait.
What would make the experience a perfect 5 star in my mind would be just a little more flexibility on the size of the meal. We are good eaters, but when we got to stage 6 of the menu, we simply couldn't finish the relatively large mushroom pie and we've seen similar status in the neighboring tables progress. For the drinks pairings, it's also either all or none. Having smaller menu sets with the possibility to order more if needed without changing the overall dishes prepared would make it feel less wasteful and more affordable too for the times when the novelty that allows for the high prices fades.
Party of four to celebrate a birthday - food was exceptional. As a meat eater, found myself not even pining for any meat in the dishes - all dishes had a savoury moreish quality. Drink pairing was well executed and evidently thought through to great detail. To top it off, a lovely birthday card signed by all staff members on the table was a lovely touch and thoughtful gesture. Highly recommended.
I was lucky enough to be treated to dinner for my birthday last week, by my sister and best friend. We all had the most wonderful evening with absolutely exquisite food. Thank you for a truly beautiful, flavourful meal. Every course was just lovely. My ultimate best meal out ever. Caroline xx
Well worth persevering with the table booking system! The food was exceptional, service impeccable, and the decor was elegantly understated.
I am desperate to go back, but arranging friends availability and being online at the right time when tables are released can be quite a challenge.
Back to one of our favourite restaurants; well worth the trek to Cambridge. Tonight (Friday) was best menu so far at the Vanderlyle and certainly a highlight of the year. Anyone who can produce a Strawberry Ragu as a main and Courgette ‘sweet’, which dances on the mouth, surely deserves a Michelin Star…. And we were back at the Kitchen Table….!
The Mac and cheese was phenomenal. It was creamy and full of flavor. The corn bread was super unique, coming from the states it was like no other corn bread I’ve had before. It actually had notes of peanuts in it which I thought was super unique. Also the sauces were delicious. I attribute a restaurant with excellent homemade sauces as one that truly knows how to combine flavors because a perfect combination of dish and sauce is very difficult to achieve. The complementary notes of this dish was excellent and they gave a unique twist on a staple dish. Very impressed particularly their response in light of the pandemic. Well done!
Wonderful introduction to the Cambridge culinary scene at Vanderlyle for their May menu.
The care, love and attention that goes into creating the best seasonal plant-led dishes makes Vanderlyle a real gem. With sustainability and local produce at its core, the quality of the ingredients and meticulous research that goes into the creative process, delivers an astonishing balance for the palate, and beautifully orchestrated symphony for the senses.
We tried both the soft and alcoholic pairing and were impressed by the successful attempt to recreate a matching experience for anyone, drinkers and non.
Hard to choose a favourite dish as the menu was an enthralling experience overall but, being someone regularly disappointed by petit fours, we got to applaude Vanderlyle’s utterly glorious dark chocolate truffles with porcini mushrooms and truffle based macaroons 🤤
We also valued the use of a locally sourced ivy honey in both drinks and dishes.
Well worth a trip to Cambridge for a gorgeous lunch! Well done to chefs Alex Rushmer and Lawrence Butler & team 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I really want to give this place 5 stars: the creativity, passion, and flair on display is incredibly impressive.
For me personally, it was probably the best vegetarian meal I've ever had. The wine list was unconventional and the pairings were superb. But I couldn't help but feel that, for someone with a relatively closed mind, the food/wine would come off as a bit boring.
Vanderlyle is technically accomplished and unpretentious. It's not your traditional fine dining restaurant. Meat eaters, if you go in with your expectations in check, then I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy the experience.
#### review based on a takeaway meal for 2.
I ordered meals for 2, but it looked like a meal for one and may be costly given the amount as far as I felt. I also wish I could confirm where each ingredient came from as the restaurant states their connection with farms.
While I have subtracted one star for those reasons, all the items were so impressive, diverse in ingredients, well designed for a combination of dishes, and amazingly delicious in the end... All look healthy, too.
I would like to visit the restaurant and enjoy meals at the site when it reopens.
Stunning food as always, deserves a Michelin star!
Visited Vaderlyle with my boyfriend (who is a bit of a foodie) and we loved it! We were a little shocked at the the fact the entire menu was vegetarian, but this just meant it was even more special. The food was incredible and the alcohol pairing was good value and also worked fantastically. We were particularly pleased with the seasonal salad, which has 27 seasonal ingredients. The restaurant was also very small and cosy and personalised, the head chef himself made sure he served every table at least on of the courses. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves food that pushes boundaries and is sustainable and seasonal.
Great food with a lot of thought and care put into each menu. Have been twice for two different menus and although winter 2022 was our favourite, both were amazing. Lovely venue and they accommodated one of us who was vegan too!
Cannot recommend this place enough. This is one of the places my wife and I miss most about Cambridge. Great food, great wine, and always innovative. Beware, if you eat all your food you will leave stuffed!
We've had take out a few times now and it's always excellent. Staff are friendly and responsive too, when I've given feedback or asked for drive pairing suggestions. Food is easy to heat and plate up at home, and really delicious.
Absolutely phenomenal food, and I say this as an enthusiastic meat eater. Genuinely some of the most inventive, clever and above all delicious food I have had in my life. The team excelled themselves.
Stunning just stunning. The best value meal in Cambridge. Excellent local ingredients cooked sympathetically, well done Alex and team
