We have been waiting with baited breath to visit since we booked in October. As it was my birthday we were suitably excited and couldn't have been happier. From the first welcome to the final goodbye every member of staff was so friendly that I felt completely at home - a fantastic atmosphere considering it's status.
In terms of the food every course and amuse bouche blew us away. The attention to detail and flavour combinations were incredible. Quite simply the best meal I've ever eaten. I just need to work out when we can come back
We had the 8 course lunch today and it was sublime. The food was out of this world in terms of flavour and presentation - honestly. The service was outstanding. We had a really wonderful time, thank you. A real treat which we would thoroughly recommend for anyone looking for a really special place to dine.
We had an absolutely fabulous meal including champagne. It was a marvellous experience which I can recommend as often as you can afford it - treat yourself - you're worth it! The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional - thank you all xx
Faultless visit to Midsummer House to celebrate my wife's birthday and our anniversary (same day). The food was immaculately presented and tasted fantastic. The real winner for me was the service. Everybody was so friendly but without a hint of fuss and quite down to earth. The real icing on the cake was the staff arranging for my wife to meet Head Chef Mark Abbott. She is a big fan and this really made her experience something special. I cannot thank the staff enough for making our night so special.
Yesterday was my 3rd visit to Midsummer House and by far the most enjoyable. We were a large group celebrating two 60th birthdays and were lucky enough to be in the private area which meant we could all chat comfortably. The food was as impeccable as ever; taste revolutions that left me in awe of the chefs. What made this trip extra special was the service. The staff were friendly and well informed, creating a relaxed environment for us all. What really stood out to me was how welcoming and accommodating they were to my 3 year old niece, including knocking up a special pasta dish for her and not batting an eyelid when she was playing games trying to find her toys hidden around the room. She devoured her pudding with true delight and was even treated to extra popping candy. She is clearly a foodie in the making. Thank you to all the staff for a truly wonderful afternoon.
We were treated to an amazing 8 course meal by our friends for their 30th wedding anniversary. Every beautifully presented & delicious course was matched by wonderful selection of wine. It was a true culinary experience to die for. The service was also fantastic. I will definitely recommend and hope to return.
We visited here for the first time today for the 5 course lunch menu. Everything was superb...the friendly welcome and excellent service, the stunning food and flavours and ambience of the restaurant. Would love to return again one day and would highly recommend to others for a special occasion meal. Thank you Midsummer House!
What a fantastic evening for my daughter's 21st and my 60th birthday. The staff, the ambience and not least the 8 course tasting menu were sublime. First class fine dining. The beetroot, goat cheese and summer truffle was to die for.
My husband took me here last night as an early Valentines present. I have been wanting to book for a while and I wasn't disappointed. From the moment we arrived (which was slightly early) we were looked after by friendly, informative and attentative staff. They were all very professionals but also happy to have a laugh which made a relaxing atmosphere. The eight course meal was wonderful and the flavours superb. The one course with the staged table magic added that little bit more to the evening. I have been to quite a few well known chefs restaurants, it's a bit of a hobby and Midsummer House is definitely in my top 3. The only fault was there were two changes to the courses on the sample menu that we were given which was not explained at the beginning of the meal. Other than this small detail it was a great evening.
Incredible lunch on Saturday, amazing service, delicious food and wine we can't wait to return. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic place...food is like nothing Iv ever had before and is so well prepared and well thought out! Daniel is such a nice guy and all the staff are fabulous! Thank you for a memorable evening!
Myself and a close friend, who both have companies in the food industry had an amazing lunch yesterday....the food was fabulous and the staff/service was spot on.....I am now planning to book the private dining room in the New Year......cant wait......

I booked for my partners 40th today and it was perfect. The staff and food were faultless. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, the restaurant was intimate and yet spacious and the service was impeccable from the second we walked through the door. This won't be our last visit. Thank you all for making today so wonderful.
I went with high expectations and they were surpassed. Fabulous food, friendly and knowledgeable front of house staff. The feeling of being spoilt without it being intrusive. Will definitely go again!
We went as a birthday treat for my other half. It was brilliant from start to end, great decor, attentive staff and amazing food! The service was just right and the food lived up to expectations and even more. Can not wait to go back.
Absolutely fabulous. I can not eat gluten, dairy, egg or tree nuts. Eating out can be a disaster but not here. 8 courses all exceptional quality and exquisite taste. Wonderful and entertaining service. Perfect 40th birthday treat!
It was wonderful food. Also a beautiful setting. Caring and attentive service. Definitely recommend. Perry & Linda 😃
Amazing meal and fabulous service today thank you! The 8-course tasting menu was excellent, especially loved the ham hock with raclette and the passion fruit pudding. Delicious
Fantastic, amazing meal , with the best food ever and service
An amazing evening for our friends 50th Friday evening in the private dining room. Simply stunning food. The service was superb. Couldn't fault it. Thank you. We will be back
It's the first time I have been to a Michelin Star Restaurant. The service at Midsummer House was excellent and so was the atmosphere and of course the food, however my friend and I had what we thought would be a class of Midsummer House Champagne each but was actually half a glass which I believe I was charged £38 for.
Fabulous food, attentive and unpretentious staff, relaxed atmosphere. We were there for a birthday lunch and stayed 4 hours!
Incredible food absolutely first class. Front of house, the waiters, the food.Cant fault it
Amazing restaurant, everything was faultless and enjoyed the whole experience, food was second to none!! Can’t wait to go back!!
Excellent food and staff . Had a splendid lunch served up with style . Will come again .
Amazing food from start to finish. Excellent service with fantastic sense of humour. We will definitely return!
Perfect dining experience.
We enjoyed the 8 course dinner plus half a dozen additional small dishes - all fantastic.
The team are all very welcoming and enthusiastic.
If you enjoy fine dining, this restaurant is a must !
first class food and service diffecult to beat . Slightly disappointed by the dining room , the conservatory is just alittle dark at night , upstairs bar area need improving
Absolute outstanding... stunning food , lovely staff , beautiful location can't wait to go back .
Wonderful food and experience, looked after by French Marc, he's a legend. Great food, great wine will definitely return!!!
Absolutely sublime. The balance of flavours, the surprising elements, textures, beautiful presentation and the little extras as well as the super attentive service make this a 5-star dining experience.
A fantastic evening, a truly epic meal with impeccable service - as you would expect, of course. A wonderful experience.
Fantastic food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere.
Been to a few Michelin Star restaurants over the past couple of months and I must say this has been the best. Love how relaxed the whole experience is. The staff are so friendly and very knowledgeable. Then there is the food, what can I say other than Wow. The flavour combinations are wonderful, and the presentation is immaculate. I enjoyed every single course. It was a 8 course tasting menu, with three canopes, pastries and homemade chocolates.

What i like here are the salads, a great combination of basil tomatoes hazelnut with the parmesan is just amazing to eat as it sounds. Loved the place
Ordinarily, I’d say we’re great with planning trips, but for some reason, whenever we go to Cambridge, it’s like I have a brain fart and forget to tell friends we’re going, and the plans just seem haphazard. This time, I casually asked if we were going to book anywhere for the Saturday night. Suddenly, we decided we had to try to come to Midsummer House. So about two days before we were heading up, we managed to get a lunch booking due to a fortunate last minute cancellation. So we got ourselves to Cambridge for an afternoon of food and wine.
Dinning at midsummer house was the most wonderful experience. The food was exceptional, from the canapés to the theatrical celariac dish (won't say anymore so as not to ruin the suprise!), to the homemade chocolates it was all so beautifully put together and tasted wonderful. What really made the experience was the staff, they were all so welcoming and friendly. Whilst it is an expensive meal it was worth every penny!
We visited Cambridge on a bitterly cold day a couple of weeks ago and had a few hours to wander around the numerous Colleges and attractive buildings. The main reason for the long journey from the North West was for the first leg of Mrs Nom’s birthday weekend, beginning with a visit to the critically acclaimed Midsummer House, a 2 Michelin starred restaurant run by Chef Daniel Clifford, a regular on TV food shows such as Great British Menu. Midsummer House is located in a standalone building next to the River Cam on Midsummer Common. My mood was nearly ruined as I discovered a parking ticket had been issued when I returned to the car to top up before the meal. However the residents parking only sign was obscured by bushes and a subsequent appeal was successful, which was a first for me. As a word of warning for anyone visiting and parking on Aylestone Road in the future, beware as the same stretch of road has pay and display on one side but residents permit only on the other and it’s not very clear for visitors! A choice of 5, 7 and 10 course menus are offered during lunch service and as if reading our minds when we ordered the 10 course the charming maitre’d asked Mrs Nom if she was sure. We had been pondering but out of the earshot of staff whether we could choose different menus but most places tend to be pretty adamant that the same menu is to be served to all guests at the same table. Without hesitation the full 10 course was offered for me and 7 for Mrs Nom and the maitre’d said it was not a problem and would even tell Chef we were two tables of one otherwise! All of the courses from the 7 were on the 10 course menu and Mrs Nom welcomed the break in between as I had the additional courses. The meal began with a medley of amuse bouches and canapés, beginning with a bloody mary and celery sorbet followed by chicken liver parfait and red apple roll, mackerel wafers, sour cream with chives & lime gel and a decadent truffle cheese éclair.

I've got to say I was extremely impressed with the level of cooking at Midsummer House, all the dishes were of a very high quality and in fact, it was one of the best meals I've had in the UK.
Over-rated and complacent because they lack the constant challenge that London and indeed Paris restaurants expect. Can it compare to Le Gavroche in London or even a Taillevent in Paris? Certainly not.
Midsummer House in Cambridge is the star attraction of Cambridge's growing food scene. Owned by Chef Patron Daniel Clifford, the restaurant has held two Michelin stars since 2005, and has recently undergone renovation. I've wanted to eat Daniel's food for some time now, and the Craven meeting at the Newmarket race course nearby provided the perfect opportunity to visit the restaurant. Midsummer House is set in a Victorian villa, perched neatly between a river and an open park. As a result you have to approach it on foot - but this gives you time to take in the restaurant's lovely setting... Tables are predominantly set in the rear conservatory, and overlook the charming garden, the trees hung with fairy lights. There's even a Misdummer House Pashley propped up in the garden, adding to the slightly old-world romantic feel of the restaurant. We began with a tomato and celery sorbet, olives, and che ese gougère made with parmesan, and filled with smooth warm gruyere, by far the best g
ll in all it was a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting, perfect for a summers day. If I hadn’t known it had two Michelin stars I’m not sure I would have guessed but all the extra were lovely, especially those pastries.
On the whole, the food was good but the service wasn't as great as I expected for a 2 star restaurant. They forgot to serve us chocolate with the coffee until I asked them when I get the bill :p Biggest mistake ever :p
The dishes in the Taste of Midsummer menu show technical assurance, complexity, originality and a perfect blend of modern and classic techniques. Speaking of modern technique: I don't think I have ever seen a kitchen with more Pacojets, Big Green Eggs, water baths and other state-of-the-art equipment. This is not a molecularian's paradise however. Clifford's
It has been a good year for Daniel Clifford and his team at Midsummer House. Daniel made the banquet on GBM while Midsummer House continues to be recognised as one of the best restaurants in the country, climbing five places in the Sunday Times 100 Best awards to rank seventh. Midsummer was also rated as the best restaurant in the East of England, and the fifth best wine list nationally, a good sweep of awards then. Our visit there is long overdue. Located on Midsummer Common, the house is so distinctly a house (not a restaurant) that you wonder if you're in the wrong place, but no. A clever use of space, with the dining room in the now extended conservatory and the ground floor of the house an extended kitchen, means that once inside, it offers a light and airy dining room, and levels of comfort you'd expect from one of the UK's top ten restaurants. Midsummer House. Definitely a house. On our midweek visit, there's a choice of Classic Menu (3, 4, 5 courses £40, £50, £60 respectively),
Amazing as usual. Cambridge’s local Michelin is well worth dining at at least once in your life. If you haven’t dined here you’re missing out!
Well worth the cost. Ambience is perfect — quiet and comfortable. Nice for a date or business meeting.
Favorite dish is their constant — the apple shaped beignets are to die for. Also their gift bag carrot cake…
midsummer_house is a 2 Michelin star Victoria era river side cottage in the heart of Cambridge. Serving some incredibly beautiful French meals. It was the best culinary experience I have ever had in my life and I would recommend going if you have a special occasion coming up as it’s on the pricier side but it is worth every penny. We later slipped into the lounge area with some spectacular views of the River Cam and was given the absolute honour of looking behind the scenes in the kitchen! Absolutely unforgettable experience! 😍🤩
This place is fantastic! The food is an explosion of all the different flavours packed into a small bundle! All the descriptions for both wine and food were spot on! The chef and staff were incredibly kind and were very quick with the services. The view inside the kitchen was amazing. I was able to even see hardcore sanitizing after using a cooking station. They gave me a good bag on the way out. This place by far was the best tasting and kindest that I have ever been to!
We enjoyed a culinary symphony at Midsummer House. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The nature-inspired presentations were works of art, and the thoughtful wine selections only elevated the dining experience. We'd love to return every season and get inspired. Thank you for such a delightful experience and the sourdough ;-)
An absolutely gorgeous gem nestled on the side of the Cam. A special treat dinner was everything we hoped it would be and more. Literally everything and everybody on point from start to finish. Wonderful.
I brought my father here for his birthday the other week and it's safe to say that we were very satisfied and impressed, especially with the creativity and uniqueness of the chefs' cuisine. The service was essentially faultless; the dining room was very pleasant and should appeal to everyone. We had some of the most experimental and bravest dishes we had ever come across.
Some canapés, including one made to resemble a strawberry, when actually made from duck liver and pepper, featured. This was great, with a perfect sweet and salty flavour, with a little added smokiness from the pepper. A juicy and tender chicken wing was also lovely, though I feel there wasn't a need to wrap it in candy floss. The rabbit gougère was utterly gorgeous.
The oyster dish with passionfruit and jalapenos was full of flavour, and the tanginess of the passionfruit and peppers complimented the oyster very well. The Cambridgeshire asparagus was vibrant and fresh, with a good extra flavour provided by the cocoa nibs. Beside it was a fabulous, frothy and warm velouté-like drink made from asparagus and mushrooms, it was a real shame it ended in a few mouthfuls! The salmon with white chocolate and caviar, although sounding mad, was one of the best dishes, both in terms of flavour and texture. The salmon was beautifully cooked. The white chocolate sauce wasn't too sweet and paired nicely with the smokiness and saltiness of the fish and caviar. In my opinion, this was a dish where brave experimenting had paid off. The Yorkshire duck was tender and rich. It was just what you would want from a duck dish.
The IPA sorbet with Cathedral cheese was one of the most exciting and original courses of the night. This was absolutely phenomenal. The combination of the mature, strong flavour of the cheese with the sweet and slightly bitter flavour of the IPA was just brilliant. The main dessert titled 'Coriander Dome' was even more spectacular. A simple looking coriander chocolate dome was packed full of various ingredients associated with Thai desserts, such as mango, coconut and lemongrass. Within seconds, my mouth was packed with an assortment of delightful, tropical and herbal flavours. This was very much Thai-inspired. I loved it very much. I would love to try other versions of this dessert!
Meeting Daniel Clifford (chef-patron), Mark Abbott (chef de cuisine) and their team at the end brought the meal to a perfect close. This was a nice birthday dinner for my father. Thank you for the great evening!
Had an extremely pleasant evening but for the price I expected a bit more. The food was outstanding as you would expect, but the day was let down by the atmosphere and service. We visited Midsummer on Saturday arriving a little early and we took a drink in the seating area upstairs (The Lounge). The drink selection was quite odd here as there was only 2 cocktails and mainly spirits, which before dinner is unusual. We were invited to an aperitif but there was nothing on the menu to that affect. However, the décor in this area was sublime. After finishing our drink we headed downstairs for our meal. We opted for the wine pairing when we booked online and had to state we were still doing this, this should have been seamless. Whilst each serving of wine was generous, it was actually too much and we left quite inebriated. Our courses then arrived thick and fast. The food was a triumph, my only complaint was there was a lot of similar textures (lots of 'jellied' dishes). However these are minor complaints. What I did not enjoy was the fact there was a dress code of smart casual and hardly any of the guests adhered to it. Someone was wearing a full designer tracksuit! This cheapened the experience and was disappointing to say the least. On top of this, the waiting staff clearly didn't know enough about the dishes to respond other than what was on their 'script'.
The waiting staff have us stellar service. They are very knowledgeable and caring, and make it look like a very relaxed environment. The chefs are quick to serve food and they execute it to perfection. The food presentation is amazing and food taste is so good I cannot find appropriate words to describe it. Separate components of the dish and they altogether sing perfectly in the mouth. The place is lovely and I enjoyed watching birds.
My Dad and I had an amazing meal here, probably the best we've had together.
It is very expensive, even compared to other two stars and some three but in my opinion very much worth it for the food. The service additionally was fantastic I suppose the wine pairing seemed over priced if I am to be critical. The Sommelier was engaging, fun and knowledgeable but some of the wines themselves although delicious, didn't seem so worth the money.
This is shadowed by the 5 star experience and we were happy to pay (next time though we may purchase a bottle or two instead).
Incredible experience. Each course was absolutely perfect. Wine pairings were exquisite. Waiters are so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Really Can not recommend highly enough. You need to experience this place.
We had lunch at this beautiful French restaurant in Cambridge. It was the best foodie experience in this trip. Foods and deserts were great. The staffs were attentive and helpful. Will definitely come back again.
Such a fantastic evening! Thanks to the whole team, front of house and back, for an incredible dining and culinary experience. The food was creative, innovative and attractive. The flavours were divine and every member of staff treated us beautifully. Thanks again!
An amazing experience from start to finish. We were gifted a voucher for my partner’s 40th birthday so chose the tasting menu during lunch service. A truly sensational range of dishes and creativity. The standard of service was impeccable and we were made to feel looked after but not too fussed over. Would recommend for foodies who want to treat themselves to an afternoon of luxury!
They've just added a new pairing menu of alcohol free infusions. These are amazing and are designed to go with each dish. I actually think they are better than the wines. Food as always is delicious
Refined and intuitive service from knowledgeable, friendly staff. One of those places you wouldn’t even know was there unless you knew what you were looking for. Elegant dishes served alongside perfect wine pairings.
This was our first ever two Michelin Star restaurant (which we booked for our first wedding anniversary), and despite our fears and anxieties beforehand regarding cost and whether it would be worth it… it definitely was! The step up from one to two stars was noticeable and while it was eye wateringly expensive I think it would feel commensurate with any significant celebration. Can’t wait to come back for our 5th anniversary (or as soon as we can afford it).
An absolute high point for dining. This place took us to the Pinnacle of fine food and the best part was meeting Mark Abbott to hear about the philosophy and backstory of the restaurant.
We had an absolutely stunning evening at Midsummer House enjoying the tasting experience. From arrival through to departure and everything in between, we couldn’t fault it. The food is stunning; beautifully presented with lots of unusual ingredients, unfamiliar flavours and some absolute classics. The sommelier was such good fun, so knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations, and the waiting staff we equally as delightful, quick-witted and attentive. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to experience fine dining for a special occasion. Thank you so much!
A top tip; order a coffee or tea at the end of your meal!
