Bread and Meat.... Yep that's exactly what I had and it was a meal fit for a king... well a hungry fat bloke anyway!
the quality of the food and the portion size was perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive.. I really enjoyed my meal and would recommend the place to anyone who likes filling plain simple quality food.
Really enjoyed our meal here! struggled to choose what to have as there were so many good items on the menu. We arrived at a relatively busy time but were dealt with friendly & efficiently. We didn't have to wait too long and had the chance to decide what to order before being seated. We enjoyed a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, pulled pork melt and a portion of poutine (cheese curds were a bit on the big side for my liking) but thoroughly enjoyed everything and unfortunately couldn't quite finish everything. Atmosphere and food excellent !!
I went here for lunch on a visit to the city and I was so impressed. The atmosphere and service was fabulous and don't get me started on the sandwiches heavenly. Being a northerner visiting I was so happy they did gravy and chips which were divine. Definitely recommend here for lunch if your ever in Cambridge!!!
-The place is clean
- The waiters are friendly
-The menu is limited to few items, but the items are unique and tastes good
-We ordered two sandwiches one with chicken and one with meat. Both were good, but i liked the chicken more.
beautiful p;lace with awesome vibe... excellent ood the are serving here....very clean restaurant... good place for family....so much fun we had that day....
We had a rare few hours without the kids and popped in here on a whim. Hubby's Phillips cheese steak was so full of beef it kept coming out. I had the porchetta which was amazing. The coleslaw was different but the best I have had.
This place is proof that if you keep the menu simple and do just a few things, you can do them well. Hats off to them.
I woke up to the results of the referendum, rather hot headed, upset and down right angry. That day I luckily only had a half day at work and sang my frustration out in the car on the way up to Cambridge. Patrick is a sensible chap, he knows that food will cure most of my anger (well actually most things). So we pottered down to Bread & Meat and when I saw this sign, I knew we were going to get along just fine.
We placed our order at the counter: traditional Italian porchetta sandwich with salsa verde in a ciabatta roll. The porchetta (rolled middle of pork) was sliced and served quickly and efficiently. It looked and smelled delicious: a long ciabatta roll filled with pork, its crackling and salsa verde. The place definitely lived up to its name, serving high quality bread and meat. The ciabatta roll was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, as it should be. The outdoor reared pork was nicely seasoned and so moist and tender! A few crispy pieces of crackling added just the right flavour and texture. The salsa verde gave the sandwich its herby fresh taste… the perfect condiment!
Nice place and delicious sandwiches. Roast veggies and wedges as a side were tasty but the portion was smaller than I thought.
The service was fast and friendly.
The overall price was higher than other places, and adds the service charge as well.
Average clean toilets.
It’s a place I can recommend even I can try it again and again. Beautiful atmosphere and central location in Cambridge city.
Food was really good and such nice selection of real ales. Great service behind the bar. Clean place. Must coming back.
An excellent place with friendly service and great food. My initial fright at seeing the fries drowned in gravy and melted cheese in my poutine were completely unfounded, as it brought the flavours together without making the fries soggy. The sandwiches were also great, while the milkshake felt like drinking melted ice cream. The portions leave little room for desserts. Get the window seats if you fancy people watching.
I cannot recommend this place enough. Nothing on the menu will disappoint. Sandwiches are delicious and the gravy is definitely a good way to soak those chips.
Get their house iced tea, always refreshing and can satisfy that thirst after the sandwich.
Great sandwiches! We had a few options on the menu and they were all good. Be aware that the queue can get a bit long.
As a French Canadian, I had to try their poutine and I must say that they did a great job. It does taste a little different than home because of the gravy, but definitely worth every pound!! I would have it again!!
It is rare that we get to Bread and Meat and there is not a queue outside but that's what you get when the food is beyond amazing - the poutine is top notch and the dirty chai milkshakes are an unexpectedly perfect match. We waited outside for two minutes as a party of four today and we are accustomed to a wait to eat in, but we were greeted and told the usual expected time of wait (ten mins) for inside or if we didn't mind eating by the church we could order and go sit behind St Bennet's! They have access to this space for three months of the year with proceeds going to charity - it's a gorgeous spot with comfy chairs and it's quiet with lovely flowers, glass windows, and headstones and graves surrounding the grass. You can't have alcohol or smoke in this area as it is consecrated ground. The headstones are hundreds of years old and a lot of them look to have been relocated but I think the church would know more on that - the space is only available for use by Bread and Meat customers!
No wonder this little space is packed. Fortunately, a few window side bar seats are still available even during the busy hours in this bread and near heaven.
The crispy airy ciabatta was brilliant. Wish you could hear the cracking sound as I cut through the bread. Simply grabbing it and taking a bite, of course, was subliminally satisfying— a generous amount of tenderly cooked brisket, a rich layer of melted but still tangible cheese, and some brightening. The roasted garlic aioli was not overpowering and subtly welded the bread and the meat together with a creamy, sweet-savory taste.
I can’t remember when I had my last Philly cheese steak, but this interpretation is great and deserves a name of its own.
The roasted veggie side came with a nice variety and was not oily, to my delight.
Background music was chill, calming me down amid the stress of eating fast and giving space to others.
Will definitely recommend to carnivorous friends :D and come back either with them or by myself.
Wait! There is so much more to this than bread and meat. We had the bowl. Absolutely wonderful! Great tasting grilled veggies, perfect potato wedges and… yes, absolutely perfect meat.
Best poutine in the UK! I will definitely come back for more. The sandwiches are amazing as well, the quality of the food is great. I’m giving the gravy 100 out of 10 :)
Fun and unexpected place with delicious food for a quick bite. I went for lunch after walking around Cambridge and was very impressed by food. Simple but tasty!
Very tasty sandwiches. We tried braised beef and chicken and both were excellent! They also have poutines. They have small place inside for seating but they also have an outdoor area behind the church across from the restaurant which is a bit creepy.
Amazing sandwiches! Beef was perfect and the pork crackling was absolutely delicious.
Can’t tell you how amazing this was. Went to Cambridge on a whim and stumbled across Bread & Meat - and wow, we were not disappointed. We got the Philli Cheese Steak with poutine and vegetable sides, then my partner went back the next day to get the Honey Soy Chicken - both were unbelievable. Get yourself here!
Also extremely affordable. Nothing feels better than having a cost effective mean that blows so many expensive eateries out the water.
best place to grab a bite in Cambridge (to be fair, I visited Cambridge for only half a day) They have an open kitchen so you can see the ingredients cleanly. you can choose the meat and either have it with bread, poutine or potato wedges and grilled veggies. both pork and chicken were so good, very juicy and tender and the sauce was perfect combination too.
Traditional flavors, all done by hand. The staff (Elisa) is quick and friendly. A site in Cambridge to repeat.
