Chanced upon this place whilst walking through Buxton with my family.
Nice to see a decent independent eatery/ place to have a drink.
The food was great. Burgers were perfect, chicken crispy and just the right amount of sauce and prep of bun. Side of chips was well cooked and was at the correct serving temp. 10/10 for the food!
However to be critical, (which I generally am to better such vendors, to which is my intent in review);;
Sauces were poor. You may think I’m being petty but if I want Mayo on my chips, I like decent Mayo. Offered was such 2nd rate sachets found at burger vans.
There was a paving slab on the steps to the rear area that was loose. I saw 2 people trip up on it whilst there.
I spoke to the owner regarding sauces and this was down to budget and inflating costs. I feel for him.

My son and I enjoyed our evening meal at high stakes. I had a peanut free Penang with rice noodles and it was delicious. My son had a chicken burger which he said was lovely. We had a lovely quiet evening meal. Place is a bit hard to spot and we walked past it but we recommend it to anyone looking for a little gem to try.
Came across this place by accident on a quiet Monday evening while working in the area. The smell .from outside was amazing.
Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the halloumi veggie burger witg upgraded loaded fries and my colleague went for the rack of ribs.
Take a look at the photos, the portions are really generous!!! The flavours and presentation were outstanding!
I will definitely return next time I'm staying in the area. Looking forward to trying the other things on the menu.
We regularly order takeaway from here; although the wait times are long it is SO worth it!! We love the burgers and the dirty fries, great portion sizes (we barely manage to finish!) and the cake shake is so tasty!! Friendly delivery, fantastic food, what more could you ask for? 😁

Went here on a Friday night, it wasn't particularly busy but the two waiting staff seemed to be a little out of their comfort zone, though they were friendly. My partner had the wings meal and I had a big Philly burger. They were both very good, the burger was very tasty. The wings meal was supposed to come with a can of drink, however it wasn't given to us until we asked upon paying the bill. The can was also warm and a tad sticky! The table also was quite sticky and didn't seem like it had been cleaned properly.
Overall, I would go back, hopefully with time the staff will gain some experience and be able to cope with things a bit easier.
Brilliant as ever! Very friendly staff! Love the new décor and the new menu is great! It combines all the classic highsteak favourites with some awesome new Thai dishes! I would 10/10 recommend! Especially if you can't decide on a cuisine, they have lots to choose, and a lovely atmosphere, perfect for date night! 💕
Great food, Nice chilled bar with plenty of choice of drinks. The menu has recently changed. Can't wait to try and get through it all. 🙌
Absolutely banging burgers! We've been here twice now in as many weeks, the food is super tasty and you can taste that the burgers are homemade. They're huge too, I'd say a good 15cm+ tall! Thoroughly recommend the 'Highstakes Burger' - two burgers, cheese, onion chutney, fried onions and the most tender and pink steak on top. Lovely people running it too with superb service.
Ordered to pick up on the way past, really couldn't find a fault,
the food was good and the staff were brilliant. Really wish it was closer to home but will definitely go again next time we are over that way.

This time I have decided to go for something “different” - “The Ol’ Switcharoo” - a lamb and feta burger. If it wasn’t so juicy and tasty I could have eaten it 3 times over if it weren’t so filling!
If I could put 6 stars here I would have!!!! lol anyways I was saying… this place is amazing, great friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere with enjoyable music, the food was beautiful, not greasy and was good quality, it had a lot of flavour, I had the jackfruit chilli and it was perfect in every way, really made a lovely evening here, the service was fast and the whole experience was amazing, I’d revisit any day! Thank you for having me! Also shout out big shout out to Stephen who served us, he was so welcoming and friendly and made the whole experience great!
It's a small cozy restraunt which has the most amazing staff and the little wait for our food was really worth it cuz the burgers and desrt we got was the pengessttt
A nicely decorated space with a great menu. Service was quick and our order of loaded fries and nachos were tasty and hot.
Nice sandwich Philly. Tasty beef, not much cheese though. The usage of pitta is quite special and great!
Coming from someone who has a very high standard of food.
I've been back and forward to highstakes over the past couple of months due to training in the area. And wow they do not disappoint. Foods incredible. Slowly working my way through the menu and every meal I've had so far has been fabulous!!
Highly recommend the chicken burgers or steak salad!! Milkshakes are amazing too!
