Really interesting building with large windows overlooking the street outside. Warm and busy on a damp, foggy Saturday afternoon in late October. Live sport is screened on several large TV screens, but it's not intrusive - it might be if there was a high profile event on.
The selection of beers and drinks was excellent and the bar, bottles and glasses sparkled and was very inviting. We didn't eat (but the food being served was going down very well, looked good and the portions were of decent size), but stopped for a warm up and dry out after a walk on the hills surrounding Buxton and Burbage. The Old Club House is popular with a wide range of people and the bar is dog friendly with water and treats available.
The main toilets, clean and tidy, are upstairs and a couple of seating areas in the bar have steps. I didn't spot a disabled toilet, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
If I lived in Buxton I think the Old Club House would be a place I visited quite often, the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was busy, but not overly loud and the customers were a good mix of locals and visitors, ladies meeting up for a chat, families doing lunch and everyone else!
We had our wedding reception in the Function room upstairs. We had a halloween party and we were allowed to set the room up the day before which was brilliant!
It was an absolutely amazing night, the staff at the Clubhouse are just fantastic, the food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better night!
We also went for meals on the days after our wedding, superb meals!
Thanks Oliver and Team xx
Delicious food! Very dog friendly, you can order off a separate menu for your dog. My dog had a good portion of chicken and was extremely happy. The staff were all welcoming. The food was so tasty and to a high standard.
This place is worth it. This is where I hang out with my son while waiting for my daughter to finish her class. And we go here for dinner too sometimes after swi because their kids meals are decent and affordable too. it's safe here, kids friendly & dog friendly, The staff are lovely here & understanding.
Excellent food and drink consumed at the delightful Old Club House in Buxton. A warm welcome and great service from the staff was a nice treat on a wet and windy day. This pub has great character, interesting decor and good range of food and drink on offer at reasonable prices. Ideally located if you are visiting the opera house or gardens next to it.
We booked the room upstairs for a Christening and everything ran smoothly the food was amazing the service was great and overall it was a fantastic event we had at the Clubhouse. The current landlord Oliver is really trying to turn things around and i must say he is doing a great job. We are looking forward to visiting again.
Thank you Clubhouse for the effort you went through and your hospitality
Our Chihuahua Poncho approves, loved his dog ice cream. The size of the dog friendly sign is the largest I have seen so far in th UK. :) . Nice pub very friendly staff!
Nice pub serving usual food. Meals were tasty and large. Service was friendly. Lovely open fire was lit when we were there which added to the cosy atmosphere but it did become a bit smokey.
Apparently a busy day, but we had no trouble getting tickets on the door. An enormous pile, well maintained and restored though perhaps a little ornate for my tastes. But if you like decorated walls and ceiling, you will be blown away. We were told it would take an hour to tour the house, it took us twice that by which time it was too late to get lunch. But there were several options. Two shops, you could spend almost as long browsing the shops! There was a grand piano in one the rooms, it was an absolute joy hearing a visitor from Taiwan sit down and play
What an amazing place!
Turned up and asked for some cheeky chippies, my order was fulfilled to the highest of standards. I was sat outside with easy access parking and my food arrived within 5 mins of ordering. Went down very nicely with my pint.
11/10 would recommend to a friend👍🏼
Very friendly staff and dog friendly. They have treats for the dogs and dog's menu, never came across one before but great idea! Some of the food was missing from the menu, but the place was quite busy. All three of us including the dog enjoyed the food. Highly recomend.
Next to Buxton opera house, nice cosy pub. The food was excellent and for a reasonable price. Would go again. Gets very busy just before a show at the opera House as you would imagine.
