Had lunch here yesterday & it was top notch... the best sharing platters ive ever seen & tasted! Other diners options looked pretty good too. Its warm & cosy with a log fire, very welcoming and tastefully decorated. The staff were very friendly, professional & couldnt do enough for us. The young lady who waited on us was outstanding, she saw our little dog under the table & asked if he would like biscuits & a bowl of water. She then came back a few moments later as she had been out specially to buy him the biscuits....really nice touch. Loved it!!!
Cant wait to come back as itll be our 1st port of call
Just been for a recce and enjoyed a good pint. Friendly and helpful bar staff, decor and seating giving a relaxed and comfortable ambience and dog friendly to boot. Nine out of ten. It would have been a top score if Wincle was on draught.

Wow!! What a lovely pub! Beautiful decor, amazing food and really great staff... can’t wait to visit again, what a gem 😍😍😍
Having lived in Buxton all my life I’ve never been in to this pub but what a nice surprise! The food was amazing & staff were very friendly & tentative. Will definitely be back soon
Had the Mothers Day set meal yesterday, Table of 4 with a baby. Firstly they were well organised our table was ready and waiting with lots of space and highchair which is so helpful when you have a little one. Then we got a complementary drink and lovely little chocolates for the mothers (really nice touch).
Service was quick, attentive and made you feel really well-taken care off.
The food was absolutely beautiful, the starters especially, the cheese soufflé thing was out of this world, the black pudding was amazing as well I was told. 4 roast dinners and a baby's roast dinner later everyone was happy happy happy!!!
They even brought the baby's dinner out with the starter which was a great help when you have a cave man for a baby who cant wait!
They made us feel really at home even when the baby got a bit restless and cried they didn't make us feel like we were a nuisance which so many pubs/restaurants do!
Will be back definitely and will look to have other special days there as well.
AND now we know you can take dogs!!! Just try and stop us becoming regulars! Only flaw its in Buxton not Chapel!
Lovely meal, friendly staff, a real gem of a pub.
Thank you.
Food spot on and staff really nice, 100% recommend.
Had a nice Sunday roast and then sat outside listening to acoustic music until the sun went down. Lovely little pub with lots of character. Will definately be returning on our next visit to Buxton.

Wonderful food and loved the stout. (My first one ever...) Great service, especially Greg who waited on us. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Very not just Dog friendly place to be. It boasts being a great places to sit in many spaces to fit any escape from the world & enjoy #Marvellous hospitality
Went for meal last night with the hubby and had Steak burgers :) they were deeeeeelicious! Thanks to JoJo and the team for a wonderful meal and the bar staff for the fantabulous service! Xoxoxoxox
Great staff. Really friendly and probably one of the best pies I’ve had in a long time.
Popped in for Sunday lunch yesterday and was very impressed from the outset. Really friendly and polite staff offered a warm welcome. Fantastic range of beers to choose from and the roast lamb was beautifully cooked and very well presented.
Cosy, dog-friendly pub with excellent food and good selection of drinks including cocktails and beers. We came here for dinner on a foggy Friday at the end of October and it was so good we came back again for dinner the next day! The menu has the usual suspects: scampi, burgers, Mac and cheese, but also home made pies. We chose the cheese and onion pies which come with mushy peas (or garden if you prefer), chunky chips and gravy. The pies were perfect and proved to be a substantial dinner - just right after a foggy afternoon's walking. Our son in law went for the gammon and turkey pie and was equally impressed. The Mac and cheese with (and without) bacon was lovely and came with a good amount of salad and a couple of slices of delicious garlic bread. Our Saturday evening dinner was just as good. The beers are well kept and the espresso martinis (instead of coffees) were very good.
Service was friendly (a bit slow on Friday) and helpful. Everywhere was clean and all of the dogs were well behaved. Our dinners were good value for money and we will return when next visiting Buxton.
I wasn't quite sure what the etiquette was, so I didn't know if i should go to the bar or not.
The staff were really lovely, tho.
I just sat at a table and then caught attention from the lady as she was clearing another table.
I had the pie and a pint for £18.95.
The pie was amazing. It was massive, and the steak was all cooked beautifully.
It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Absolutely delicious meal after a long walk in Buxton. We aren’t local so we asked someone local walking down the street for a recommendation of good pub food and she instantly said the The Old Sun Inn. Her expression told us this was the only place to try. We were not disappointed. We had the small fish & chips (not small by the way, very generous portion) which was beautifully cooked in crisp light batter and the chunky chips were fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. We also ordered the vegan chilli dog which was also very generous. Served in a lovely soft baguette. It was filled to the brim with delicious sausage and tasty chilli. We opted for pudding despite already being full but couldn’t resist. The lemon tart and trio or sorbets were also to die for. The staff working were very welcoming and accommodating. The allowed us to make a few tweaks and they made the visit all the more enjoyable. Will definitely go again if we’re ever back on the area. The perfect place to end a day of exploring Buxton & the surrounding area. Big thank you to the team working there on 21.08.23 at 17:30ish
Delicious vegetarian sunday roast. They were out of potatoes but our waiter Emma went above and beyond to give us an exceptional meal and more than made up for the missing roast potatoes. Superb service and lovely pub atmosphere. We had a wonderful time! 🫶
Booked a last minute Sunday Lunch at The Old Sun Inn. Staff were friendly and attentive. Placed our order after a table of 10 and a 7 but there was no delay in the food arriving. Great quality food. Would recommend and go again!
Fantastic old pub, loads of hand pulled beers to choose from,
Well worth a visit.
Good local ales and the steak and Stilton pie is the best I’ve ever had. All homemade and nicely cooked so the steak is tender. No ‘pastry hat’ pie either - a proper pie!
Lovely pub. Delicious pies! Prompt and friendly service, and dog friendly too 👍🏼
One of the nicer Buxton pubs! We walked in for a quick drink on our walk back to Ladmanlow and got a bowl of chips which were great (the gravy was a little thin but I’ll allow it).
The place had a really snug atmosphere and we enjoyed a pint and a couple of games of cards during our short stay.
The toilets are pretty clean and the place looked lively overall — there’s also a little snug room which is really nice, but a bit badly signposted. We walked in there thinking it was the main bar area and surprised a gent drinking a pint with his dog! Our fault really..
Really nice pub and a great place to eat. Service was amazing. Tried chicken burger which was very tasty. Writing this review after my second visit. Menu is different for Sunday. Pet friendly.
