Visited for first time today, what a lovely experience! Had a late lunch chosen from an extensive menu, food delicious and indulged in a couple of cocktails again from a huge drinks menu. Finished off with a proper Irish coffee which was absolutely perfect and not a bit of squirty cream in sight. Thankyou to all the staff for a truly lovely dining experience.

My friend & I popped into The Clarence for a Saturday evening drink and ended up staying for dinner! The stout was perfect (my pal is a real ale aficionado) and we happily polished off our Beef & Oxtail Suet Pudding with cabbage & mashed potatoes, and the Black Forest Gateau Coupe....which was too much even for me. The staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful - we got the feeling nothing would be too much trouble. It may have been a first time visit, but it won't be the last.

I visit quite regularly and I’ve never ever had a bad experience and never thought it could get better but today it was even better than the last times I have visited which I didn’t think was possible. Amy our waitress went above and beyond and deserves recognition within the company!

It was the second time I'd visited The Clarence yesterday and decided to return because I was on my own with my twin babies as the staff had been so helpful the first time I had visited. On arrival I was helped up the step by the staff, given 2 high chairs immediately and the staff couldn't have been more helpful throughout our visit. The food was lovely and the log burner was lit so it was super cozy. It's always a bit daunting taking the babies into anywhere to eat when you are on your own and it really takes the stress out of a shopping trip when you know there is somewhere lovely you can easily go for a lunch and manage to change the babies too. I'll definitely be going back and looking forward to getting down and trying the Sunday lunch soon.

Bury Black Pudding & Leek Croquettes – making use of the celebrated Bury Black Pudding, these croquettes were very good indeed. A robust apple sauce laced with the Clarence’s own Silver Street Porter acted as the perfect consort.

What a lovely restaurant. chilled atmosphere great music 🎶 I've had the best pot of tea here ever. The food was lovely the portions in the main course are a bit on the light side and it left me feeling I should have had a starter. Next time I will.

A wonderful quiet pub in the centre of Bury, Staff are warm, Helpful and friendly and the menu is lovely. I had Chicken with mushroom and tarragon sauce. Meals and drinks are reasonably priced. Will return.

After phoning the owner @theclarencebury and asking for a unique veggie dish; he not only rustled up a Mediterranean ciabatta (that included cheese & aubergine), but threw in chunky chips too. This one off take away special humbled me and my tastebuds. Thank you.

Been here a few times. Very good food pub and excellent real ale. Had a pint of best bitter from Congleton's Beartown brewery. Used to brew Silver Street in the basement but brewery has moved and was not for sale on my visit.

The Clarence an excellent place to come, bright welcoming and polite and courteous staff, smiling all time whilst there the food good choice but the 3 small courses for £15 a bargain and have great choice on real ales which happily let you sample to find the one that suits your preference. A thoroughly enjoyable experience happily would return

What a difference. I remember this pub being the first one I was ever served in back when it was an awful boozer. It is a great place for drinks downstairs and the floors above serve some great food. Service was prompt and friendly. Steak was slightly over cooked. It was still medium and very tasty. Hot dog and burger were very good.

I found myself in Bury on Sunday, at lunchtime and plan A was closed. I was close to Silver Street so thought I'd see if the hype was deserved. Overall, it's good and an improvement on chain pub meals. But then you don't pay these prices in chain pubs. Atmosphere is spot on. Rat pack music in the background, a real fire and leather seats in the snug. There was no room in the main restaurant. This does mean that it can be hard to catch the eye of the staff if they're not there to serve other tables. A good choice of ales and gins, including a good range of locals of each. I'm congenitally unable to make decisions on the weekend, so when there was the choice of having a slice of each to avoid choosing between lamb or beef, it was a no-brainer. Whilst waiting, a bottle of tap water was brought, unbidden. Good touch. First minor niggle, the plate on which it was served was warm, at best if not cool so it's contents chilled quickly. Those contents were stacked, not spread which aesthetically does nothing for me but also doesn't aid keeping warm. It did have their name on, as did other crockery, which is a nice touch. The lamb was practically faultless. A healthy thickness, easy to cut and tasty. It could have been pinker for my taste but that would have been a bonus if delivered. The beef was more disappointing. Sliced much thinner so no chance of any pinker but also more resistant to slicing and one mouthful beyond me to chew because of gristle. The sides were decent enough but nothing to lift the spirits as salt crust on the potatoes or herbs in the carrots would have done. The all important gravy was good and I was on the point of asking for more when I found a lake hidden under the Yorkshire batter. The apple crumble praised by other reviews isn't part of the Sunday lunch set meal, shame. So I opted for lemon meringue with raspberry ripple ice cream. What I had was served in a sundae glass, laden with cream with two meringue discs on top and a few shards within. Tasty and palate cleansing because of raspberry and lemon curd. Nothing to stop me coming back but it could have been so much more for the price.

Great location in Bury, food was fantastic and staff were excellent, shame there are not a few more veggy options. Avocado sandwich was excellent, will definitely be returning.

We met our 17 year old grandsons, son and daughter and son in law for the twins birthday. The food was really good and the staff were excellent. Very attentive and helpful. The boys even got a candle in their desserts....
