Somewhat of a strange experience. It's less hotel, more Air b&b. It's an unmanned former hotel where you collect keys from an external key box and then let yourself come and go without seeing any staff. Fine for me, but this may not suit everyone.

There's nothing bad that can be said about the Northgate. Rooms are splendid, luxurious, and everything worked as it ought to, and was spotlessly clean. It's a shame the hotel no longer has its restaurant and bar and staff and reception and all the things that gave the place its terrific reputation
I happened to chance upon the cocktail bar at The Northgate after this was recommended to me. The hotel is built in a Victorian house and you notice how lovely it looks inside as soon as you enter. I did not get an opportunity to stay in the rooms there or have dinner there though, but I did notice

Beautiful meal had by the 4 of us. I had the beef cheek it was just stunning. Really good coffee too. The only criticism I would have is whilst the staff are all lovely and friendly they are not very 'attentive'. Don't do service checks, / ask if you need anything else / offer more drinks or check y
I booked a beautiful private dining room for a small wedding reception at The Northgate. The room was stunning (as was the rest of the restaurant). The food was sublime! It's too bad the restaurant is closing, the food and service were absolutely amazing. The mains of duck breast and mushroom risotto were cooked to perfection. Hope to see the food come back round soon. I understand the hotel and breakfast part will remain open.
The food was lovely, I had the plaice 2 ways and was very happy with the egg Custard tart! Interior was very nice and the temperature of the room was comfortable. The service was pretty good, and the only thing I would say is the toilets need some attention, but it wouldn't stop me from going back a
Lovely room with on suite shame no restaurant or bar, pain to go out to source breakfast, very near all shops and amenities.
Friendly staff, lovely setting and outstanding food. Visited The Northgate purely for dining rather than staying at the hotel and would highly recommend it in this regard.
The whole experience is well crafted from the friendly greeting through to the final goodbye. A wide selection of quality drink
Just had an fantastic 2 night stay. The staff were brilliant - very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and food were both excellent. Breakfast outside on the patio with friends and family was a real highlight.
Great hotel. Great location as really close to town centre. There is plenty of parking on site. Very good breakfast with high-quality food and plenty of it. Comfy bed and great shower. Friendly staff.
Wow what an amazing little hotel. We stayed for my sons wedding weekend and we were all so very well.looked after. All the staff were amazing and the rooms were very nice. The staff could not have been more helpful and worked so well as a team.

We stayed here for a night and dined at the Chef's Table which was a great experience. Food was amazing and we had the nicest room I've stayed in so far at the Chestnut properties. Cocktails were really good as well.

An amazing experience - all of the team were very welcoming and professional, the drinks and food were extremely tasty and well presented. We sat on the tables overlooking the open kitchen which makes it a lot of fun to see how everything is prepared and to interact with the chefd. Definitely worth
