Great pub with an extensive beer and spirit selection, varied menu with traditional and more modern dishes. The inside has a couple rooms with tables in front. It’s on the smaller side but it’s an old building so to be expected. There’s an outside areas accessible from the side or through the inside with plenty of seating and space. The food has always been excellent, bar staff are good to chat with and are happy to give their advice on beer selection. Highly recommended!

Great selection of beers that change regularly. Good choice of food with some different items. That was presented well and nice size portion. Friendly welcoming staff with advice on the beer. Lovely old style pub with a good out side area. And just a short walk to the cathedral.

Wife & I just had steak & ale pie. V.nice! Veg could have had very slightly more time was a bit 'firm' but that's better than soggy. Great flavour meal & real mash, couldn't be more friendly & helpful only sorry we don't live here to come again.

Superb beef & ale pie. Good service & recommendations from the barman on choice of ales. Nice cosy feel frequented by locals & passing shoppers & tourists. Really nice way to relax for a drink and a meal. It was the perfect choice after watching a great film at the local cinema. We will be back.

Nice traditional pub with good selection of ales, lagers, etc. and a lovely undercover courtyard area. Food was average with no frills.

Went about 2.30pm, food doesn't get served until 5pm !, was disappointed but the pub was very atmospheric & service was brilliant, plus dogs are allowed .

Beer selection is spot on. Never had a bad experience. Love the outdoor area, which has heating for during the colder months.

A warm, welcoming pub in the heart of Bury St. Edmunds. The building itself dates back to the 16th century and is a pleasure to visit. Didn't try the food, but staff knew what was on offer and were happy to give some guidance. They were also friendly and attentive. Pub was clean with strong consideration for COVID standards. Thanks!

Staff were very friendly. Nice menu - see photos. Food was well prepared albeit a little pricey. Nice selection of craft beers available on a rotation basis - check the boards. Inside can get a little cramped but there is an outdoor seating area at the back that is covered and heated which is more spacious - great on warmer days. If this review is helpful please press like.

During our pub tour of England there were not too many pubs that we frequented twice - but this was one of them. Great little beer garden, welcoming and warm inside with a great selection of real ale. One of the best pubs in Bury.

I always go the Mason's Arms when in Bury, which sadly isn't as often as I'd like. The Abbot Ale on tap is far superior to the cans you buy in supermarkets.

Sheltered here from the rain with our whippet. The staff were super friendly warm and welcoming. We were warned that the kitchen was just about to shut. so we had chips and teas. Both were excellent. It wasn’t busy but the people we did chat to were also very friendly. The decor was cosy and traditional with an open fire. I would definitely seek this place out again over other pubs in the town. Really glad e we got caught out in the rain today.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. We called up only about 40 mins before and they sorted out with a table which was great. When we arrived they were able to seat us outside in the courtyard... even better! Food, drink and all aspects of service taken care of very well by the staff here who were all warm and engaging. They even sorted out a taxi for us when we couldn’t get hold of one. They offered to help despite being busy, and in doing so resolved a a massive headache for us as we’d have been unable to get back to the nearby Rougham Airfield for the flight home (every taxi firm was fully booked!). Nothing was too much trouble for the team here and we really appreciated this. I’ve focussed on the exceptional service but I should point out the food was delicious too with a very generous portion of roast lamb!
