Great food beer and service. Really great dog friendly pub sat right by the river. Highly recommend
Came yesterday for Mother’s Day..... food was delicious, service exceptional and the bags of sweets for the children as it was also my niece’s Birthday was a great little extra that they loved! Maybe a little something for the Mums would’ve made it quite perfect! Highly recommend.
Love this place. Perfect location, amazing food and great staff!! Would definitely recommend.
lovely frendly people, good food, called late sunday, lunches had finished but they very kindly let us have a lunch little did they know we had travelled a long way and was famished! food was piping hot and very tasty they couldnt do enough for us.will go back for sure. recommend.
Great food and staff were lovely and attentive- dirty chicken kebab and the belly pork sandwich a must - thank you Ben and team for a lovely afternoon
Always good. Friendly efficient staff, great food, regular changes to the menu.
Good drinks selection.
Had a wonderful sunday lunch not cheap at £15.00 a main but you can pay £10.00 for an average main any were and be disappointed, they were very busy but found us a table and were very welcoming. Would definitely recommend this place .
The best in the business. The food is outstanding and it's the best pint of Timothy Taylors in the county.
Absolutely love this place! The food is always amazing and the pie is to die for.
Thank you for squeezing us in on Friday night. The food was fabulous definitely the best fish and chips I have ever had.
Top notch wholesome grub, perfect setting and Dean and the staff are amazing ..
This pub is a gem, especially for outdoor enthusiasts and dog lovers. The outdoor area is perfect for a relaxed time, and the fact that it's dog-friendly is a huge bonus! The Sunday roast is fantastic, but I must admit the gravy was a tad sweeter than my preference. Nonetheless, the overall experience is outstanding, making this pub a must-visit for a delightful day out. 🍻🌞🐶🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was our first visit to The Nelson and we both opted for the Roast Beef Sunday dinner. It was absolutely delicious. The beef was beautifully cooked, the staff were attentive and served with a smile! Would definitely recommend and go back again but next time we will bring our dog 🐕 as the pub was very dog friendly.
A very cosy little pub. Accessible from the main road in Burton Joyce or via the pedestrian crossing over the train line from the river trent side. The food looked and smelled fantastic. Staff were a little slow and, to be honest, a tad miserable. But it didn't take away from the lovely atmosphere.
Prices were shocking!
For a pint of Guinness and a large house red wine, it was £16.40
The wine 🍷 turned out to be £11 a glass! It was a nice glass of wine, but it can be purchased for £13.99 a bottle online ( so it wasn't a premium wine ). It was massively overpriced. We didn't stop forward second drink!
Other than that I would recommend this little pub, it's nice. Just ask how much a glass of wine is before committing to bankrupting yourself!
I will visit again.
Just had a lovely Mother's Day meal at the Nelson. It was first-rate and good quick service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was of excellent quality and ample portions.
Four of us had the Steak, Guinness & Mushroom Pie from The Nelson Burton Joyce specials menu. Each pie serves 2 and comes with mash and braised red cabbage. We shared an extra side of grilled broccoli and pickled shallots. The pie had a perfect, tasty filling and the texture of home-made pastry was just right. The portion sizes are very generous so one course was enough.
The staff are attentive and friendly, and made us feel that our custom was truly appreciated. I’d definitely recommend a visit, and will be back in the near future to try other items from the menu.
* Tip: We went on Fizz Friday when a bottle of bubbly is half price – a nice little touch. 🥂
Took mum for lunch.
She had the biggest fish finger sandwich we have ever seen £7.50.
The fish goujons were lovely with plenty of flaky white fish.
The other two dishes we had were the fish of the day, which was Haddock £16.
Served with chips, mushy peas, tartare and curry sauce.
Beef Bourguignon with Truffle mash £16.
This was very tasty with that lovely rich sauce.
It was all very filling and only lunch time so didn't have any desserts.
The staff are lovely, welcoming and very eager to please their customers.
Well worth a visit if your into great food and service as we are.
Went here to celebrate my husbands promotion at work. We had wanted to try it for a while but could never get a seat as always busy which we all know is a good sign. We were greeted friendly when we walked in seated very quickly and took our order quickly too. Starters were amazing I had the salmon and was delicious hubby had croquette beef. Declious! Main was even better lamb and belly pork. Lamb could have been more pink but pure delicious! We will be visiting again. Lovely staff and even laughed at my joke which wasn't funny as my husband told me in the car 🤣
Called in to collect my takeaway which was lovely, staff fab apart from the woman in the black dress ?? 'manager' who made a point of serving her boyfriend before me after I had been waiting for a while. You then had a bit of a moment with him ( so happy you're in a relationship but you really don't need to prove it) and then faff around to make me wait even longer, maybe its a power thing!
Anyway, one day you will be on the other side of the counter and let's hope you don't have to deal with someone well........like you!
From start to finish the staff couldn't be any better. Excellent customer service. Roast dinner was one of the best I have had. Fresh vegetables and came out piping hot. Cant fault anything if your thinking about coming here then do it. Beautiful outside garden too.
Local pub, not just for local people. They sell Amazing sausage rolls and other bar items. Live music, pizza nights and a decent beer garden.
There is a park nearby and a walk to the river too!
Went in by chance, found a table for us and the meal was very good would go back again.
Pizza 2-4-£15 on Sundays and £15 bottle of wine is the best deal ever! The pizza is amazing.
Pub Sunday roasts don’t get better than this. Finally a roast as good as home.
High quality meats, homemade Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese plenty of gravy and they do not skimp on portion sizes. Highly recommend.
Always a lovely place to visit, staff are always great.
We had a sausage sandwich and a bacon sandwich. Bacon and sausages were lovely, bread a bit thick for my liking.
£16 each for pork dish and a ploughman's. Beer : Landlord, excellent. Service lovely....Esmie? Young female. Accurate use of apostrophes.

Fantastic food, fast service, generous portions and great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. Behind the pub is a footpath along the Trent for a beautiful and romantic post-lunch walk.
Good village pub, food was good nice to relax and enjoy the meal
Fantastic food. Fish and chips went straight into my top 3 I’ve ever tasted !
This pub is another favourite of ours.
The food is great.
We visited on their fish & chip pop up day by Cods Scallops.
It's the best in the UK.
They are also very dog friendly, our Lilly loved it as much as we do.
