I’ve been here a few times in the past without having any real difficulty.I discovered that having been closed for renovation it has reopened and is now a pub carvery .
I called in at lunchtime for a carvery and to see what changes had taken place.
To gain access there is only one entrance and exit from the village or from the roundabout on the ring road .The Disabled parking bays are in front of you ,but they are not well marked .There are 3/4 bays and unfortunately not really the correct size for someone to exit but with a wheelchair it would be difficult..I unloaded from the rear into the driveway and then had to find a dropped kerb .I had to travel on the car park to the main door..It’s not possible to unload onto the pavement as there are tables and chairs along it.
I noticed that there is a smoking shelter to the right and access to that is via the games room .
The main doors open inwards but you have to push them as they are manually operating. The entrance is flat and level .
Inside the premises I had no problems getting around but I did notice that the bar converted to carvery would be a problem with it’s roped off walkway to make orderly queues which I was unable to use .
Another problem I encountered was with the tables .As you look to the right there is a raised platform and large fireplace .There are steps up to the platform so is not wheelchair Accessible.
I also had to change tables as I couldn’t fit my chair under it.After getting another table with a large central leg .This was difficult but useable.
Maybe a look 👀 at suitable tables needed here!!
I had my meal delivered to me and I have no complaints about that. The carvery was hot and the plate loaded, properly cooked and the service was good .
I was unable to check on the toilet facilities as the evening crowd began arriving and I was unable to get past without causing problems.
The wacky warehouse does have a separate entrance as well as a corridor from the main building. No comment on that facility.
The car park itself is of a decent size .
I will have to revisit at a quieter time to conclude my photos and post .Revisited 7/6/19 .It was quieter and the weather foul . Access to disabled toilets and some tables will still be difficult as the roped off area in front of the carvery blocks access when being used . Today I was lucky (see photo).I managed to get into the disabled toilet in my wheelchair and the baby changer was fastened up !! However you can’t turn around in a wheelchair and I had to reverse back out!! PS the carvery was great
Good selection of food on the menu pleasant staff. The food came hot and fresh cooked and very generous portions the food was well cooked and we'll presented. I'm sure the puddings are just as good but I didn't have room left to try one. All in all a good place to eat and inexpensive also has a great play area for the kids. I would recommend this place for a stop and fill up great
Fantastic service from our server, Ryan. Beautiful food the best carvery we’ve ever had. Nice refurbishment too
Tasty food, good portion sizes and friendly staff overall good place to eat
Ridiculously generous amazing food and a decent price. I will be back
Family night out with good food. I had the Carvery which I really enjoyed.
After visiting a different restaurant For a birthday celebration to be left very disheartened by the level of customer service it was absolutely amazing how generous pioneer took us with open arms and made us feel welcome the level of service was outstanding all procedures were in place and been adhered to.
A young lad called Ed was super helpful and very attentive absolute credit to the restaurant And the team.
We then received our food and as some of us ordered carvery and some ordered from the menu it was very well thought out so we all could eat together.
The food was impeccable the carvery was fresh and looked fresh very tasty, the steak was on point and was delicious well done to the chef and kitchen team.
What could of been a rubbish birthday meal turned out for the better and was very pleased with the food, service and hospitality of everyone
Well done to all of you highly recommend eating here.
Well done to
As we were/are regular diners, we were so happy when the doors opened yesterday. As usual, standards were high in every aspect of the pub. Staff friendly, polite and well presented. Tables cleaned immediately after table vacated. Social distancing fabulous and the bar area exceptionally clean and well presented. The food, as usual was fantastic! The staff never stopped. Credit to the manager Erin who made it look like they had never been closed. No panicking, just excellent service.
At this price point I found this place excellent. Very generous portions, well cooked and tasty. It's never going to get a Michelin star but four of us had starters main and sweet with a round of drinks and coffee for £84, not a single complaint or criticism and very efficient staff. Packed with young children but a large adult only section. Would definitely go again.
This is the place to eat if you're gluten intolerant!
Staff went beyond expectations and showed me all the gluten free options that they do. The chef cooked my food seperately and even made me a gluten free gravy! Plenty of choice and it was really heart warming being cared for by all the staff in such a genuine manner.
Highly recommended and will definitely return.
Its a Greene King. Prices are quite a bit higher than spoons but the food is also slightly better quality. Nice and clean. Seating is comfortable. Overall a nice place to have an evening meal. Main complaint is the pricing. Had meals been slightly cheaper I would have no complaints
Went in to watch football and have a meal with the family, we could do both, placed next to the tele so we could see easily and the food was great, especially the carvery, which was fantastic. We felt very safe with all the measures in place, this is the safest environment we have been in from all our family trips out. Keep up the good work guys.
Brilliant as ever here. Staff ate always really pleasant, friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back!
Excellent food well prepared and presented. Lives up to it's name 'Generous' because the portions are just that ! Very reasonable prices. Pint of John Smith £2.49 - must be cheapest in Yorkshire. Large and varied menu for all tastes, and a Kids menu. Visited with family. Will definitely visit again.
After finishing our walk we called at the Generous Pioneer and sat outside on one of the sturdy wooden chairs in the sunshine. A waitress came out and took our drinks order which was brought to our table within a few minutes. We'd ordered cold lagers and they were spot on. We've visited this pub on several occasions and sat outside and have always had good service and good beer. We will certainly continue to do so.
One of the better Greene King Pubs around and caters for a wide variety. Adults only bar section, live football, carvery and good pub menu. They also have a soft play area for the kids and outdoor play area when the weather allows.
