We stayed here for one night with our two dogs this week, as soon as we got to the pub we were made to feel very welcome and everybody was so kind and friendly. We were shown to our room for the night by Charlie who again was very friendly and attentive. The room was lovely - just what we needed for our short break away.
When we came down for dinner it was such a hard choice of what to order as everything on the menu sounded lovely, in the end I decided on a burger and my partner went for fish & chips. Both meals were really well presented and were absolutely delicious! We decided to share a dessert and went for sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce... gorgeous.
Our room for the night was quiet, we didn’t hear a peep from the pub below which was great, especially for our dogs who jump up at the slightest noise.
Breakfast the following morning was lovely and set us up for the day exploring another corner of the Lake District.
The pub was in a great location for us, we spent our first day at Bowness on Windermere and it took us about 35mins to reach the pub from there, the following day we visited Coniston Waters and it only took about 20mins to get there.
We really had a lovely time and would 100% recommend this friendly pub for both food and to stay! We can’t wait to return for another short break!

Just sat in the pub writing this, place is totally spot on. Kids menu fantastic, beer is great and staff are engaged and friendly. Great job.
With two people out of our party of four requiring gluten-free food it was brilliant to see that there was a separate gluten-free menu with fantastic options just as good at the main menu. And the food was fabulous too! Friendly staff, good food, good bar and great ambience. We will be back.
Great food and great staff. Nice little place with lovely rooms. Well worth a visit if ever in the area and definitely worth sampling the food and beer on offer. ��
Myself and three friends are visiting the area for my birthday. We dropped in here for dinner because it’s dog friendly. The staff were excellent - they and the regulars were extremely welcoming. 1 friend is vegan and another veggie - they were perfectly accommodating and their meals were far from boring! Everything was well seasoned. The ale options were perfect. Traditional pub, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
The staff were really friendly and I can definitely recommend the 10oz steak � it was superb. We will return.

I came here for my Birthday in March and had literally the best Burger I have ever had!!!!! The cheese oozed out of the bacon patty and the beef burger was moist. I'm not usually a missive fan of onion rings, but they were fantastic too. I would like to say the rest of my family enjoyed it too, but I was too busy devouring the burger to notice. We only seem to come once or twice a year, but I'm desperate to come back sooner and try it again. Keep up the good work!!! P.S. The IPA was good too
Great atmosphere and very helpful. There is a wide range of food at different price points. They were very accommodating to out vegan requests and we had a great filling. Our serves was very helpful in letting us know about all the options.
The outside garden area was perfect for a few pints afterwards and a good game.
Amazing food, friendly polite service and of course an amazing "real pub".
The Sunday roast was perfect, the beef was so easy to cut and chew. The waiters and waitresses were so kind to us and gave our pup lots of doggy biscuits! The roaring fire, with a pint and Sunday roast was bliss. Thank you so much xx

Highly recommended. Ribs and steak ale pie is top notch. Meals especially the steak ale pie is about good for two . Shame we had to skip pudding as it was difficult enough to get through the main dish . Also when it comes to the female toilets are they are so squeeky clean round the toilet bowls, the corners edgings and it continues to be so in the dining area, I couldn’t fault them .
Warm welcome. Great food..beautiful old building..hence my one little downside. Could smell damp in walls ..where we ate our food was fine but bar area could do with a little intervention. But I appreciate how difficult the work would be to rectify given the age and shape of the interior walls. Would still recommend tho..food was delightful..Best burger I've had in years 😋
Rooms are nice, floor carpet everywhere, beds are comfy, food is really good. we loved the giant jug of coffee and tea for breakfast. Very authentic English style place. Grocery store and coffee shop just right opposite. Free street parking.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here in a group of 8 (kitchen closes lunch at 3pm). As a group we had the roast beef, scampi, bc sausage, chicken burger, buttermilk chicken, salt and pepper chips and sticky toffee pudding. All the food was excellent, the stand outs were the salt and pepper chips, bc sausage and buttermilk chicken. The staff were really great, very professional and efficient. We met the chef and he was really lovely and accommodating considering the lateness of our arrival!
Other fine points about this pub is that they have mini boardgames round the back in baskets near the bathrooms. Connect 4, dominoes, battleship - favourite way to spend time in a pub. Great job, owners! The beer garden in the back looks like a lovely place to sit when the weather's good.
Also, there's a little black door on the wall in the main area; open it and you might get a surprise!
Good selection of food and drinks, helpful and nice staff. Outdoor seating available, no heaters outside or free blankets (you can buy them for £4). Social distancing and Covid regulations are enforced.

We visited on our honeymoon & felt so welcome. The food & hospitality was amazing. They even got us a post wedding card, which was so sweet.
