Popped in for lunch with the kids. It’s more pub than restaurant. It’s on a high street, there is parking at the back but you either need cash change or it’s got the parking app which was a right faff and would be so much better if you could just pay contactless card on the machine. Service in the golden cross was good, and quick. lots of food and drink options as usual in a Wetherspoon. Hot drink refills and the machines seem well maintained, one was not working when we arrived and had already been sorted before we left. The food was all nice, best thing from our table’s order seemed to be the boneless chicken bucket. Only thing putting me off was the menus were all sticky.
A friend & I went to lunch . We Sat at table 16 because it was by the door letting some air in as it was really hot. We ordered food. When it came to our table we had just started eating & there was a horrible strong fume smell
It was a workman doing a job just outside the doorway with spray & paint . My friend suffers with her breathing anyway so we had to move inside the pub . I mentioned it to a staff member & she just apologized. I think there is a more convenient time to to a job like this not at lunch time.
Nice location. Plenty of menu choices but was very hot inside so we sat out in the shade. Much better.
One of my favourite Wetherspoons and always seems busy but never crowded or under-staffed.
A couple of quiet drinks on a busy Friday night shift still saw us get served quite quickly with a mix of age groups in this place I've been coming here for years and the interior is basically the same as it always has been and of course there are lots of stairs to get to the toilets but the staff are good and the kitchen was still serving right up until 11 o'clock when the drunk rush piled in for their cheap drinks
A good town centre pub, nice beer garden at the rear and a a few tables at the front on the high street. Typical of a big chain pub and this one is none the worse for it
Friendly staff and food was OK, bar service was a bit slow but food service swift
Great location and good service too...standard wetherspoons upstairs toilets 😁
Back over from France for a few days. Popped in with my dad on Wednesday for lunch. Had a decent curry and a couple of pints of old peculiar. At £2.27 a pop it was incredibly good value, especially nowadays. Really good pint to boot. The old place never changes which is great. Will be back next I'm over for sure!
The atmosphere is great, the service was speedy, and the staff cheery, the place is fairly clean,
Some people where been to loud by us but not offensive,
We had breakfast the food was OK, better if it had been warmer but it was eatable so that's the main point.
They couldn't do Ham and eggs for breakfast as the till wouldn't let them but finally they found a way to do it, so great customer service.
Would recommend if you after a basic meal to come here, prices are good even after the price rise large breakfast under £6
Another good pub with excellent value food and drink. Lovely staff.
Nice place with pleasant staff and quick service.
Public (paid) parking at rear with easy access to sun terrace and loads of seating available in and out.
Only let down 1 ⭐ for the Wetherspoon chip shortage - not the fault of the Golden Cross, just the chain in general.
Great breakfast and incredible value accompanied with good coffee. Overall a great experience but just a little surreal with people drinking alcohol at 09.10. Really would encourage folks looking for value and a speedy service.
